Most of my male friends are shared with my husband. I think it is ok to have friends of the opposite sex provided your partner knows about them. I wouldn't go out on my own with a male friend but that was mainly due to the fact that my male friends were current JWs and that would not be ok in the org.

The Gradual Change From Worshiping Jehovah To The Worship Of the Governing Body
by frankiespeakin ini first began my misadventures with jehovah's witnesses in 1972 as a youth(18 years old) and was baptised in that same year.
i was young inexperienced and they caught me at a low point when i was weak and looking for god to solve problems.
being raised as a catholic and going to all the religious indoctrination up to the point of confirmation, i guess you could say i was indoctrinated from birth to believe a certain way which left me vulnerable to the jw propaganda.. fast foreword to the time of my departure in 2001 february.. for a couple of years (late 90s) before i left i started noticing out right lies in the wt publications about their history and the luster that these magazines used to have started to fade rapidly also around that time i really began to notice the gobs and gobs of praise they were bestowing on the organization and the representative members of the so called faithful & discrete slave(gb).

Outlaw you are so right. They'll probably change the name too. After all the R&F stopped being witnesses for God a long time ago.

It is so hard for people who haven't experienced the influence of the organisation to fully understand the way it works. His mum does know and understands what a big deal this is and the significance of her sons visit. When she said that the organisation stole her son it is so true. He had no control of his life. I know from personal experience you don't hate difellowshiped ones you grieve because you don't have association with them but you are conditioned to view them as people who are not contactable.
You can never make up the lost years but the power of love between a mother and her son was still there as strong as ever you did a good thing. Well done you.

More evidence that WTS is hurting for $$$ - change to special pioneer mileage reimbursement
by sir82 inper a letter sent to all special pioneers in the us:.
previously the society reimbursed the special pioneers at a flat rate of x cents per mile, to cover the cost of gasoline and maintenance on their cars.
if i recall correctly, it may even have been the standard irs allowable deduction, something like 40-50 cents per mile.. beginning in 2010, the society will reimburse for mileage only, and strictly follow a mathematical formula, using:.

I'm sure they could save money putting GB members in economy for their air travel. Sending literature via PDFs as was suggested on another thread and stopping biscuits at Bethel meetings. Also make local congregations responsible for paying Special Pioneer expenses. It seems that those that give most to the society receive the least amount of appreciation. It is bullying remotely, hopefully iy will be the final straw for many.

Song Book changes - the 'real' reason behind them - EYE OPENING
by EndofMysteries init's very interesting comparing things that are removed.
for one, new world order and new world, new order, all being eliminated from everything.
just research nwo, "new world order", etc, to see.

When I started looking through the book I was horrified. People are singing about an organisation and obdiance to it rather than appreciation for God and Jesus. JWs are being pushed further away from the God they worship. At the few meetings I attend I would have a real problem singing these songs they feel wrong and are self serving.
On the plus side people may start to notice since the message is hardly subtle. Most people have the old lyrics in their heads so the changes will spring off the page.
I am so disappointed in the organisation but glad to be free of it's influence. They disgust me.

the RV just became a DNC!!!!
by highdose insome of you may remember me posting a few days ago that my shop had become some jw's magazine route.
well today the staff who was supposed to man the shop has called in sick, which meant that i had to go in and open up.
who should i find waiting for me on the door step with a big beaming self righteous grin on his face but a jw!

As far as I recall elders are supposed to make a call on DNCs once a year to see if they still feel the same so you may have a chance to let rip with all the things you would like to say and didn't. You could mention denial of 607 and 1914, and remember the witness lied to you, if he was mistaken then what is he doing on the doors he obviously doesn't know his core beliefs.
Good for you I am surprised he put up such a fight but perhaps he had high hopes. The fact he didn't notice you were a different person speaks volumes.

To Ex-JWs: Do You Regret Learning it Was a Lie?
by leavingwt inthis question was inspired by a question on another thread.
to the ex-jw community here,.
do any of you regret learning that wt is not god's organization?
-

No. It has been painful and confusing I no longer have a sense of certainty about things but a lie is still a lie. It was also a dangerous lie I made poor choices because of it and may have made life threatening ones in the future. My children were marginalised and made to feel isolated from their peer group and missed out on so many things. This was not a benevolent dreamworld we lived in but a cult with all the downsides. I am grateful to the board and my husband for making me break through the conditioning.

What is an elder?
by acolytes ini have concluded that elders are people who take it as their right to torture any baptised member of the congregation who will not conform to their standards.. why do i say this?.
basically i think they see anyone who does not live up to their standards as a threat in which they risk exposure to fealings they would rather die than face.
(the irony they pride themselfs in thinking they are in the "truth").

In my experience elders seem to fall into two camps. There are those that seek the position due to thwarted ambition these are the dangerous ones. There are others who genuinely believe who shepherd the flock of God with love they trust the organisation implicitly. These ones are sometimes shocked by what they learn or they park everything in the wait on Jehovah file.
The ambitious superfine apostles have little love for the flock and have the loudest voice.
It was only when I started psychology and could see the way humans automatically obey those in authority that I understood why good people can be conditioned to behave in an irrational way. It also explains why when a group of people is presented with the same set of information why only a few are prepared to buck the trend. This explains why so many elders see the policy files and why so few are prepared to give up the position and see the truth about the organisation. (see Milgram experiment and Stamford Prison experiment)
I don't hate all the elders in our congregation most cannot see the rotten core of the cult it is a real shame if their talents could be properly employed who knows what they might have achieved in life.

I can relate to this and feel for you. It is a travesty that the society keeps the best of us ignorant turning us into busy fools. Live life as Maria would wish this is the best tribute to a sincere friend.
