So I'm in California on business for 3 months, possibly more. Might just decide to stay. I'm enjoying the sun...
Anyhow - I just went in and got my marijuana card today. Bought a vaporizer - and someone gave me a very fine bag...I'm all set. Just curious how things would shake out when I go back to Oregon/Washington and someone finds out - I'm fading, but I'm technically still in.
And, if you think it will go badly - anyone have any recommendations on how to handle it??
Thanks in advance. :-)

For Those of You who Believe in Heaven...
by dssynergy ini'm a 5th generation jw - and i have to admit a lot of it doesn't make sense to me.. question: if when a person dies, they go to heaven, what is the point?
question: if jesus is a perfect competent ruler, why would he need "assistants"?
discuss.

I get that the idea is to be reunited with Christ and Family. Ok, Yippee!! We all made it - now what? I mean really, we die so we can just hang out? I think the idea of sleeping makes much more sense.

Do You Understand How Elders Think?
by minimus insome here have been treated terribly by elders while in the organization.
some were treated kindly.. why do you think some elders are task masters while others are milder?.
do you think they're all the same no matter how they come across to the "flock"?.

my observation about why some elders are great and others are not is about accomplishment/achievement/ego
Maslow says that we all need to feel achievement - when men do not meet that need outside the congregation through work or other accomplishments, then their "need" for it within the congregation is more desperate and because they are insecure, they tend to wield what power they have with a heavy hand.
The men I have known who are mild, balanced and kind elders usually have other accomplishments and are secure. They were business owners, artists, or wealthy - they had already had an area of accomplishment in their life, and felt respected.
It is the most insecure, emotionally unstable men who seem to be unable to apply Bible principals as they were intended because that would not align with their need to feel better than a "sinful" or "bad" person.
Just my 2 cents.

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

"It Could Happen to You" with Judy Holiday and Jack Lemmon.

Is there 'independent' thinking going on in this congregation?
by EndofMysteries ini was told that a congregation has started taking donations for those who are struggling in this time.
they said that they mentioned how catholics, etc, have salvation army and take up donations and help the poor, but jw's don't have anything like that.
i was wondering if all congregations are starting this, or one is realizing that they haven't been in harmony with the early christians.

I have heard of local congregations doing this.......it is random and based on personal love.
Yeah, more like based on "popularity" - the people who need it the most are often not the ones who get it unless they have some connection.
and the people who get it the "self-sacrificing" (irresponsible) pioneers are given handouts left and right.
Just my 2 cents.

Why dont Jehovah Witness pioneers and baptized publishers like the title 'Ordained Minister?'
by Joliette ini watched a video on this, and an independent filmmaker was asking a brother why dont jehovah's witnesses publishers and pioneers consider themselves to be ordanined ministers.
he went to a scripture and then said that the reason why we do this work, is to help our neighboors learn about the bible and live there lives according to it.
he seemed to distance himself from the title 'ordained minister.

hmmm....as I remember it - you are ordained when you are baptized, and they tell you that. I think they flip flop on it too - claiming ecclesiastical privilege around judicial matters - but not informing elders they are mandatory reporters for issues like child abuse or elder abuse. To my mind, depending on the state you live in - if you are ordained you are a mandatory reporter, and we all have the responsiblity for that.
I am not sure why the WTBS doesn't recognize that and it might not be true in all states in the US - but it should be and it seems like it should be more clear cut than it is and that everyone in the congregation should have a clear understanding of how it works in their particular area.

a christian must make a personal decision - how would this apply to birthdays?

" (september 22, 2003) it left me with some questions.

For those still in- why do you (really) stay, and what would it take for you to leave the org?
by serenitynow! infor the so-called conscious class, those of you who know it's all a disgusting lie, what is the real reason you stay in?
i find it hard to understand how ones who know what the org truly is would continue to be an active jw.
i'm not talking about the "faders"- those with an actual plan to get out as painlessly as possible.

I have to say, that Serenity's opening comments did strike me as very judgmental. Seems to me that one of the complaints that many of us share is that JWs are judgmental. I don't come here to be judged because I'm struggling with something that seems easy for others. I can go back to the KH for that.
So, don't think that because you are "out" and have no ties, that you are any more or less free than the rest of us. The reasons for staying are just as important as the reasons for leaving and there is no cut and dry answer. Even if our situations seem similar, none of us know how it feels for anyone to go through their particular experience or process. We all do it alone.
