My girlfriend had one put in her door...can't remember the exact wording on it!! Would indeed be weird as hell as an outsider to attend this convention. Talk about your WTF moment.

2016 convention. Was there a leaflet / public invitation campaign this year?
by stuckinarut2 injust wondering if there was the usual hyped up leaflet distribution campaign this year or not?.
as the convention seems more focussed on an "internal" message to keep witnesses loyal, did they want the public there?.
and what would first time attenders really think if they heard the convention content?

One of my great personal embarrassments was believing in a global flood.

Why JW's Rave So Much About Conventions
by freemindfade in"it was so beautiful, we are truly blessed!
now, they also plaster these affirmations all over social media, "this is the best life", “so blessed”, “best convention”.. why the gushing?
have you ever heard anyone say, “mmmm it was ok”?

Its also one of the few things they are ALLOWED to brag about.
The average JW can't post about their birthday party, their child's soccer game, or their Halloween costume. No bragging about their promotion at work, their hobby that takes up a lot of time away from WT activity, or their Christmas lights.
So you get timelines of Meh-morial, convention and in-service selfies. Yuk.

We live a simple life
by hoser inthis is a video on jw broadcasting to quit your full time career, sell your house and belongings and start a window washing career.
i agree with some of what is presented but not all.
it is good to live within your means as presented in this video.

It all works fine for witnesses in their 20s and 30s, who are in good health. Run your own little cleaning business, with the added benefit of keeping a lot of that earned cash off of the governments radar. I'm sure we all knew plenty of JWs who under reported income.
But all good things come to an end. Exactly as you state Hoser, once you hit your 40s things start to break. No retirement accounts, no home ownership and you are at the mercy of your housing market which could really put you in a bind. And of course come retirement time all that unreported income back in the day means lower social security checks here in the USA.
Truly the best way of life!!

Not shunning even after the regional
by poopie inso i have been told that a bro i know that is df is being greeted even after the convention on shunning he finds it refreshing that witnesses can use their own conscience seeing that shunning is not a law but a principle that only a privilege that applies only to antichrist some still do not believe in shunning even after that talk i happened to be at a regional on sat gb member went off subject and started to expane why a patent must shun the child nobody clapped ..

Copy/Paste for anyone interested:
17 What about the propriety of brothers wearing a beard? The Mosaic Law required men to wear a beard. However, Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, nor are they obliged to observe it. (Lev. 19:27; 21:5;Gal. 3:24, 25) In some cultures, a neatly trimmed beard may be acceptable and respectable, and it may not detract at all from the Kingdom message. In fact, some appointed brothers have beards. Even so, some brothers might decide not to wear a beard. (1 Cor. 8:9,13; 10:32) In other cultures or localities, beards are not the custom and are not considered acceptable for Christian ministers. In fact, having one may hinder a brother from bringing glory to God by his dress and grooming and his being irreprehensible.—Rom. 15:1-3;1 Tim. 3:2, 7.
So, in reality, its gonna be up to the local God squad to decide if you are allowed to wear your beard and get so called privileges.

Your story is a little confusing...were you not free to marry, I'm talking JW version (BARF)
Why talk to them? Just fade away and decide for yourself what to do.

Nobody at work knows what JWs believe
by Athanasius inrecently susie, one of my co-workers mentioned that her husband's family were all jws.
the family converted after susie's husband left home, so he never joined the jws, nor does he intend to.
anyway another co-worker asked her: "what do the jws believe?".

Yep. Its usually three things. No holidays. No birthdays. And occasionally its no blood.
Other than that, nobody knows anything about this silly little American cult.

Introduction - Any Believers?
by Believer ini’ve been reading it for a few of years off and on, but have been a little too ... maybe ... timid to join.
i left the watchtower organization almost 20 years ago but never abandoned my faith and belief in god.
i knew the gb/organization didn’t represent god, so when i lost my faith in them, i managed to keep my faith in an all wise benevolent creator.

Is it reasonable to conclude rape and sex slaves if God required a month before marrying the person? A month is a long time to hold off on rape.
Wow. Just wow.
