So I've been working out of town the last month and I'm back home for a couple of weeks to attend a conference and some business meetings. My mom while I was away has been concerned about my meeting attendance (haven't gon in almost a year, except memorial) - even when I was home she was concerned. So today, when we met up for dinner - inevitibly, my meeting attendance came up as a topic of concern.
She's talked to me about it a few months before - and really it is out of motherly concern. I ascribe no negative motivations to her. And after examining the root of why I am not going to meetings now - it came down to this: I'm depressed and I just don't care. So that is what I told her. I think now that I said it, she will not apply any more pressure on me for a while.
At one point, she did ask "well, do you not believe the truth?" - I told her I do believe the truth - and I do here and there. I didn't see any reason to bring up my own doubts or concerns. That would just cause more panic on her end.
so - at the end of it all - I think she won't push it too much, although after a while she will mention it again just so she feels like she did her duty. I think I bought myself some time.
And I have to attribute my success in some part to the cool headedness afforded to me by reading all of your experiences (successes and mistakes). It really helped me to attain my goal of fading while causing as little upset among my family and friends as possible, and maintaing contact with those I love.

Suicide - My column on Freeminds
by Lady Lee inyesterday i spoke of my disfellow-shipping from the jehovahs witnesses.
i had been depressed for many years due to a lifetime of abuse.
as long as i could remember i thought of suicide as the ace up my sleeve; something to do when i thought i could not take it anymore.. after 15 years of marriage to a witness who was emotionally and sexually abusive the thoughts of suicide were on my mind almost constantly.

Thanks, I've talked to a doctor, and they recommended marijuana - so I'm trying that. I was really suicidal last monday, and on Tuesday I started on the marijuana and it calmed my brain right down. So I think it might work. I'll let you know as time goes on how I feel.
I appreciate your concern. :-)

Know anything about "Team National" - multi-level marketing?
by Bonnie_Clyde inclyde and i have a friend who is quite anxious to get us signed up.
it has to do with buying products and services at a discount.
supposedly, a lot of money can be made by getting others involved.

Not all network marketing is bad. Both Donald Trump and Robert Kyrosaki (sp?) endorse it as a way of producing a good cashflow. That said, they are not easy to do. You have to like sales, and be realistic that that is what you are doing. It is not for everyone as they claim, and not everyone will make money. But, if you find a good company and a good product, and work it like a business, you can make money.
I'm in a network marketing company now in addition to my own business that I own, and I am enjoying it.

I actually think about suicide a lot. I know I'd be dead, and I think it would be a lot easier. I'm not in that much pain - I'm just tired.
I've thought this way on and off since I was 16 (about 23 years) - so I figure it is just a matter of bad brain chemistry. I always talk myself out of it, although I think that is getting harder to do since it seems like it always comes back to the same thing.
So, I don't think it is about getting rid of the pain, I think it is about exhaustion and relief.

I'm not sure I agree with the suing McDonald's (although I do believe these companies have to be held accountable) - but the fact is that fast food is addictive, and it is not the same food as if you or I were to grill a hamburger for ourselves at home. There are additives in the meat, the bun, the sauce, the sodas, etc that make that food highly addictive and since the caloric load is dense, of course it causes weight gain.
Did any of you see Supersize Me or Fast Food Nation?
My 2 cents.

If I were you, I would stop responding to those emails and throw them away like your aunt and uncle do with the letters. Write him an email about how you love him as your father, and want a relationship, etc. but that you would like him to stop sending that material, and that you will not respond to them. Only respond to his emails that contain other material.
If he doesn't email you without talking about the WT, then you take the lead and periodically write to see how he is, shoot the breeze, etc. No mention of the WT. I would make it a moot point by not responding to the material. At this point in time, it sounds like he will not change. IF you want a relationship with him, you will need to set the boundary, and stop responding rewarding his behavior with your response. When you engage in debate, he still thinks there is a chance to win you over. IF you stop responding, there is nothing for him to struggle against, and the fight will eventually die off.
Just my 2 cents.

January WT avaliable, GB come out swinging!
by bohm inthe january wt has some good stuff in it.
the basic message is that armageddon is just about to come, god will kill people, and jws will be spared because they use gods name (of all things!

So work hard tomake your marriage mate feel secure. By your words and actions, look for ways to reassure your mate that to you, he or she is themost important person on earth. To the extent that it depends on you, do not let anyone or anything come between you and your mate."
This kind of advice is what allows my crazy ass sister-in-law to keep my brother from talking to his family. Both of them, IMHO, have personality disorders which include intense insecurity and paranoia. These lines in the WT just feed those types of people to be even more insane than they actually are. It would be nice if there was some balanced advice once in a while.

Disassociate or no longer actively associate?
by Mickey mouse inis there a difference?
page 111 of the new elder's manual:.
making known a firm decision to be known no longer as one of jehovah's witnesses.. if the individual is agreeable, the committee should first try to speak with him and provide spiritual assistance.

I read this passage too and wondered about it. Can we get away with just saying "i don't want to disassociate, but I don't want to be actively associated with the congregation?"

WT Society Has to be Forced by Courts to Reveal Hidden Child Abuses
by flipper inin one of the new pieces of information in the new elders manual - section 5:18 - it shows how elders are instructed to keep all judicial committee information private from media or attorneys.
keeping in mind how secretive the wt society has been in hiding child abuse within the jehovah's witnesses notice these instructions to elders now.. it states, " if a member of the media or an attorney representing the accused ( or possibly victims ) contacts the elders , they should not give him any information about the case or verify there is a jc.
rather, they should give the following explanation, " the spiritual and physical welfare of jehovah's witnesses is of paramount concern to the elders, who have been appointed to " shepherd the flock ".

If they are going to claim ecclesiastical privilege - then by default that makes them mandatory reporters of child abuse in a number of states. How do they get around that??
Why doesn't the society inform elders of their legal (to say nothing of their moral) obligation to report??
