  ok, to the point, who got the best deal in the marriage agreement, you or your spouse?

  my answer is, me.

  my wife got ripped off.. no need for details when replying.

  Yes, that came later, two years into the marriage, when our daughter was born.

  What I am talking about is the "I want to quit my job and stay home" speech I got - prior to our getting married. Which I let her do - trying to be a nice guy and all... even tho it put a strain on our already marginal income - from the very start.

  As for the 'thin checkbook'...

  After 20 years of marriage, I was finally making a fairly decent income - in spite of the ex's JW life-style - and we managed to pay off the house in 16 years (on a 30-yr note). This should have freed up a large chunk of change that _should_ have gone into savings... but it didn't.

  Of course... she wanted to take all sorts of 'trips'... like to the Brooklyn Bethel/factory tour - which lasted a week. I was solo during that glorious time... whilst she was on a bus touring the countryside.

  Naw... I _definitely_ got the better end of the deal in the divorce settlement. My freedom - from her... and that cult.

  isbn 0-7607-0967-x.

  it tells of the search for the origins of the masonic lodge and the freemasons.. in the course of their search, they uncover some very interesting information - which they share in this book.. while initially, i was not interested in learning about the masonic lodge... i found that when & how it tied into religion - was very fascinating and made a lot of sense.. regards,.

  The thing that made NO sense to me was that celebrating birthdays was verboten - but celebrating wedding anniversaries (to the point of renting a hall and a live band, and having cake, etc) was okay.

  The BS about 'not giving honor' to someone sort of went out the window when they did things like this, I thought.

  Especially when you consider that the CS and other big-wigs attended.

  My thoughts on Mexican immigrants

  one of the pressing issues in the california election is (as always) the presence of "illegal" immigrants who come into our country, work under the table, and send money home.. my position on this matter, since i am a republican, might surprise you, but i favor no immigration restrictions at all with mexico!

  the mass immigration would solve many problems - there are many jobs, entry level and low-paying, that americans won't take because they don't pay enough.

  fruit picking, for instance.

  Ummm... I'm not sure what types of jobs you guys have, but I have been the 'victim' of jobs going 'overseas'.

  The last company that I truly worked for, was back a couple of years ago. It was bought by a firm in Israel, who then decided to move their engineering to Israel.

  Other jobs here in this country that I would normally do (Electronic CAD - PCB Layout & Design), are also going overseas - to places like China and India.

  Why? Because the engineers in those countries are willing to work for lower wages than Americans here.

  Just take a look at Silicon Valley... or Silicon Hills (Austin, TX) and you will see a graveyard of companies that didn't make it... and NO... it isn't due to 9/11 or the Enron scandal... or any other idiotic excuse you can dream up. Those things didn't help, though.

  As for Americans not WANTING to do those jobs that you described in your earlier post... well, one does what one HAS to do to survive. I personally put in an application to work at Pizza Hut a while ago - after being out of work for a bit - desperate to have ANY sort of income!

  It must be nice to be employed right now - and having a good enuf income to play 'armchair quarterback' in politics.

  Well... we were both JWs when I got married.

  I think that SHE got a pretty good deal... she never had to work. Just stay at home... do her 'out in service' silliness... take the checkbook to Wal-Mart and empty it...

  I am now divorced. I lost the house, and many other material things... but I now have my freedom. I would say that now, _I_ have the better deal. She still has to maintain all of that material stuff.

  It will be interesting to see how 'JW' he is when it comes to birthdays.

  I don't know about YOUR company, but many always celebrate them... with cake. Usually, they do this on break time, and I have seem an active practicing JW (regular pioneer, too) stuffing his mouth full of the stuff. When I confronted him with something like "When did Jehovah's Witnesses begin celebrating birthdays?" he responded, "Oh! It's not 'Birthday Cake', it's just 'Good Cake'!"

  well, the best thing about being a fader is that you can still talk to dubs you meet.

  they think they can us the contact to upbuild you and you use it to plant the seeds of 'truth' which is what i did in this situation.. last week when i was at the markets i saw a sister shopping and although i normally avoid dubs, i didn't this time.

  i said hello and she was very happy to speak to me.

  Bliss,

  Congrats on being able to talk to this person. If they are a 'thinker' they will start to think about not only what you have said, but other things that they have seen or heard.

  Once they have enough information... or perhaps in the process of gaining more information, they too will see the 'truth' and open their eyes.

  Castles (or Watchtowers) are built one brick at a time... and can also be destroyed the same way.

  life on mars

  as everyone knows there is much speculation that life began on mars as some simple singlecell organism that was thrown to earth in meteorite impact castoff.

  there is some tenuous evidence that suggests the posssibility is not that far fetched.

  now we are facing the possible answer to this question, "is there life on other planets"?

  I think that there is a VERY real possibility that life on Mars existed at one time or another. The first hurdle is to get NASA to admit it. After that, you can worry about how it will affect religions here on earth.

  In the brief 20 years that I was involved with the JWs, I do not seem to recall their dealing with the topic of 'sister' planets with inhabitants on them.

  Of course, since most religions are based upon false assumptions and myths from old anyway, I don't pay too much attention to their 'new light' revelations anymore.
