In my opinion if what the witnesses said were true, then catholicism would be much smaller than it is today and the witnesses would be larger than 7.3 million people.... all of whom were pioneering and conducting 4 or 5 studies each.... but unfortunately... its not true.

Jehovah's Witnesses do NOT claim to be prophets!!! Stop saying that!!!
by sd-7 infrom the prophetic shadows to the actual realities we observe that this god-provided channel for christians is the collective congregation of anointed ones who serve as a prophetlike organization under the leadership of its communicating head, christ jesus.. ...the word then became flesh to dwell among men as jehovahs greatest prophet or channel of communication to convey priceless words of wisdom directly to honest men.. .
...preparation of prophetical organization.
11 like the prophets noah, elijah, elisha and john the baptist, jesus, the prophet, gathered disciples around him and trained them to become preachers.

SD-7 - just curious, were those articles from before or after russel died? It seems to me a lot of the doctrine changed after he passed away. Or was this kind of craziness around when he was alive? Its amazing how many old items i've come across on this site and other websites. My WT cd from 2008 stops at 1950...

Want to read about those nasty disgruntled APOSTATES attacking Scientology and JWs. Priceless!
by AndersonsInfo infor people with lots of time on their hands, here's a priceless blog article written to defend scientology against apostates.
and guess what religion the author points to with the same problem?
jehovah's witnesses, of course.

Its interesting this article mentions the Amish, i think the Amish are the only cult like religion that at least allows the younger people to choose what they want to do , whether to stay amish or not after seeing what the world is like. Even though the cost is them being disconnected from family, at least they are giving the oppurtunity to choose. Scientology, JWs and Mormons, you arent even given that.

Has anyone else seen the movie Worlds Apart"? The Jehovahs witness flick?
by aquagirl ini just bought it.its amazingly accurate!
especially when the heroine tells her father that she has decided to quit school and become a full time pioneer.he was so pleased!!!
!that is exactly the way it is!the movie is very good, and isnt total jw bashing.a very interesting look at a sick cult.also,i had a lot of "thea" friends, girls that would get me to do something that they "said " they were doing, and when i didi it,they would have to confess for my own good.whew,i am soooo thankful to be out of that crap..

I've watched this movie as well. I like the simplicity and the almost paper thin characters. Those two elements really made the primary message of the film stand out, It just makes you wonder how many people around the world has gone through similiar situations. The details were pretty spot on, I think the inaccuracies were due to either culture or just the script writers trying to avoid being sued. I tell, it had me tearing up , its a beautiful movie.

The Back Room
by XPeterX ini was told to have a "conversation" with the elders there and they asked me 35.000 questions about something i had done.anyone ever had similar experience or something funny/weird happened?.

oddly enough, i had a backroom session, it was when me and one person from the hall were walking home together and got jumped and robbed. We were being counseled on the virtues of coming home before it gets late (the incident happened at 8:30pm, unless you eat the early bird special at diners , thats not late in my book)
the other time i was pulled into the backroom was when the they chased the girl i was interested in out of the congregation, and they wanted to make sure i wasn't going to leave cause they knew i was interested in the girl.

Sure, i get those calls all the time since I do networking as my job. Last december when i was terribly sick, i didnt get ONE phone call asking how i was doing. However, i got six calls , four text messages, and e-mail asking for computer help. Even though people outside of the organization will do this kind of stuff, its just amazing how FREELY people do it INSIDE the organization, and if you say no, you're not being "Christian".

Did you suffer from self hatred in the borg?
by highdose iniwill be the first to say that i did.
not surprising considering how they treated me all my life.
i had conseling for it ( wordly counselor) but between us neither one could work out where this issue came from.

Designs - it was tough for me to mention to my counselor that i was a JW, because to me, i didnt want to bring any disrespect to the organization. Fortunately, before my first I got in touch with my sister who told me to mention it because it would help immensly. Which it did... but i understand why people don't say which religious organization they are affliated with.
I experienced a lot of self-esteem issues, not really self-hatred. There were so many contradictory messages going on, that I was confused as to what or how i was doing and when i would see the numbers other people put in at preaching and stuff, i just felt that i could never measure up. On the one hand they say, dont measure yourself up to anyone, but then they bring up people to interview about how they are pioneering like crazy and then the speaker will say "See, be like THIS person." I was a great reader, but terrible at giving talks, so i didnt "progress" as fast as the good speakers who were given other assignments. Especially when i was younger, because of physical ailments, i couldnt preach as much, but i would STILL get counseled that since i was young, I should be preaching more. The standard was SO high, and my self-esteem took a beaten a lot.
Its funny, how other people joyous say "Hey, I'm Catholic" or "I believe in the rat demon god Guido." Yet Witnesses cant be that out spoken because you have to provide answer to so many of the questionable teachings and standards that you hold yourself up against. I know many times when i had to explain my beliefs, i felt like an idiot , cause most of them wouldnt sound right, so i would have to do what Poopsiecakes did, buried myself in the literature and meetings.

Are Any Of You Afraid of Dying At Armageddon?
by minimus ini'm not but i know some jws that have drifted but when things like 9/11 catastrophes occur, they're right back at the kingdom hall.. do you ever worry that the great tribulation might occur and you will die?.
-
chigaimasmaro
I agree with Dandingus' view, ... well with counseling I'm NOW able to agree with that view, when my doubts started to arise, i was sincerely afriad of dying at Armageddon. I would take walks thinking about that. But it didnt logically make sense, why would ONLY those would were JWs survive, when supposedly Christ died for EVERYONE?
So now, its just a view to doing my best as a person, if god doesnt deem me worthly of saving, at least "I" know i did my best and thats all that matters.

So.....do you or don't you want them to come after you?
by Quillsky ini've noticed an interesting dichotomy in these discussions.
as a starting point, i understand that we are all different --- there is no "we" here except that we have all been, or been involved with, jw's.
but this is interesting..... some people complain about being "hounded" by elders and shepherding calls and previous "friends" and so on.

I want them to come after me, but I dont want to just hear the same thing, "keeping up service, making meetings." Those things dont solve problems, its that kind of counsel that continually pushes me away from the organization and my family.
I'd love to just sit an elder down and just talk to him honestly, doubts and all, same with my older brother, but I know, instead of coming from the perspective of just being a loving human or family member, they are going to use the organizationally approved version of "love" and its what drives me away from them. You are expecting to see that Christ-like LOVE that you heard so much about when you want to talk with them, but you dont get that, you hear how you not being spiritually productive enough and coming to the meetings and preaching will fix all that.
