In my hall when Obama was elected everyone said "No matter the good intentions a Politician may have we must remember that only God's Kingdom can solve man's problems." So it's clear to see that even though lip service is given to neutrality that there are still leanings way or the other. Then they try to mix this with bible prophecy and as my family says "general concern for how people are treated," give me a break! I don't mind having a political discussion but it's very frustrating when they won't even admit the discussion is about politics.

Don't Feel Like I Have Much In Common With Anyone I Know
by JW_Rogue inwent out with my family and all they talked about was how terrible trump is and how he'll surely bring the great tribulation.
then they started going on about people supporting trump showing that america is becoming racist.
i don't consider myself a trump supporter but i disagreed that that was the reason why he won.

Post war paranoia - or - The Truth Will Make You Nuts
by undercover incheck out this wacko bs from the 1943 'the truth shall make you free' book:.
page 342-343in the postwar "new order" jerusalem's modern counterpart, "christendom," will surround herself with armies of an international police force for her continued world domination.
the roman catholic hierarchy will attempt to act as the.

Never knew that we believed such a ludicrous notion. The Catholic Church controlling a vast international army? Someone was smoking the good stuff that day.

I also felt it hypocritical that they would say these things and still consider themselves "politically neutral", what a joke! My own personal belief is that all of this will settle down and life will go on. Right now doesn't seem like anyone wants to hear that.

The popularity fad of home-schooling!
by stuckinarut2 ini know this has been discussed over the years on this forum, but i just had to post this again!.
it seems that the popular fad amongst the "spiritual" ones in the local circuits is to home school their children instead of sending them to school.. now to clarify, we are in a very nice area of semi rural australia .
one with very community minded, and strong family values.

I was home schooled from a young age and I think the reason for it is that the child will not be put under pressure to do "worldly things" at school. My mom also thought public schools weren't good enough at teaching kids how to read and write. I think what happens is that these kids are in even more of a bubble than normal JW kids. As a kid I never really knew any kids that weren't JWs, so to me everything seemed perfectly normal. I imagine if I had gone to a regular school I may have been exposed to differing views and not gotten baptized at such a young age.
I must say though that I notice some people think a good education can't be attained through home schooling. This isn't the case there are many alternative schools were most of the work is done at home but teachers and tutors are available when needed. It also depends on how much time the parents devote to it. I went to an alternative school but was still able to go to a four year university. The real problem is you don't learn how to make any friends. Everybody you know is from this little small group of JW kids, those are your friends almost by default.

Watchtower and Emoji's - your thoughts
by Tallon inon the jw.org website, the watchtower is sending out a strong warning with regard to emoji's & flirting.. my personal view is that the org is now trying to micro-manage just about every aspect of people's lives!.

Unreal, I think teens know more about emojis than WT. Anyhow, what is so damn bad about a little flirting? They're teenagers it is going to happen.

"Historical" Announcement This Week?
by headisspinning inmy daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?

The announcement that I believe is being discussed is that there will be many mergers to better use the KHs. There was even a talk about doing as you are told and accepting changes. Even though they talked about congs merging they never really talked about selling KHs even though that will be the outcome. Also, the may broadcast was never mentioned. LOL

"Casting Lots", How Was It Considered Acceptable?
by JW_Rogue inthe jws strongly condemn any form of gambling or decision making that invokes luck or divination.
however, no where in the bible is the "casting of lots" which basically amounted to gambling specifically condemned.
also, many jws don't realize that jewish priests (levites) were instructed to make decisions using the urim and thummin which many scholars argue was a divination practice similar to casting lots..
