The role of the Home Bible Study arrangement in JW brainwashing
by MrMonroe ini've just started reading "year of doom, 1975: the inside story of jehovah's witnesses" by english author j.c. stevenson.
it was published in 1967 as basically a memoir of his years in the dubs, including time as a pioneer, and an explanation of the methods used by them to make the organisation grow.. it's not the best "insider" book i've written, but there is a section i've uploaded below that makes some interesting points about the home bible study procedure and why it is so effective at turning interested people into baptism candidates.
reading through this, i see myself back in the mid-80s sitting there getting led, week by week, into the trap.. this section is from chapter 2, "the seed is watered" in which he explains the typical process following a few return visits.. .

JC question: Do you accept the FDS as God's organization?
by MrMonroe inmy wife and i had stopped going to meetings in april; in december of that year we travelled interstate and stayed with the witness couple who had "brought me into the truth".
we had already told them we'd quit meetings and there was a certain tension in the air for the first couple of days until sunday morning, when, over a breakfast that eventually lasted several hours, they began to interrogate us about why we had left.
had we been stumbled?

Once the Org has its claws in you ...
by MrMonroe inalmost three years after quitting meetings, and receiving only the most minimal, perfunctory interest from one elder (one visit six months later and no questions or expressions of interest from the congo members we thought were our "friends") i received a phone call last night from that elder, demanding an explanation for a recent action of mine.
i told him i had no interest in discussing my actions with him and that it was strange that after three years of silence only now has he contacted me for a "chat", because he has taken offence at something.
(so much for looking for the lost sheep ... remember the nov 15, 2008 wt study articles, ""help those who stray from the flock?

Gay "Knocking" director Joel Engardio writes again on shunning by JW family members
by MrMonroe ina previous thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/200592/2/joel-p-engardios-article-on-jws-washington-post has covered an earlier story joel engardio wrote on gays and witnesses.. in the washington post (nov 7, 2010) he writes again of how his jw mother grieved for him "as if i had died" when she learned he was gay.
engardio notes:.
"among jehovah's witnesses there is no easy exit for the adolescent who skillfully parrots theology at age 10 or 12 and decides in his late teens or early twenties that the religion isn't for him.

Did you ever voice disagreement at the Watchtower study?
by MrMonroe init was only after leaving that i realised just how absurd and inaccurate many of the statements in the wt study really are.
the tag-team application of "this generation" is a classic example.. i'm interested to know if anyone who was in "good standing" actually did speak up at a meeting and challenge what's in the study.
what was the reaction?.
