Im a mormon

im a mormon now and have been one for the last 3 months.

at first i really liked it but now i am starting to have 2nd thoughts, i grew up as a jehovahs witness and was disfellowshiped at 19 i really started to look for a new church in july of this year.

i started out in a christian church which i really liked but i didnt understand the jesus as god thing/trinity.

It does seem as though you DID go from one cult right to another. I have a book of Mormon and have read some of it and it just didn't seem to jive. There were many inconsistencies in my opinion and it just didn't follow through or make a lot of sense. It seemed as though I was reading parts of scriptures and unfinished parables.

Facinating though how Joseph Smith stated that because he fasted so often he was often weak and apparently that is why he felt ill working on his father's farm and then while heading back home from the fields, he stumbled and had the vision of the angel Moroni who gave him the sacred golden plates that only he and six[? I think] witnesses attest to seeing as Satan wanted to destroy them [the golden, scripture plates I mean].

Like the Koran, the book of Mormon does state that every word from the Holy Scripures [old and new testament] are true and contain no falsehoods, but then both books state that Christ Jesus was not God [or Emanuel, which means God among us], but Jesus was more of a sign from God. Just a god, but not the God.

What ever your beliefs are is your business of course, but since you're posting and asking, the old [IS 9;6] and new [John 1;1] testaments clearly state that Jesus is God......Sorry...why did I have to add that?!?

A Question About Satan (For Those Who Believe In The Bible)

when the bible mentions satan do you believe it's speaking of a paticular indivuial or is the term satan used for multiple people?

to be more specific, do believe the satan that tempted eve, told david to take a census, tested job, and tempted jesus are the same person or 4 different people?.

Phili Ponos, I think that you're in the minority because Christians are in the minority. People believe in Satan [as a being and as a spirit] because of the church and the holy bible. Maybe other people in this forum believe in Satan but are working through the why[?].

LS is right that there is no specific mentioning of Satan in pre-exile OT, but he's there still, isn't he. If not his direct hand, certainly his spirit. Cain and Able? Didn't Cain have an accusing spirit when he killed his brother?

When Jesus told Peter, 'get behind me Satan', was he addressing the fallen angel or an accusing spirit? Is it possible that there are two meanings for Satan? I think so as Lucifer BECAME Satan, not the other way around, right?

Other fallen angels are mentioned by name in the scriptures. In catholic bibles the book of Tobit is an accepted OT book. The angel Raphael announces that HE is one of the seven who stands before the Lord after he chases down and bounds the demon Asmodeus. Short and interesting story if you've never read it.That story touches on LS's points about Lililth in so much that the demon lusts after the girl and kills seven of her suiters before the hero [Tobit, the younger] shows up. The problem with Lililth and the scriptures is that, well, she's just not there. Never mentioned, and the fact that some sects of Judiasm practice paganism proves nothing. Plenty of Christian sects twist and distort many truths and still call themselves Christians. They're not, so it means nothing.

As a Christian, I do not look to Madonna for instruction in Kabbalah to help with my Christianity. I look to people who know the truth and share it. Proof that is confirmed in the scriptures, as opposed to contridiction.

Haven't checked out AHS, but this year we started watching the Walking dead. It's amazing that a zombie thing could go on for seasons. Looking forward to tonites new one [last week's episode will run first for those who want to be updated]

Really Larsinger38? Satan was Michael's wife? The bible specifies that angels are neither male nor female and they do not have spouses. As for Jesus being Michael, you could look to what the scriptures say and I quote from the NWT for your benefit. I personally like how the WTS uses capital letters in their 'version'.

IS 9; 6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Why would God be racist?

in the old testament, can you think of any conceivable reason that an all knowing all powerful god might logically select one small desert tribe in the desert to be his "chosen" people, and leave all the other races of the world out?

isn't that a bit racist?

i mean, he did not choose chinese people, or african people, he specifically chose the jews, and at least as far as i've seen in the narrative, he pretty much lets them treat everyone else however they like.. .

Interesting post and segway to Jews in particular. It has me thinking of a question that I heard a couple of weeks ago. I never thought of this question before it was asked, but since it was asked, I have been struggling with the reality of the answer.

Question- Is the racism [anti-semitism] against the Jews from a supernatural source?

Before you flippantly dismiss the notion that it is a possiblity, find in history anywhere a circumstance of racism that has lasted thousands of years in thousands of different lands. I know of only one race [or religion]. Discuss if interested.

Why Arguments and Debates on the Trinity are a Waste of Time

this isn't meant to be a shit stirring topic, just a thought or two, a memory really, from my jw days.

because i know i have more experience then most on debating the veracity of the trinity..... there are two camps, people of faith, and people of math.. people of faith will always be more convinced of the trinity every day, because for the most part, the teachers of the trinity are very up front about the fact that it is a mystery.. so the more you point out how illogical it is, the more a mystery the trinity becomes, and thus, it also becomes more real.

Why Arguments and Debates on the Trinity are a Waste of Time?

Easy answer. Because those here who deny the trinity will not even acknowledge the scriptural proofs that totally contridict THEIR beliefs. And rather than trying to reason away the scriptural proofs, they simply ignore them and hope that they go away. When these proofs are not addressed, these people think that they can just continue to lie to themselves. And they do with other like minded, brain washed burnouts.

There are many here who claim to know the WTS is full of crap, but at least they got the trinity thing right. What crap.

What scriptural truths am I talking about? Well there are too many for me to list here, but I give some examples of scriptures that make these anti trinitarians throw other scriptures up and never, ever address the very valid scriptures in question.

IE Isaih 9;6 Young's Literal Translation
For a Child hath been born to us, A Son hath been given to us, And the princely power is on his shoulder, And He doth call his name Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.

Now some moron will write "see, it says mighty god, not almighty god' Let me answer that reply now. This states explcitly that Jesus is God.

Another common bs argument is that Jesus never claimed to be God. Well scripture states the opposite doesn't it?

ie John 5;18 Young's Literal Translation
because of this, then, were the Jews seeking the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but he also called God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

Notice the bible states that Jesus was making himself equal to God, not they 'thought' he was making himself equal to God. Another one is

ie John 10;33 Young's Literal Translation
The Jews answered him, saying, 'For a good work we do not stone thee, but for evil speaking, and because thou, being a man, dost make thyself God.'

Pretty plain to see that the Jews with Jesus knew what he was saying, but these WTS 'bible students' can't understand the plain truth written explicitly and clearly.

An answer to the 1+1+1=3 thing could be explained like this - past+present+future=time. Sure you can have a 'block' of time by removing any one or two of the past, present or future, but you would not have the fullness of time, would you?

Don't want to leave too long of a post, but I agree, debates with this crowd is one sided.

there were some, but such letters were few and far between.

in the moscow archives, however, eberle found a file containing a number of letters sent to hitler by jehovah's witnesses..protesting against the conduct of the nazis.

I've had this discussion with my koolaid drinking JW elder brother. I showed him the copy of the yearbook from 1933 and how the watchtower still, consistantly lies about what happened. He still speaks of the JWs showing a force of political neutrality. What a brain washed simpleton.
