Well done that is an awesome achievement. Just shows how important it is to allow our talents to blossom. As a group we have so much potential it is truly good news to see someone achieving such good things.

I'm not trying to brag, but being an EXJW is awesome!!! Status Update-
by Coffee House Girl inhello jwn!
i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.
i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

I did it !!!!
by snare&racket in7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.
i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.
i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

Question to atheists: if there is no creator/god---
by prologos inif you are sure there is no god, do you then believe that we,our minds, are the highest intelligence?

one way to imitate jehovah is to adopt his viewpoint regarding matters.

This is all about control, don't talk to those who have doubts or those in the organisation that aren't totally conditioned. It is fear of discovery that prompts this not fear of contamination.

Sledgehammer subtlety: The insidious reworking of Micah 6:8
by rory-ks inmicah 6:8 might be - or have been - a favourite verse of many.
the verse used to read:.
"he has told you, o earthling man, what is good.

how can cherish loyalty be a better translation of love kindness they are not remotely similar. However this reflects the harsher and harder environment that JWs worship in. This is where obedience and control is more important than love and compassion. So glad to be out.

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

I live in outlying territory which is worked every 18 months to 2 years so I rarely see them in my road. That being said I have heard of one cart being set up in an adjacent village and have seen one in Fareham once. I haven't seen people out on the door to door work for a long time now nor have I seen the local elder doing his calls on a Saturday morning which was a regular sight as I went out walking the dog.
It is just my impression that they are less active in this area than they have been. But weekend service was always poorly attended here and there is only 1 midweek service arrangement over this side of the territory so it is unsurprising that I see less of them. After all I don't drive round the territory on a Wednesday morning hunting witnesses.

Anglican school phobia
by Frazzled UBM inafter a long and frustrating houe search in london we finally found a place that fitted all our requirements and my wife seemed happy with and i was successful in the bidding process and had our offer accepted even though it wasn't the highest beacuse we can exchange contracts quickly and now we have lawyers working on exchanging contracts soon.
so everything is going swimmingly and then my wife demands that we go and look at a house being offered by the same agent we used to make the offer on the house we are buying.
i am like wtf, if we ask the agent to see another property they will tell the vendors for the place we are buying and they will revoke acceptance of our offer and we will be back to square one.

As a parent I would look at the Ofsted report for the school as the key deciding factor not it's denomination. In the UK Cof E schools may hold religious assemblies and plays with christian themes but generally the focus is on ethics and principles.
My children both attended Cof E schools and although there were some activities they could not participate in the school was very helpful about offering alternatives. I worked closely with the school to ensure I was available to sit with my children if needed and found that this helped to ease communication whilst we were still witnesses.
If the school is 2 doors away how fantastic is that, no having to deal with parking and waiting, no mad rush in the morning to account for journey times. As a mum that would be awesome I spend an average of 1hour per day on the school run.

Instead of each publisher attending 3 days of ca and special assemblies per year they now attend 2. This means a reduction in assembly hall usage of one third. This means that more circuits can be crammed into fewer halls freeing up real-estate.
In the past we were told that the programme was vital and beneficial. We were told to listen carefully because this was life saving information. The information took 4 days, then 3 days then just 2. What important information is no longer important? As they end is so close why are people less prepared and supported? When you eliminate the watchtower study, baptism talk, public talk and didn't we do well talk and introductory talk, there isn't a lot of time for much else. If they include the theocratic ministry school as well then you might as well stay home, there will be nothing special.

Do you pray over your meals? If so why? If not, when did you stop and why?
by BU2B into answer my question, no i do not pray over meals anymore exept for when i am with other jws i do a 15 second head bow for appearances sake.
i just came to the realization god had nothing to do with whether i ate or not.
many believers are starving right now whilst many non-believers are eating like kings.. also why should god give me food while he lets little children in dprk concentration camps starve to death.
