Close Encounters of the JW Kind...
by Jim_TX inthis morning (like many other mornings) i went to the local 'stop-n-shop' to get my wife a pint - of milk.
she likes to drink a bit of milk during the day.. anyway, on my way back to the vehicle - as i got in and was reaching for the key to start it up... an elderly lady (well... probably about my age - sheesh!
) with grey hair, approached my car with a handfull of magazines - and said something along the lines of.... 'pardon me sir,...'.

Evidently . . .
by Mad Sweeney inthis has been a wt buzzword for a long time but has come up in several recent discussions here.
so, i just had to look it up on the wt library cd-rom.. the word "evidently" appears 1,439 times in the insight books alone.
that number is staggering considering that the two-volume set is supposed to be comprised of encyclopedic facts.

Let's get that field service time in...
by Jim_TX ini normally don't go around looking for jws.
after my morning coffee and breakfast taco at jim's, i went over to big lot's to look around.
outside of the store, they have an island where a couple of trees were either saved - or planted - and provide a nice shade during the day.. under these trees, in the shade, was this fella - dressed in nice slacks and a shirt - wearing a tie - reading - or flipping through what appeared to be an 'awake' or a 'watchtower'.

It's funny - when I was just a publisher I would deduct time spent on breaks and snacking at the service station. Then when I started pioneering, i quickly learned from veteran pioneers that my time starts when I leave the KH and ends when I knock off at the end of the day. I was told "jehovah is gonna let us eat".
So i quickly learned that breaktime was valueable time to be counted so as to get that 90 hours. The clock never stopped all day long, until we made the last call. Running errands, eating, breaking - it was all field circus.

Yeah, my Zen (mp3 player) has a FM tuner on it, and you can just tune to the correct FM station and record directly. Pretty neat. Then you can go back later and make sure you didn't miss any "New Light"!

Help! Hold Me Back From Voicing My Opinions And Getting Shunned!
by nextdoorgirl ini am new to this board after lurking for awhile (thanks so much for creating this place simon, and for everyone's shared thoughts!).
i am going crazy because i have recently allowed myself to begin thinking (and it is so fun!
) and i am an outspoken person, and it is very hard for me to keep my opinions and discoveries about this place under my hat!

Welcome nextdoorgirl. Let me repeat to you the advice I was given when I "woke up". I was told: "don't let the cat out of the bag until the time is right....cause YOU AINT gonna put no cat back into a bag"
LOL - it's funny but true. Very true. As long as you are silent, you are in full control of the situation, and the timetable is all up to you. If you start talking, you will quickly lose control of the situation. And once you are branded "apostate" or a person with doubts, it's almost impossible to help anybody, even family. So plot your course carefully.
Best of luck you you.

Ray Franz covers this extensively in his first book "Crisis of Conscience". I believe it's between pages 110 and 160 somewhere. I don't have it handy to give you a definitel page number.

a question for experts on disfellowshipping
by poor places incan you be df'd for atheism?
if you only tell the elders that you don't believe in god, and as a result will be decreasing your activity, will they reprove you and/or df you if you aren't repentant over time?
pretend that you aren't telling them anything about your feelings regarding the organization or governing body.

If you want to fade, it might be best to not talk to anyone about it. Just start missing regulary, decrease your field service, and then keep on decreasing until you disappear. It can be tough, especially if you have friends and family in your congregation, as they will call and try to do all they can to "re-activiate" you.
If you never say anything to anybody, then they have no idea that you have "woken up", or that you have researched anything.
Some have had success saying things like "i've been stumbled but i'd rather not talk about it". Others have blamed it on depression.
My advice - if you definitely do not want to get disfellowshipped (for whatever reason) - then stay away from meetings with elders. You could even say things like "yeah, i've got to get back rolling with it" or "i hope to see you at the next meeting".
Best of luck to you.

I pioneered for several years. I worked part time cleaning at night and spent my daylight hours in the field circus.
