  Outsiders of JWN

  does anyone feel threatened by outsiders of the jw world?

  does it matter if anyone never has been a jw?.

  what about those who have family members who are one, but not they themselves?

  People who are not JWs or XJWs provide a welcome perspective on issues, often giving views that have not been coloured by WTS doctrine and conditioning. For that reason their insights are often welcome. In addition some who have not been part of the organisation themselves can have their lives badly affected by those still in espeacially family members and it is wholely appropriate that they come here for support and help.

  However bear in mind that many on this board have suffered abuse from an organisation over years and sometimes decades. This is why they are quick to squash people who come across as self important, or slightly dodgey. Being accused of multi personalities this week I fully appreciate how disconcerting that can be. What I take from it is that there is a great deal of support on this board, people make mistakes and misjudge on occasion, but they are usually well intentioned and it is a wish never to be taken for a fool again and never to let others be abused that prompts their actions.

  It is only predatory posters and real trolls that need to be wary on this board.

  i heard a witness say this.

  sorry if my question seems stupid, but i'm not a jw and i don't know any better.

  i have the feeling that this phrase means that you have to carefully weight your every word and action so the worldlies won't have a bad opinion of the wts?.

  Because Jws are supposed to wear their religon as a badge then whatever they do reflects on their faith. Because of this people judge the religon by the actions of it's followers and thus it can bring Jehovah's name into disrepute.

  As JWs you live in a world of fear and guilt worrying that whatever you do you are reflecting badly on Jehovah. It is madness and part of the control.

  i have an e-friend who is trying to leave quietly, but his wife is still buying the wts explanations.

  he asked me this earlier today, wondering if anyone here has heard this chestnut, and if they'd be able to clarify.

  Apparently Ray Franz is responsible for the 1975 teaching too according to one of my JW friends. It seems he is being used as a useful scapegoat for all the problem doctrines. Ray may have been on the writing committee but not the service committee or translation department so how he could be responsible beats me.

  Unfortunately some people will cling to any excuse to justify why they still follow the religon.

  I do voluntary work at schools, initially it was to help my children and to make sure I was readily available to teachers if they had questions. Later I did it because it was great fun and I love working in the school.

  The reporting of field service time

  were any of you really bothered/still bothered by the practice of field service reporting?.

  there was an old post on here that got me thinking how the practice got started.. instead of simply being a tool to monitor the progress of the faith, or to see if the work was done "throughout the earth", it appears to me that it was just a tool used to keep the presses rolling and to see how much literature to produce - along with controlling the rank and file.

  the average jw gives it no thought, its just another "blessing" from the organization when you hear the monthly reports, etc.. the organization is so statistics-driven that they make jesus out to be a ceo with people who need to meet their sales quotas.i'm sure he really wouldnt care if peter and andrew got 20 hours one month and john got 25. wait, maybe thats why john was "beloved" .

  It is a control mechanism. The need to report equals the need to be seen to be doing service. No reporting no one would do it, where would be the need?

  In order to justify the presses and the branch offices there has to be a visible preaching work. To justify charitable status there has to be a proof of bible education programme. The counting is a way of making money controlling the R&F and justifying tax breaks. It doesn't need to be accurate it just needs to be there.

  Every week I ask myself why didn't I see it? Now it is clear and so controlling. This bit really annoyed me.

  a respectable father who shows kind interest in an orphaned youth and wishes to adopt him as a member of his own family. The father is known to be a good man. Still, before accepting the youth as his son, the man wants the boy to make a promise. So the man says, "Before I accept you as a son, I need to know that you will love and respect me as your father.” Only if the youth is willing to make a solemn promise will the man admit him into his family. Is that not reasonable?

  No it is not reasonable, not in the slightest. You take a child into the home in the hope that by showing them love and respect they can grow and thrive. You don't make them promise to love you and respect you.

  Is it my imagination or has the writing in the Watchtower deteriorated over the last few months?

  my sister is an ultra jw married to an elder.

  my non jw grandfather just past away and my sister has said for the last 15 years that she wanted nothing to do with that side of my family including me and especially my grandfather.

  If there is a will that excludes your sister but includes your other relatives then go with it. You can always set up a private agreement between yourselves to split the money equally between those that cared for him espeacially if he wrote one of his carers out of his last will. If he made a will you should declare it and a solicitor should have a copy of it anyway. In UK wills get registered I don't know about US.

  Not going with the will in the first place could get you in trouble later.

  Squabbling over money in an estate does no one any credit. If she has a legal entitlement to the money it is extremely unlikely she will refuse to take it, she will probably see it as god blessing her. She didn't have to maintain contact with this wicked man and yet Jehovah saw to it that she benefited when he died.

  Rather than worrying about whether she deserves the money she is going to inherit, plan what you will do with your share. Who knows she may forget to leave a will, living forever and all that and you may get the money back later.
