LITS - OMG! I think people do downplay things to try to reassure but death threats or threats of violence or stalking are serious crimes! That was horrible.

JW bumper stickers
by innerpeace inso my husband (who was never a jw) saw a christian bumper sticker today and asked me if the witnesses have any.
i said no (not that i know of anyway) so here are a few he came up with.. 'honk if you're a zombie'.
'my other car is noah's ark'.

If my lights are getting brighter then I'm about to do a U-turn
Every time someone reads this JW sticker I count one minute
If enough people read this sticker about my good news, then the end will come
If this bethel vehicle is being driven during morning worship or meeting hours then please contact the police.
Honk if you bonk! (chastely within the marriage arrangement)

Is there a 'third' way to leave?
by Splash inonce baptised, apart from death there are really just two ways to leave the congregation: df or da.. but notice this quote:.
"does he really desire to disassociate himself, or does he simply no longer want to associate actively with the congregation?".
- shepherd the flock of god (2010) p. 111. .

I used the phrase "I am not going to meetings". I did not say I'm not going to associate. Elders & family did probe to find out if there was a reason why and see if there was a way to categorise it as a disassociation. I was very positive, talked about the good work they had done and reassured them I'd talk to them if needed. I also went to the memorial soon after and was very positive there.
I had preceeded this with a carefully planned long fade, reducing activity, attendance at meetings and had no JW friends in the congregation - effectively showing I was weak.
Having spent 3 decades putting up with all kinds of rubbish, I was fine about leaving in a way where I could still have contact with my family. I didn't need to vent. For me it was the right decision.
They did try and hound but they couldn't get past the barrier of me thanking them. I moved to another area and that ended the contact.
How do family treat me now? It has taken a few years but they know that I'm better than anyone they know in the congregation (don't mean to boast). They certainly don't want to risk losing contact with me so they don't even preach to me :-)

Mike, if i could buy you an aged bourbon and sit outside with you and CoCo and listen to the evening I would. To talk about the turmoil, the frustration, the good times, the pain, the fear, the missed opportunities, the wonderful moments, the people you've made laugh, the people you've made cry, the things you can't do, the things you want to do, the things you will do. You're not alone.

cedars, great work!
Whilst we can all make guesses about who is likely or unlikely to complete such a survey the results do offer some interesting insights into which issues loom large for the doubting or ex-JW community.
The high % of ex-JW's who are being shunned by at least one relative suggests a strong reason why so many of us are still interested in having a voice about JW's and happy to complete your survey.
I also strongly believe that this simple process to make some confidential comment were available in the JW world it would provide no less shocking results (assuming those partaking embraced the spirit of honesty with themselves).
Like the number of annointed I'm sure the partakers of your survey will increase each year.

Mouthy was in for a very long time and so was Wobble. Only about 3 decades for me.
Anyone who was in it for more than a few years I'm sure it all felt like a lifetime - endless reminders to heed the reminders of the reminders...

Transfusions and Thievery Whaaaat?
by BlindersOff1 intransfusions and thievery.
.. some say blood transfusions.
are harmless.
-
MMXIV
Who's more crminal? 1) Robert for using this line of defence in his trial? or 2) the WBTS for attempting to encourage fear of blood transfusions in it's followers?

"persecution is good for us"
by nowwhat? in"because it refines us" - whenever this comes up it would drive me nuts.
here we 1/10 of 1% of the human population trying to do what we think is right .
and suposedly we need to be refined further?
-
MMXIV
Perhaps Governments could refuse to make compensation payments to those they have tortured because "persecution is good for you". Maybe the WBTS is telling it's abuse victims they should be grateful for being persecuted as they're "being refined"? Great example of cult logic mmxiv
