These are tragic stories...I too had a good friend in Northern Ireland who was violently abused by her husband....i begged her to leave him. She had 2 small girls and they were friends with my 2. I moved abroad and when I got back I was told she had moved back to England. I was so happy for her. The elders in her cong. up the north were totally unhelpful. this bro was so popular I don't think they really believed her. I was so disgusted, having been and still being in a divided home...and going through emotional abuse, i just hated how they treated her. I thought they would have wanted to kill this brother as he was an active JW, but this opened my eyes to their behaviour and started to sow seeds of doubt. Jesus nor Jehovah would tolerate for a second such treatment of the weaker vessel.

who knew a wife who was in a domestic violence situation while a jw
by looloo ini knew a girl who got married at 19 despite objections from the elders , they got disfellowshipped and reinstated after 18 months , he chose her clothes and would not allow her any money , he insisted on doing the food shopping with her , he hit her if tea was not on the table when he returned from work , he broke her nose once when she was holding her 2 year old child , when she approached the elders , onesaid to her "what are you complaining about ,he hasnt broke every bone in your body , there are sisters who put up with much worse !
if a jw man is not supposed to be violent why would they not give him a telling off ?.

Just read Crisis of Conscience - Malawi/Mexico double standard
by jambon1 inall i can say is - wow.
what a bunch of absolutely hypocritical, double tongued shithouses the governing body really are.. reading the letters to & from the different branches/governing body on 'alternative service' made me so angry.. an organisation that is utterly rotten from the top down.
these men have blood on their hands.. filth!.

Good posts all...Iam reading the book now. I passed the ch. about the Malawi atrocities and nearly wept. I was still making up my mind but this book solidified all of the things I think are wrong, and prove it to NOT be Jeh's org. Those letters from the brother who did all the research on 1914 really annoyed me. Their replies were awful and indignant, not loving. They do not care about truth or decency, or any witnesses as individuals, just power and control. Ray Franz was not high in my estimation coming into the 'truth' and not 'till recently. His book is candid, honest, insightful, loving, and a good worl of literature. All should read it. A copy should be sent to every witness and them made read it. He is a light amid darkness and the WTS are the true apostates.

Newbie here, need some input
by FollowerOfSet ini wanted to introduce myself, and need some advice.. i dissassociated myself back in 1995. haven't had much of anything to do with my family since then.
they are all witnesses, and very dedicated to their beliefs.
so after 15 years without a simple howdy from them, now they are coming around again and being very nice, but it reminds me of when people would have parts in the ministry school...it seems rehearsed and fake.

hey there.....My biological family have shunned me for 20 years now, but not for religious reasons. I married 'beneath me'...anyway, I am of the opinion that if they came running back I would forgive them and run into their arms but they have hurt me so much that I think I would forgive them but still keep a distance. twice shy....
they have shown no love for you as your bio family for so long, and they can't take that back. I would be really wary and cautious. i would ask them directly their reasons for this sudden action, as they are going against their religion by contacting you. Something is up. You have a right to be paranoid. It's called instinct. use it well.

Elders who step down for little or no reason?
by Truthexplorer inwithin the past decade, two elders stepped down in my old congregation.
actually one was taken off for commiting adultery and therefore reproved, but the other one simply stepped down for no apparent reason.
also, in another congregation i used to attend for a short time, i was shocked to hear of another elder stepping down, again for no apparent reason.. i am wondering if there has been an increase in the number of elders stepping down for no obvious reason and to see if this is a worrying trend causing alarm for the society.. i am thinking the past 10 years, particularly with the internet being available to so many people around the world today; but have you experienced many elders stepping down in your congregation or past congregation?

TE...a really nice elder in my 'old' cong stepped down last year...incidentally, a sister of many years asked him a question about the paradise which he couldn't answer not long before this happened.. He stepped down shortly afterward. his family are alot quieter too. He gave no reason, and did nothing wrong, it was his choice. there is always a reason, but none may be evident. Only the other elders and friends are told a reason why, only he knows himself the real truth why.

