LOL,
Lion Cask, I think you have just inspired the GB to move their meeting room to the basement.

(reuters) the world of 7 million jehovah's witnesses took a horrific turn this morning when an aviation stunt went bad and claimed the lives of the seven members of the governing body of the watchtower bible and tract society.
the governing body directs both the spiritual and temporal lives of their followers, who believe their leadership speaks to them directly from god.
dead are samuel herd (age 75), geoffrey jackson (55), m. stephen lett (61), gerrit losch (69), anthony morris (60), guy h. pierce (76) and david h. splane (66).

i was looking at another thread and began thinking..... isn't it amazing that the "slave" has put itself in the place of the "master" ?
anyway you look at it, the organization has taken matt.
24:45-47 and twisted it beyond recognition.. witnesses have become slaves of the "slave class" and not of the master.

Witnesses have become slaves of the "slave class" and not of the Master. The Master Jesus Christ was fired from his job by the self appointed group of 6 old white men and a token brother living in Brooklyn. In effect they have said "we are stand ins for Christ, serve us instead."
Way to go Governing Body! Self Serving Arrogant Assholes.

or what are the forces of inertia that keep jehovers witnesses from changing?.
acolytes.
Death by a thousand cuts. It will be a cumulative effect of ...
Shrinking contributions, little or no growth by D2D, multiple lawsuits worldwide, bad press, more doctrinal screw ups, changing tech that makes their business model more archaic, a couple of high level defectors, a lack of brothers for elders, and the tightening of the grip as they realize the prior things are happening.
They will survive and never completely collapse, but they will be a totally different organization.
i am a former active poster here, former elder, former bethelite and pretty much known by people on the xjw boards since the mid 90's.
gawd that makes me sound old.. i notice that a great deal of uproar is being made by allegations of a hide in the closet alleged bethelite.
to counter the damage caused by this claim, i am happy to address any questions people may have about bethel, protocol, etc.. i was at the canada branch for 11 years, worked in multiple areas including the legal department, service desk and writing dept.
Lol @ misery "Oral Review".
Seriously though, a brother from Bethels service dept recently said that pornography is a plague within the organization.
i've been reading this thread for some time and finally had the opportunity to create an account.
i am anxious to meet you all and have a support group/active audience over the next crucial months and years following.
background: long-time doubter, giving way to frustration and skepticism beginning about 10 years ago and finally to total admission that this is a cult and that atheism is the way to go.
Welcome, I can't wait to see the finished project.

theres a new film in production called ' losingmyreligion'.
its being produced by stephan mcguire who is a proper film producer who happens to have been brought up as a jehovahs witness.
think leonardo dicaprio got something to do with making it too :).
Barbara,
Thanks for the information. I think that the WTS will have to change the DF/shunning policy simply to survive. The campaign in Brazil, the BBC interview, Worlds apart, and others are drawing attention to this policy. It is a true violation of human rights that people will shun you simply because of what you believe. It certainly goes against the freedom of speech, and freedom of religion clauses in the US constitution.
The WTS will be forced to change as there is more attention on them. This policy along with Blood is one of the main reasons they are having court battles in Russia.
One other side point, The primary reason that they hate facebook and other social networks is because many witnesses are associating with DF family members online. As society in general becomes more connected through these types of networks the organization becomes ever more fearful of the things they cannot control. This makes them look more and more authoritarian and paranoid, which in turn makes the average person think "What are they afraid of?" "What are they hiding?".
The organization's policies will be the source of its own demise.

there was recently a thread on the possibility of there being some "new light" forthcoming on the blood issue.. is this a confirmed rumor, or is it just wishful thinking?
can anyone verify this?.
siam.
Vidioit I agree,
I wonder though if perhaps they are liquidating assets to get enough cash for the anticipated legal fights?
They have painted themselves into a corner and need someway of getting out.

i've seen several posts relating to the mood among longtime jws here recently.
i thought i would add to that collection and recount a discussion i recently had with my dad and a small group of folks about his age.
quick background on the group:.
Change is in the wind. I can see it in my congregation. Many people know that there is something wrong. The indicators that tell them all is not right include: branch closings, no new appointments to the GB, increasing partakers, the end not coming, an increasing authoritarian tone in the literature, legal judgements against the Witnesses, and little to no increase in publishers. Not a tremendous amount of good news for the organization lately. I have even heard some muse that "it seems as if God's spirit is missing". People see that there is someting wrong. It just takes getting them to understand why these things are happening. SIAM
a lot of talk has centered around information dispensed at the recent km schools.
many brothers feel there is a "tightening up" taking place.
i had a recent experience that you may find interesting.. after the meeting i was working with our cobe on some congregation tasks when out of nowhere he said, "have you looked up any extra information about higher education since the km school?
This is one of the reasons I gave for stepping down recently. I feel strongly that I need to do what is right for my family. I never went to college and the lack of a degree will limit my advancement and perhaps job security. Like any parent I want my children to have more opportunity than I did.
I actually brought this up in a BOE meeting asking the other brothers about the hardline stance. All agreed that the direction has changed and that it will be a challenge to apply. There are several elders in my hall who will have their qualifications reassessed. I anticipate at the next CO visit there will be follow up on how to do this. Also generally after KM school is finished, the branch will send a "recap" letter to the BOE's.
The net affect is there will be fewer qualified men who are able to serve. It is extremely ironic that in an organization that prides itself on educational programs that education is demonized.
