  Sitting on the Fence....to believe or not to believe, that is my dilemma.

  i was raised by a "strong" jw single mother.

  she was very very strict but i loved her then and always will.

  after the death of my mother i waivered back and forth with my spirituality only because this was my first chance of "freedom" and being in the world to do things that i never really got to do.

  What is personally bothersome to me is their claim that they own God and Jesus. Once you make an honest and fair examination of the JW history, it really makes this claim break into a million pieces.

  Their arrogance about the rest of humanity being evil, corrupt, disgusting, alienated from God, worshippers of Satan (by default simply because they are in a different church) is simply ridiculous. Once you find out the WT is just as corrupt by their UN association and their CONTINUED protection of child molesters then you simply cannot accept their claim of ownership on Jesus and God.

  initially i suppose i did.

  i know i over studied the articles for the wt study because i thought my enthusiasm as a study would make me more accepted.

  but after awhile i didnt read the awakes at all except for a cursory glance because i was giving them to people.

  "Do not become unevenly yoked"--weird comment at meeting

  i heard a really bizarre comment at one of the recent meetings.

  someone, in quoting this scripture, of course went with the usual doctrine of not marrying/dating someone who is not a jw.

  but one woman took it even further, by saying that this applied even to people inside the congregation who 'weren't spiritual enough' or didn't have some magnificent spiritual goals in life.

  Another control mechanism. How many times have you heard it before? They are always doing that, saying there is bad association in the congo.

  Those who are uber JW's are virtually locked out of associating with anyone. Only if your are a pio/elder/MAYBE an MS will you get an invite to associate with an uber JW. Then if you do have the "privilege" of hanging with them for a few hours, you will want to hang yourself 15 minutes in as they brag about their theocratic resume.

  They hammer this into young ones a lot to try to keep them single and employed with WT Inc. Not that its nearly impossible for some sister to get married, now she has to hold some poor guy to the ridiculous standard of being a gainfully employed pioneeer/elder/RBC volunteer/good speaker/spiritually minded man. Anything less and you don't qualify as being 'spiritual enough'

  How much longer can WBTS survive before going out of business?

  Easily. They will be around for hundreds of years....Overlapping generation teaching ya know. Maybe not as big as they are now, but they will stick around for a long time.

  your fellow jw's mates that are df'd for drug abuse, drunkeness, and wild sex orgies refuse to talk to you because you are bad association.. you know you are a jw apostate when....... you come by to visit your jw parents, they open the door and say they are not interested.. you know you are a jw apostate when........ the wts takes your contribution for the wwf but refuses to send you a thank you letter.. you know you are a jw apostate when....... you can buy tupperware at a yard sale and not worry it has a demon preserved inside.. you know you are a jw apostate when........ you can visit jwn and not feel guillty for weeks at a time.

  you know you are a jw apostate when......... the girls at the kh find you more mysterious and sexy now that your df'd.

  Adam wasn't a ROBOT----so damn what??

  adam was never a baby cradled in his loving mother's arms.

  nobody sang a lullabye to him or tickled him just to make him smile.. adam didn't grow up with brothers and sisters and a playground or a teddy bear or sitting around a family dinner with loving conversations.. adam wasn't given by god the things we take for granted as minimum requirements to normalize us.. this is what makes the genesis account so cold and unloving on god's side of the argument.. adam had no friends.. adam never played a game with companions or sat around a campfire and sang a song.. adam never grew up with music in his ears.. there was no art or literature, poetry or encouragement.. whatever humanity is---wasn't there for him to shape him.. .

  his was a cold, empty, loveless existence until eve appeared.. eve had no mother, sisters or family life as a child either.. eve had never been cuddled by her mother and lovingly encouraged to be or do anything.. adam and eve were raw humanity with nobody to say to them "i love you.".

  All good points....so what if Adam had not eaten the fruit?

  What if all of his offspring were also "obedient" for 10,000 years?

  But then some humans finally decide to make their own decisions. To actually think....to figure out things for themselves....gasp....even begin to "SIN" then what Jehovah?

  Weekly executions for sinners? Gotta maintain a "clean earth." But what about free will? What about choice?

  The big problem with JW theology and "paradise earth" is that there are only two choices. Either there is no free will (Jehovah programs everyone's brain to only worship him with no ability to "sin") or there is free will, and then in their vision of paradise, people will eventually sin. I mean you can only pet lions and pandas for a few million years before you get bored and move on to something more interesting.

  the jehovah's witness are notorious for ranting about their favourite religion to pick on and that is the catholic church.

  my question is, if they are false.

  prophets, etc... then what they said about the catholic church should be suspect also.

  What it means is millions are mentally enslaved to a corporation that is only interested in what corporations are around for- money! Imagine doing EVERYTHING your employer asked, no questions asked, for no pay.

  And don't worry about the devil, he is about as real as Tinkerbell, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy.

  td made an interesting point in a anther thread that jw attracts unhappy people.

  i agree with him but i have another theory, maybe its not true but there must be an element to it.. independent adaptive thinking.

  i can cook, infact if i blow my own trumpet i can cook really well!

  The psychological factors of the JW mind are fascinating. I agree that you are pretty much right on. You are right it is a recipe religion. Go to meeting, go in service, study WT books and magazine = Receive everlasting life. The trick is the GB can change the recipe at any time! Anytime they say you have to believe this instead of that, everyone changes their personal everlasting life recipe.

  For most born ins, it is tremendous strain on your mental health. Why else would 70% say "no thanks" once they are of age? Here is this so called perfect recipe for everlasting life with no worries whatsoever, yet so many are able to figure out that its a bunch of pie in the sky bull....
