"yahweh is a monster and the bible is full of contradictions!".
this is for all atheists, skeptics, believers, anyone to post the biggest contradictions that you believe are found in the bible, and also to tell about why you believe the god of the old testament (yahweh/jehovah) is a "monster" (as so many have said on this website in the past).. so this is a double-themed-thread!.
i want to see if i can provide good answers/solutions using logic and reasoning..
Terry,
Thank you for that big list!

Thank you for all your comments so far!
But come on guys! There are many more "Contradictions" that skeptics always like to bring up!
For example, here is one I remember:
* Isaiah 7:14 was originally a prophecy that was fulfilled in Isaiah's day, so why does Matthew claim it was fulfilled in Jesus?
I will get around to reviewing and attempting to answer all of the ones that have been brought up as soon as possible.
You can even "cheat" and post your favorites from SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com

Lack of belief in an Intelligent Designer for the Universe equals belief in something else causing the Big Bang.
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/11/on-dawkinss-atheism-a-response/.
on dawkinss atheism: a responsemy august 1 essay, philosophy and faith, was primarily addressed to religious believers.
it argued that faith should go hand-in-hand with rational reflection, even though such reflection might well require serious questioning of their faith.
If this is truly Dawkins' argument:
1. If God exists, he must be both the intelligent designer of the universe and a being that explains the universe but is not itself in need of explanation.
2. An intelligent designer of the universe would be a highly complex being.
3. A highly complex being would itself require explanation.
4. Therefore, God cannot be both the intelligent designer of the universe and the ultimate explanation of the universe.
5. Therefore, God does not exist.
It seems very flimsy to me.
First, what is the definition of "complex" that Dawkins is using when he says the "intelligent designer would be a highly complex being"?
Secondly, how does Dawkins know that the Designer would be "highly complex"?
Since scientists say that the physical Universe (space, time, matter) came into existence with the Big Bang, how does anyone know what kind of Being the Designer would be if He does not exist within space, time, or matter?

BurnTheShips,
Excellent thread by the way!
You said:
But what is the evidence for materialism? Presumably, that scientific investigation reveals the existence of nothing except material things. But religious believers will plausibly reply that science is suited to discover only what is material (indeed, the best definition of “material” may be just “the sort of thing that science can discover”). They will also cite our experiences of our own conscious life (thoughts, feelings, desires, etc.) as excellent evidence for the existence of immaterial realities that cannot be fully understood by science.
At this point, the dispute between theists and atheists morphs into one of the most lively (and difficult) of current philosophical debates—that between those who think consciousness is somehow reducible to material brain-states and those who think it is not. This debate is far from settled and at least shows that materialism is not something atheists can simply assert as an established fact. It follows that they have no good basis for treating the existence of God as so improbable that it should be denied unless there is decisive proof for it. This in turn shows that atheists are at best entitled to be agnostics, seriously doubting but not denying the existence of God.
And as a starter for that subject, if anyone is interested in learning more, I highly recommend Victor Reppert's book, "C.S. Lewis's Dangerous Idea." A real thought-provoker of a book!
for atheists and strong agnostics (those who believe that we cannot know about god if he exists):.
i am posting this thread because i think it greatly help myself (and other christian believers) to better understand your beliefs and your viewpoints, if you posted a short (or long) summary of what the reasons and basis are for your not believing that there is a god, or for believing that we cannot know god if he exists.. you can include arguments against god, against the bible, against the christian interpretations of the bible, etc.. you can include scientific evidence that you believe contradicts the bible, or contradicts the existence of a god/creator/designer.. christians believers: you are welcome to post counter-arguments, or summaries for why you believe in god/creator/designer or why you believe in the bible or the christian interpretations of the bible.. i also thought it might be good to link to another lively thread we had on this website a while back: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/175688/1/god-morals-and-atheists.
when you include your reasons for why you don't believe in god or the bible, or why you do believe in god or the bible, please include at least a little bit of the evidence (or link to the evidence) that backs up your statement.. for example, it doesn't do much good to claim "evolution is false" and just leave it at that, or on the other hand, to say "the bible is full of scientific errors" and just leave it at that.. here are two threads i posted where i explained the reasons why i personally believe in god and the bible:.
Onemore,
Thank you, and I appreciate the point you are trying to make.

Deputy Dog,
Thank you for your comments/questions.
The onus is on us (the believers) to present an apologetic (give a defense) which includes asking the unbelievers to examine the physical Universe (and its origin, the Big Bang), in order to get them to think about HOW this Universe came to be, and HOW it came to be so finely tuned. (1st Peter 3:15; Colossians 4:5-6; Romans 10:14)
I would say a good apologetic should also definitely include the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of prophecies, and the historical accuracy of the Bible.

White Dove,
Anything that you believe takes "belief" or "faith."
If you believe that the God of the Bible does not exist, then you have a "belief."
You are putting "faith" or "trust" in the belief that this God does not exist, and that you will not be accountable to Him.
Also, for those who believe that no Intelligent Designer exists, their "beliefs" must include that the Big Bang (an effect) either (1) had no cause, or (2) was caused by something non-physical, yet non-intelligent, or (3) some sort of theory that the Universe has always existed and has always been going through cycles of different Big Bangs.
