  Just dropped my Mom off at the Kingdom Hall...

  we live about half an hour from the kingdom hall.

  we had some snow last night and the roads are a little "iffy".

  i didn't want my 83 yo mother driving on her own so i brought her in and dropped her off.

  i haven't been to a meeting (other than some cousins' weddings) for well over twenty years.

  i've always wondered what the fds was going to do with the "generations" thing once pretty much everybody who had been alive in 1914 is gone.

  i get that they've come up with some "new light" about this topic, but when i ask my mom (who's still in) i only get "well, the new understanding is complicated...".

  Is anybody else both fascinated and creeped out...

  ...by the flds brouhaha down in texas?

  obviously the doctrine is way different, but there are so many similarities: the haunted look in so many eyes, the oppressively patriarchy, the lack of feeling, the use of fear and separation for control, the whole everyone-else-is-evil mentality.

  ok-so here's the situation in brief--note: i was a member of this congregation for all of my teen years, but haven't been to a meeting in years.... this takes place in a smallish city in iowa.

  there are two congregations-north and south units.

  both have nice, paid-for king.

  my great-grandparents were witnesses before there were witnesses.
