And if I did get someone home, I would hand it over to my dad after my introduction, and I would hardly ever go back. Mostly I just pretended I was giving away lots of stuff on my time sheets at the end of the month.<<<

  I was "out" already when I heard about this one. My first comment to my Mom when she was talking about it was , "So the IRS giving them problems or something?"

  She looked a little sheepish and said that she wondered about that, too.

  Had I been "in" I probably would have seen through it but been relieved. I hated asking for money at the doors.

  Jewel-of the Purple Toe Class-I broke my little toe two days ago and am hobbling about...

  but now she's gone ...... from breast cancer a couple of years ago.

  we prayed and prayed to jehovah in jesus' name: the "ask anything in my name" jesus.

  we asked jehovah, not to cure her miraculously, because that's what people pray for in tent revival meetings.

  So, so sorry for your loss. Others have said what I feel, but I want to add that what you have physically set up (picture, candle) can be thought of in lots of ways. We, as a nation, have a perpetual flame on John Kennedy's grave and no one sees this as a pagan shrine. It is thought of as a way to honor a memory and preserve it. Think of what you have set up this way. You aren't worshipping her, but it helps you deal with your loss and helps you with your memories. Be kind to yourself. She isn't here to help you through this part, which is, in many ways, the most difficult. I don't think she would be angry with you, but compassionate and honored by your continued expression of love for her.

  How Do You Discipline YOUR Kids?

  curious... how do you discipline your children and why?

  spank or not to spank?

  are your kids brats (and be honest here.).

  We don't spank-I can count on one hand the times I've tried this with any one of the three kids-including spanking their hands as toddlers. We're pretty consistent and they respect us. So far, if we say "NO" it's been respected. We're thought of as pretty strict parents, I think. I always say that our advantage is that they got their strength of mind ("stubborness" has such negative connotations!) from us, but we've had more practice. I also say that, though we'll sometimes decide family issues by vote, when it comes right down to it our family isn't a democracy but a benevolent dual-dictatorship. Plus, we're pretty careful to NEVER undercut each other-I back him up even if I would have done something differently and vice versa.

  Things that are important to us-

  Teaching them proper social behavior: how to respond when introduced to another person-adult or child (one of my pet peeves-so many kids don't seem to know how to deal with this situation without being rude), not interrupting when conversing (tough one for them and me), dealing with people of various ages courteously, behavior in a variety of public places (libraries, restaurants, movie theaters, etc.)

  Integrity-unfortunately, this one has to be modeled, not lectured. Keeps us on our toes because we know they are always watching. It's MUCH harder to justify bad behavior to your child than to yourself. This is one way kids make parents better people.

  Work Ethic-see Integrity above.

  Are they perfect? Nope. We have sibling rivalries, attempts to "weasel" out of assigned chores, impetuousness, occasional attempts at back-talk etc. But I'm never ashamed of them in public and, no, they're not brats

  JWs and Stronger Marriages?

  a bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.

  i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.

  we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.

  Of the group of five of us who grew up in "the truth" together, 3 are divorced. I'm still married, but that's because I married a "worldly" guy. I'm pretty sure that if I had married a good Witness boy I would be divorced, dead, or insane by now...

  Actually, matter does have weight, volume and density. Light however does not because it is not matter-it's energy.
