a brief summary: (not summery!).

november 2028: the prime minister has announced that all but emergency travel is forbidden due to the dangers of the very cold weather, as predicted by imperial college london computer models.

everyone except emergency service staff and food retailers must work from home.. to protect people, the government will provide all citizens with a newly designed duffel coat, which when tested on 43 people in clinical trials during a 5 day period, proved completely safe and effective for maintaining body heat.. december 2028: conspiracy theorists are now spreading misinformation on the internet which claim that asbestos fibers are integrated into the duffel coat material, causing many people to reject the offer of a free duffel coat.. january 2029: the government has now issued new directives under the 2028 brass monkey weather act which require that all government & nhs employees must wear the protective duffel coat, or face being dismissed.

May 2029: Conspiracy theorists that have mistakenly accused government officials of purchasing shares in duffle coat manufacturing firms and textile companies have been publicly shamed by government funded media as the racist and misogynistic fringe minority that they really are.

why is this arrangement beneficial?

The little people always suffer the most. CEOs and religious fraudsters have the gift of making people feel great while they are getting screwed.

The watchtower can buy up and renovate properties for literally nothing. This is how it goes:

1. Watchtower land man finds distressed property with a great upside potential.

2. Watchtower has a governing body update about the “need” in that area where the above mentioned property is located.

3. Old ladies donate their dead husbands money to the watchtower thinking somehow it will make up for all the meetings he missed while working shift work at a factory.

4. Watchtower purchases property.

5. Watchtower puts out call for volunteer construction workers who willingly do renovations as they can get hour credits for their pioneering service. Swinging a hammer is easier than knocking on doors.

6. Watchtower has another governing body update as they need more funds ~~to pay out a pedophile victim~~ for the renovations. Mom’s donate their grocery money and kids go without ice cream.

7. Luxury property is finally finished. Watchtower has a retired circuit overseer maintain the yard for potential viewings by buyers.

8. Translation office is sold as per “Jehovah’s direction” and a different language group has a “need”.

It isn’t hard to make money in the real estate business if your labour, land, real estate agent, maintenance and capital gains taxes are all free and it really makes the little people feel good about themselves to be part of something bigger.

Could this be a JW media venture?

i'm wondering if this is another step in wt branching out into attempting to profit through media production.

last year they already registered their hollywood style company "jw studios" as an llc, unlike their other corporations which are non-profit.. ( more information on that here: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5740817149853696/jw-studios-llc-commercial-purposes ).

now, i see this video of a wt spokesman.

It looks like legal learning studio is offering CLE credits for legal professionals so they can maintain their licence to practice law. It looks like the watchtower or one of their subsidiaries is an accredited university.

I call bullshit on the COVID death stats of Jws. They are so used to padding numbers on their service reports and the guy calculating the COVID fatalities didn’t get the memo to not do it this time.

Alberta health services got caught fudging COVID numbers so I wouldn’t put it past the jws.

Maybe they are getting rid of door to door. Gasoline is expensive and it takes away from donations.

going on 2+ years of no public ministry.

can't imagine anyone is really enjoying letter writing still or that it's remotely effective.

i'm a little shocked that we haven't resumed yet but i guess that's what happens when the org is run by a bunch of old people (ie high risk for covid) and a bunch of other sheltered germaphobes.

Door to door sales were the primary way of selling products in the 19th and up to mid 20th century, The Watchtower is only 75 years outdated in its methods.

Vacuum cleaners, encyclopedias, Homeopathic medicine, soap, brushes, make up and Watchtower and Awake magazines were all sold by travelling salesman. In the 1950’s cars became more reliable and roads became better so people could travel to central locations to pick up what they needed. In addition to this the 1970’s saw an increase of women in the workforce so there weren’t as many people at home during the day and the door to door sales method died out. The final nail in the coffin was the internet. You can get whatever you need delivered right to your door with the click of a mouse.

The watchtower organization are extremely late to the game.

You are right though about the busy work. If you keep members so busy they don’t have time to think, they probably won’t leave the organization
