  first off i would like to welcome you here- as you can see we have a varied cross section of folks here in the community center.. i would like to commend you for at least being brave enough to come to this site and setup an account and post for more than 4- post as well as read amazing very long life story.. would you be willing to share with us what moved you to come to this site in view of what the org teaches on this issue of being in forums like this>.

  Hi JT,

  The question you put to "Happy Man" is one that you've put before other dubs who wander onto this site and post/lurk. So far, I've never seen a dub give a straight answer...it seems like such a basic, straight-forward question - I have also wondered too how a JW can reconcile being here when the very org they defend tells them THIS IS OFF LIMITS.

  Of course, we have witnessed the leaders of this org rationalize stuff like for example the UN thing, so I guess it's not a stretch for individual dubs to rationalize any kind of activity that is patently hypocritical...

  Aw yes, the unwritten rule. These are really are, IMHO, the Society's most useful tool. Take shunning, for example...

  Never will you see in Society publications a DIRECT instruction for JWs to shun family members who have been d'fed, yet shunning still remains the greatest source of leverage that HEADQUARTERS uses to keep the R&F in line. They know that the stauncher the JW is, the more likely that the "Bible-trained" conscience will compell the loyal dub to take the initiative and show the d'fed member the "error of his ways"...

  the problem with fundamentalist is that they think that their salvation is at stake either they act to change the world or face the consequences.

  they think that their sky god will punish them for another persons actions.. freedom of thought.

  freedom to live as one sees fit.

  On the other side of the coin, much effort is put forth to deny a higher power to rid themselves of any responsibility of moral worth...........

  Most fundies would agree with that. However, one has to assume that the belief in the existence of some higher diety is necessary in order for a human being to appreciate the concept of morality. I'm not sure that one can assume that.

  Hi Island Woman,

  Friends help friends, brothers help brothers. May I ask, what are the Arab Governments of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait doing to help their own? Are they sending military help, are they openly supporting the Palestinian cause? Are they FIGHTING for the Palestinians? Where are their armies? Why are their armies not helping the Palestinians?

  Please, I am longing for an answer on this issue.

  My guess would be, that for all intents and purposes, that the Arab community of nations realizes that they would also have to fight the US military if they were to lend military support to the Palestinians in their struggles with Israel.

  likely, you did not refuse to submit to the treatment simply to avoid the anticipated pain.

  A lot of times I did not want to spank him but I felt that others would think that I was not training him properly if I did not.

  I had a conversation some time ago with my sister about how our mothers' main reason for "discipline" always seemed to be "What will the REST OF THE CONGREGATION think about us?"...

  Indeed, how important it is for J-dub parents to put on this display of [i]Theocratic diligence[/], lest someone should say "MY child would never behave like that..."

  I guess it's all about putting on a show for the bros...

  my handle: mindchild comes from computer scientist and futurist dr. hans moravec: who wrote the book, the future of robot and human intelligence which is a book about when we will be able to construct machines capable of human intelligence and raises the possibility of uploading ourselves (every thought we ever had) into an android body much superior to the human ones we have now.

  i entertain the hope that not only will i live long enough to see this happen, i will transfer myself (the complete essence of what is me) into a body of my own choosing and become immortal if i so choose.

  Hi Mindchild,

  I picked "Jigrigger" due to my favorite pastime which is jigging for perch or pickerel. I often use a pickerel rig when the water is too rough for "jigging".

  As I understand it, NGO's though not part of the UN, are affiliated with the UN through the DPI arm of the UN. Additionally, in order to have NGO status, the applicant must agree to uphold and promote the ideals and interests of the UN. This is what makes the WTBTS so hypocritical, considering what's contained in WTS publications concerning the UN