An easy way to demolish 1914
by sd-7 ini've read so many different discussions about 587 b.c.[e.
i often wondered if those issues were debatable; either way, i found the discussions of the historical data to be far too technical for the average person to absorb.
if i may be so bold, i consider myself as slightly above average, in my more arrogant moments.

sd7 I like your post..you have made a good point...the bible is so straight forward and the WTBTS have made it so complicated, it's sad.

Is the Yellowstone caldera safe? You decide...
by Nathan Natas infrom: http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/12890.
scientists on alert after hundreds of earthquakes daily rattle yellowstone national park.
over the course of the past two weeks, more than one-hundred mostly small earthquakes per day, on average, have shaken up a remote area of yellowstone national park in wyoming.

I have to say, after finishing my uni studies on earthquakes and volcanoes, the supervolcano in Yellowstone really worried me. Not really if but when it does blow, it will have devastating effects on the world, not just the USA.. As the largest volcano in the world, and although dormant, geologists are really worried about it. this was clear during my studies. The activity has not surprised me, and the data I have collated from the USGS shows huge changes. There is no point in panicking though as it probably will not blow in our lifetime, although who can be sure with a ticking time bomb.....sleep well!

Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?
by doublelife ini grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.
it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.
i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

Hey guys (and gals)...brings back too many nights of nightmares...and as an adult too! I was TERRIFIED of someone hurting my girls... My daughter A had many sleepless nights worrying about being separated from me during the G Trib. It's things horror movies are made of... There's still an 80 yr old bro in my old hall terrified if he can't get his meds during it....should he have to worry about such things?? How can the GB justify terrifying the bejeebes out of so many people??

Engineer: "This was not an earthquake disaster"
by betterdaze inthe audience at last tuesdays uc berkeley lecture given by eduardo fierro, one of the first u.s. earthquake engineers to visit post-quake haiti, collectively cringed as fierro showed slide after slide of haphazard columns, brittle frames, and slipshod rods and joints.
this was not an earthquake disaster, fierro said.
fierro, a peruvian native who has worked around the pacific rim, arrived in haiti within two days of the earthquake to investigate the destruction caused to the countrys built environment.

Thank you for this... I have studied geology specialising in earthquakes and volcanoes and it is amazing to see how so much activity need not cause so much devestation! Humans like to cut corners and look at the consequences! All needless tragedy.

Why 'Apostates' Are All The More Remarkable
by metatron ini was watching an interview with hank paulson ( big time former government official who pushed all the humongous bailouts of banks into being).. he was the ultimate diplomat referring to bush ( who couldn't even put together a coherent sentence) as a skilled politician who understood the dangers involved, pelosi as "cooperative" ( yeah, sure), and others in complimentary terms.. it all resembles the final scenes of the novel "catch-22", in which the main character (yossarian) is told that he can be free if he agrees to love and speak well about his superiors.. this is the normal response: you lie thru your teeth about the ignorant, venial thugs who ordered you around, even after you are free of them because you probably are never totally free from them!
you kissed a$$ when you were around them and so it's not difficult to continue doing it now.. "opposing", being an "apostate" may require a greater sense of self sacrifice than the 'righteous' behavior that preceeded it!
why not just lie and say, 'the governing body are great guys", 'bethel service is the closest thing to paradise", 'this really is the "truth'".. metatron.

i have read all of the above and agree with nearly all remarks.. I am adding a link a friend sent that helped her sort our her brain and emotions. I would have been very wary of apostates before, and now, if my thoughts were known in the cong., would be considered one. i am battling with this concept as mind control is very insideous and hard to let go of. Let me know what you think of this site. I know my path is going to be difficult and I don't kind saying right now, at the moment, I think periodically was I better off in ignorance? In my heart I know I hate lies, but I knew where I was and who I was. Now, I son't know what there is and it kills me at times. I want to know that something better is around the corner, I just can't see it right now.
