  Another Self-Serving F&DS Article

  i don't know why i keep reading this crap.

  the april 15, 2011 kool-aid edition has an article entitled: do you discern the evidence of gods guidance?

  the article starts out with how the isrealites followed the "pillar of cloud and fire" which was evidence of god's guidance until they got to the "promised land.

  It seems in the last couple years that the focus is on repeatedly telling JWs that they need to be obedient to the FDS. There is not much mention of following Jesus or the Bible.

  That is because if they followed Jesus they would be doing so many things that the WT does not endorse. A few that come to mind:

  1. Feeding and clothing the poor and needy instead of trying to hand them a Watchtower

  2. Forgiving those that sin instead of shunning them in their moment of need. (Not judging others as Jesus said not to do)

  3. Following the golden rule

  4. Partaking at the Memorial which Jesus commanded

  I'm sure there are dozens of others. Jesus just isn't important to "the slave" In fact, he gets in the way most of the time.

  24:45.. the comment highlights that because jesus "did not say that there would be a multitude of slaves scattered throughout the various sects of christendom.

  cattails I agree this is the one "pillar" that holds up all of the rest of the rules. I think it was Peter Gregerson who pointed it out from his study of JW doctrine back in the 70's that basically everything that the WT says is all dependent on whether they really are the faithful slave.

  If they are, then they can make all of the rules they want and JWs should loyally follow. If they are not then it allows the mind to finally consider all of the other options. You can battle JWs all day long on doctines like holidays, birthdays, 144k and the like and it won't affect them a bit. But if there is a "magic bullet" of any kind it is to get them to see this scripture for what it really is, only then will the rest fall into place eventually.

  Big Love versus Big Armageddon

  i've been enjoying "big love" on hbo for the past few years.

  (for those who don't know, it's about the life of a mormon polygamist and his family in utah, usa.).

  seems like the mormons, even without officially sanctioning polygamy, can go toe-to-toe with the jws in the wackiness department.. so why does mormonism, as a religious movement, seem more acceptable (than jws) to the mainstream, and thus more successful?.

  Mormons make an effort to at least be relevant in society. They hold public office, educate their members, allow holiday celebrations and use the media to some extent in advertising their beliefs.

  JW leadership is like an isolationist regime. The only time you hear about JWs in the media is when something bad happens. Their no part of the world mentality just makes them irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

  Now when you get down to brass tacks and look at the beliefs of each, both are wacky.

  It shows there is more than one way to skin a cat (or run a cult)

  i know i m a simple mind, but if 3 jws study with a jw-child or someone else for an hour, they ll all report there own time, which will add up to 3 hours, right?

  but the real netto time spent for the study is obviously 1 hour, no matter how many jws took part.

  am i seeing a mathimatical fault?.

  Good point pirata, say 50 billion (estimate of all who have ever lived) come alive again for the 1000 year reign, and maybe 1/3rd decide that they don't want to be there at the end of that exercise. That means Jehovahs got to kill another 17 billion. That will make Armageddon look like a walk in the park.

  starting on pg.22 in the jan.15th it deals with " coping with discouragement ".

  it seems lots of jw's are under intense stress these days ( can you blame them ?

  didn't armageddon suppose to start in the mideast?
