what makes you alive in spirit?
what makes life worth living?
what is it that you do that makes life all worth it?.
((((Shamus)))) -- I had no idea you had thoughts like that.
((((DanTheMan)))) -- Likewise.
I have pretty much been down in the dumps myself lately. For a while everynight I was silently whispering, "I hope I don't wake up tomorrow". It was so hard I was so stressed. Everyday seemed to add another stressful thing to my list of things to accomplish before the end of this semester. I just wanted to sleep for a week straight. Sadly that was not an option.
I don't think I am over my funk at the point. However, everyday there has always been one thing that made me laugh. Actually being in the class was a huge help. While sometimes I had to wrestle with getting the 9th graders under control, at least once a day some student would make me laugh, or thank me for the help I gave them. I just had to/have to hold on to those moments.
Honestly--the only thing that gets me through is laughter. At myself, at life, and surrounding myself with people who I can make laugh and who make me laugh. IT's during those bursts of laughter I don't have time to think about sleeping. Relishing those moments is sometimes the only thing that keeps me going.

Whoever did the costumes got it SPOT ON!! I was having flashbacks...a couple of those pictures looked like stills from a watchtower!!
Sadly there will be no way I can travel to New York to see it, but hopefully it's a rousing success and tours...to Minneapolis...
i just finished a 'historical novel' titled "confessions of a pagan nun", by kate horsley.
this is a story about a woman who grew up in ireland during the late 5th and early 6th century, at the time when christianity was beginning to displace the older pagan customs.
the story tells how gwynneve is raised according to the beliefs of her ancestors, and the conflicts she experiences as she gradually comes into contact with those claiming to represent the christian faith.
Gaiagirl--
If you enjoyed that book you might like Devoted by Alice Borchardt (Anne Rice's sister).
Same time period...it's kind of a romance if I remember right...it's been ages since I read it...I just know it deals with that blend of the old pagan ways with the new Christianity. It's got supernatural elements to it too...I remember really enjoying it at the time...you might want to pick it up--see if it sounds like something you'd enjoy...(It was the first thing I thought of when I read your description of your book).
Thunder--have you read Paradise Lost by Milton yet? I think it's kinda fun to read those two back to back...
Now I am reading Werewolves in Their Youth by Michael Chabon. It's a collection of short stories...he's also a contributor on This American Life, on NPR. I am enjoying it so far.
I'm also re-reading The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie. It's been years since I read it, and I just felt the need to pick it up again...it's just a great book. More interwoven short-stories. Very capatvating and beautifully written.
i enjoy swing dancing because it's very creative as a social dance.
you can learn a little or a lot, and enjoy it easily.
my parents taught me a little bit about swing dancing when i was young.
It's good to see you bringing your son up right...lol...he'll be very popular with the girls if he keeps up the dancing...nothing better than a man who knows how to dance.
I used to swing dance when I was 15. My friend Adam did it all the time, and he taught me how to do some stuff...he's the only one I have danced with...just wouldn't be the same without him I feel...sadly I haven't danced much since and figure I have probably forgotten it all by now...
There is a place in St. Paul...it's a park, actually back in some caves (they used to use them to make booze during prohibition...anyway they have swing nights with a big band every thursday and friday--I have never been, always wanted to--but I don't have anyone to go with and wouldn't remember how to do it either.
as a kid i would try to pay attention, but i just couldn't hang in there.
if i didn't day dream i was going to go insane.. i used to create scenarios in my mind that i was a jw super hero.
i had a special costume that was partially made of "flubber" that would allow me to bounce all over the auditorium.
It is so good to know I'm not the only pervert in the crowd...
So many sexually frustrated bodies packed into an auditorium...*starts to daydream again*
funny article on msn...
"what's your sign?".
the epitome of cheese, this line, which has been around since the beatles came to america, ranks as the very worst line in dating history.
My personal favorite to use, "Would you like to be touched by an angel?"...
Ok I have never used that before in my life. My usual pick-up technique is to sit all shy-like in the corner...so far it's been a huge failure.
for me i really enjoy a johnny depp movie, this guy has talent.
It's hard to pick one...
Kevin Spacey, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks, Dusin Hoffman, and Gene Hackman are all great!
as far as best actress...Cate Blanchette...no one else even comes close in my book.
as a long time poster on other message boards.
i have often noticed, that despite the topic, there are always certain personalities on each.
i guess it is kind of like the congregation, in that no matter what one you were in, there were characters that matched up with the one you left.
I am the walrus

I have brought shame upon myself...
Who will help me score higher?!
