My Dad Died Today
by cantleave inhe has been ill for some time, but it was still unexpected.
he was never a jw and i didn't really have a close relationship with him, since he remarried after my parents divorced.
i reunited with him in the mid 90's after over 10 years of not seeing him.. .

Thank you all for the kind words I think the news is only just sinking in. Your warm wishes certainly brought the tears back but sometimes it is good to let your emotions out.
The next few days will be emotional for us all but it is good to know there is somewhere to come for comfort.
Thank you again it means a lot.

A Visit From The Reformed Village Strumpet
by snowbird inafter a nervous breakdown, i stopped attending meetings in 2005.. i still live in the same place, have the same phone #, and work at the same job.
after about two visits by the elders to "encourage" me, i have been pretty much left alone.
my college daughter is still very much a zealous jw, in fact she was on the circuit assembly program 2 weeks ago.. well, this rabid jw, who once caused a scandal by her most un-jw-like conduct, (i refer to her as a reformed strumped) is calling on the woman who lives across from me.

It's funny how some people become self appointed policemen for the org. I think you were brilliant but she is likely to bring reinforcements on any future visits.
It's amazing some of the rubbish they come up with to justify people leaving the cult. It's never a problem with the organisation it has to be a problem with you or something in your life.

Does Anyone Like the New Songbook?
by metatron ini'll try not to be 'knee-jerk' critical about this subject but do any witnesses like the new songbook?
ok, they got rid of some awful lyrics about molesting bees - and downsized references to the ever redundant jesus - but the music itself sounds like forced piano practice.
trying to sing these slow, pedantic tunes is awkward and painful.. i haven't seen any witness e-mails about this 'wonderful provision from jehovah' and his faithful hacks, so i wonder if the rank and file aren't enthused either.

Bad, bad, bad. The music is bland and lyrics appalling. They have managed to destroy the only bearable bit of the meeting.

Welcome CofC. I was in a similar position to your wife a while ago. Be patient and don't try to rush her the evidence is there but you need to use it wisely.
I wish you well.

We can give gifts all year long
by bluecanary inthis is the famous witness saying in defense of the way they don't give gifts on holidays.
of course, even though we all said it, no one in my family did this.
none of my friends' families did this.

Some families did seem to have plenty of stuff, up to date games consoles and kids stuff so there was obviously money being spent within the family. The problem came with sharing the wealth. It was rare for people to give spontaneous gifts outside the family units. I do feel for people with no family connections within the hall as the chances of them being given a present are non existent.
The witnesses condemn worldly people for giving gifts at set times of year but in all honesty the witnesses prove that without the reminder of an occasion then the gifts dry up.
We have just spent a satisfactory easter with only one family bust up, chocolate eggs given and received, one easter egg hunt and a new rabbit and hutch for my daughter. It was a reminder of the fun of an occasion and the joy of giving.

What you feel is not uncommon. If you are brought into the organistion by a parent it is hard to break free as it is the world you are taught to accept. Use the board to express your anxieties there is a wealth of experience here. You have already increased your number of potential friends welcome.

In order to recover emotionally we need to acknowledge that the organisation let us down and lied to us. By exposing the reality behind the lie we are free to move on.
