I'm female, and I think the whole idea that men and women can't be friends is a bunch of crap. Anyone who says it is impossible has either never had a relationship like this or is unable to have a relationship like this. My very best friends in the whole wide world happen to be men. My friend Jon is a prime example, we have been best friends since 7th grade. I tell that kid everything, we have never dated, (tho in 7th grade we did kiss once-hee hee) and in fact he is going to be married next spring. We do lots of things by ourselves. He is like a big brother type to me, and he is very protective of me in a sister kind of way. I am quite sure there is NO sexual tension going on here. I appreciate having him and other guys as friends to have a male perspective on things, not to mention the countless times I saved their asses with their girlfriends by giving them a female perspective. I think it's unhealthy not to have plutonic relationships...

Male and Female Friends
by StinkyPantz inmy husband and i have had sort of a disagreement of sorts.
he says that men cannot be friends with women.
he says that any man that appears to want to be friends with a woman really just wants to get in her pants, and if they end up friends it's purely by accident.

The wailing wall of the Jews
by docpalo inrecently some hassidic jew who stands and rocks like a catatonic shizoprhenic at the wailing wall in jerusalem noticed some water stains up near the top of the wall.
immeadiately he summised this to be some holy sign of the messiah.
but the deputy director of public works says that it most likely is a ruptured pipe or drain.

I do read a lot of alternative press articles, magazines, websites...It frightens me more that George Bush is in charge of our government, rather than Jewish people in charge of the media.
Do I think they are justified in their treatment of Palestinians, of course not. Do I like the fact the US always has Isreals back, nope. But frankly I don't think the US has any right to think they can intervine in the Middle East, but now we are completely off topic.
I believe the point of your first post was to talk about the nutty religious beliefs of Jewish people, not to get into a long drawn out debate about Middle Eastern politics and who controls the Media. (by the way you should be more concerned about Conglomerates owning the media, more than you should Jewish people-there are only about 8 companies world wide who are responsible for the information we recieve) If we are going to talk about people with insane religious beliefs being in charge then we need to look at Catholics, Hindu, Muslim, Right-Wing Christians, and any other faith under the sun. Marx had it right when he said religion is the opiate of the people. ANYONE who uses a religious practice to justify their political behaviors is a nutjob in my book. I think you are unfairly singling out jews, when in fact there are a hell of a lot of people doing unfathomable things to other people, and with "agendas" that are in the name of religious faith.

How many did YOU recruit?
by In_between_days injust a quick question, and one that seems to take jehovahs witnesses back a little, an extremely good question to ask a pioneer.
"so, with all your hours of service, how many people have you actually brought into the jehovahs witness organisation?".
um.... genuinely, 100% of my old jw freinds have all been raised in the organisation.

I never brought anyone in...tho that might have something to do with the fact that I never made any return visits.

First Impressions : Men & Women
by professor inthis question is kind of related to the male and female friends post: .
a female friend of mine once told me that many women find it necessary to flirt with a man the first time they meet him, even if there is no real attraction.
the reasoning is that a man will never pay attention to a woman unless there is a sexual interest first.

Abomin-
I am not hot for them, nor are they hot for me, it's just playfulness...however I wouldn't flirt with a complete stranger. Of course I find redeeming qualities in these guys, they are my friends. Can't you find someone attractive in personality, looks, whatever, and not want to jump their bones?

oral sex
by lilpumpkin inwould someone who was a jw all his life (24 years) know he's not suppose to be giving/receiving oral sex?
is it possible he might not have heard about this rule?
does it not apply if the person is disfellowshipped?

It is possible...I didn't know it was "wrong", even between married people, until I was 18...and even then it sort of came out on accident when I was listening to some old biddies talking...talk about mortifying...

80% of my friends are guys, I just prefer their company. None of them are sexually charged relationships tho, at least as far as I know. But I never heard of flirting with guy just to keep his interest. I will admit now, even after several years of friendship I do flirt with them. But it's pretty much understood that this is just joking around. Most of them all have serious girlfriends, and I am not interested in anything more than friendship.
I can't even fathom flirting with someone I didn't find attractive on some level...just seems kinda goofy.
In response to your question, I think it is kind of demeaning to women, that they would honestly feel they have nothing to offer more than sexuality.

Oops!!! Just looked down...
by Elsewhere ina moment ago i was sitting here typing a post and all the while i kept hearing a polite little "meow" from one of my cats every ten or twenty seconds.
after submitting the post i looked down to pet the cat and to my horror its tail was under one of the wheels of my chair.
