  What Do You Do Besides JWD?

  with so many new ones, and not so new ones, its kinda hard to get to know people.

  i'm just wondering, what do you like to do besides post on the jwd discussion board?.

  me, during the spring - fall months like my yard & gardening.

  I try to stay employed... and in my spare time (like right now), I am testing a new Lighting idea.

  The lamp I am developing will be battery powered, and recharged by a solar panel.

  I have already run a test using my Amber colored LED panel, and the battery lasted for about 24 hours prior to going flat.

  I am striving to get about 7 to 8 hours... although 12 would be cool, so 24 hours is well within the goal.

  The current LED - is white in color (actually, it has a light blue hue to it), and I just started its' battery test. I am thinking that it will only last about 7 or 8 hours before the battery goes flat. (Kinduv an eerie whiteish light in the room right now...)

  The ultimate goal? A battery powered/solar recharged lighting system for my dome home.

  i've always "enjoyed"(?

  ) walking thru cemeteries, especially older ones, when i travel.

  i guess that's because in the western us we really don't have very many old cemeteries, and i find it an interesting window on history and lives.. in lexington, there was a grave that had the headstone marked with "i told you i was sick" (at least, that's what we heard on a local tv news story while we lived there).

  Johnny Cash and John Ritter have died

  this so bums me out.

  i'm not a big johnny cash fan, but he was a cornerstone for the country music industry.. john ritter was a funny guy, i wiil always remember three's company.. they will both be missed.

  Yes, both will be missed.

  Johnny Cash was looking pretty bad - and I am not too surprised.

  John Ritter - this was a surprise! He was still young and active! His type of humor was 'one of a kind' - and I will miss seeing him on TV.

  i think that 2 x jw getting together must make a good match

  because they both have probrably been thru similar experiences..and can share whatever spirituality is left..i know id prolly prefer an xjw guy to someone in the world :).

  While it might seem that ideally, exJWs would be a good match (for the obvious reasons already stated), it does not mean that ex-JWs are the only ones who have belonged to a religion that was fanatical in their practices.

  I have recently talked to a few gals who are non-JWs. True - some do not understand the insanity of the religion... but one - whose parents converted to Baptist - and were in the Bible Belt - were ALSO fanatical, and she has described many of her experiences growing up that... if you replaced the word 'Baptist' with 'Jehovah's Witness', you couldn't tell the difference. For example, when it came to her getting her records and tapes 'burned' or thrown away, because they were unsuitable music. There were other experiences, too - very similar to what a JW would experience.

  Sooooo... we need to just try to do our best in living our lives. If we find someone that we are attracted to - then it should not really matter that they do not fully comprehend our 'prior life' experiences.

  Personally, I just try to not twitch too much when the conversations turn to religious topics. *grin*

  What should replace twin towers?...

  ...a memorial to the victims or thriving business offices?.

  would building offices show a disrespect for the victims or would it be a good idea in the sense that it shows the usa are picking up where they left off and not being deterred by the terrorists?.

  My idea on a design for the towers...

  Start out with a set of two towers - like they had before... then about 20 or so stories up have them merge into ONE tower that goes on up to the sky!

  The motto can read something like, "Divided we fall, united we stand."

  Terrorism needs to be stopped. *sigh*

  Foiled conversion attempt!

  someone will be very disappointed tomorrow morning!

  i am home on maternity leave right now, and this has given me the opportunity to meet people in our neighborhood that i might never have come in contact with otherwise.

  a few weeks ago, i started chatting with a mother who was out for a walk with her toddler.

  Adam and Eve---Mere Myth ?

  even when we dismiss the bible,belief in an original paradise that was lost because of sin was wide-spread among the ancient babylonians,assyrians, egyptians,and others.common to many accounts was a tree of life the fruit of which would confer eternal life on those partaking of it.so mankind remembera that something tragic happened in eden.. scientists acknowledge that the human race is a single family with a common origin.. so,bible or not,could there be any truth,proof,about this event,is it possible to have eternal life on earth or, are the stories among the ancients only myths?.

  Myth - yes, it makes a good story - right up there with Aesop.

  Of course... (he says slowly...) there is ALWAYS a smidgen of truth in all fairy tales.

  Applying for a job, did you tell interviewers that you were a JW ???

  when going for a interview, did you tell the interviewer that you were a jw , and couldn't work meeting nights.

  did you think being theocratic would help you get the job ???.

  or were you the type to take the job, so you could miss the meetings.

  That was a long time ago... these days, anything more than a week - I can't remember.

  I _do_ remember that after working for almost 1 year - my first job - they had one of them dang 1-week 'International' assemblies... (was it 1975?)

  (YES! You read correctly - 1-week! 1 bloody week of... oh. Sorry. I need to finish my post.)

  Anyway... I asked for that week off (and then some), and was told that if anyone got off - it would be someone with seniority - so I tendered my 2-weeks notice.

  Actually - it turned out for the best - as I was able to eventually get another job in radio - which eventually led to my getting an on-air gig... well, that's another story.

  Are you a self reliant person?

  now here is where i stick my foot in my mouth, although i have done that enough in my life.

  i would like to think of myself as a free thinker and look at everything objectively.

  the point i would like to bring up here and discuss with others is, even though we claim or most of us claim to be ex jdubs, we still have not gotten away from the codependent mind of a dub.

  There is a lot of truth to this... me, personally - I do not feel the need to belong to any organized 'religion'... but knew a person who had left the JWs, and then went to another religious-type organization - because they felt that the words spoken at the meetings were needed to reassure them that they were okay.

  If folks need that - more power to them. Not me. I would rather spend my time at the local coffee shop reading and studying. Computer-related stuff.

  Roots

  in speaking with some people the other day i realized i have no roots....no long term frienships....no family connections.

  i went to a party and almost all of the people there knew each other from high school or college or family friends.

  i felt so out of place.

  Been there - done that - bought the T-Shirt... and that was when I was a JW!

  After I left... I was still alone - not mingling with JWs - and not mingling with non-JWs... so I sorta isolated myself.

  Now - I am expanding outwards. I have two sweet non-JW friends (Jow and Sheri), that have 'adopted' me. They know my history as a JW - and accept me for who I am now.

  They invite me over occassionally for celebrations... Father's Day (their kids made me a Father's Day card - I kept it and treasure it), Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Halloween, etc.

  I am slowly trying to re-integrate into society - and become as 'normal' as I choose to become.

  I even had a workmate invite me over to her birthday bash that she had at her house. It coincided with a Spurs basketball game, so I went - and had fun. She had lots of folks over there - so I just kinda melted into the woodwork and observed.

  I think that it is important to find a few non-JW people like these that one can 'pal' with as it will help to try to learn these bloody celebrations that I secretly always wanted to be a part of as a JW.

  But yeah... other than that, I sit alone most of the time. Been doing it for many years - even as a JW. It sucks don't it?

  P.S. Xena - iffn ya ever get down this way - to San Antonio - look me up. I know that last time, I was not to... ummm hospitable - but I am trying to improve my social skillset. Mebbe we can meet somewhere for coffee.
