Gave up on you and went out for a pint! Thanks for the reply. I guess I just wasn't having a problem with keeping the apples and oranges seperate. While I can see how local world conditions can affect how the message of the witnesses is recieved, nothing about those circumstances changes the way the witnesses rob people of their personal freedoms. Ok, I had a couple pints. Hope I'm making sense.

This thread is scary....it reminds me of all the reasons JW's embrace the borg. Armageddon....then Paradise.....a perfect life, with no stress, pain, suffering, etc.
Huh? Puffsrule, I know your post was a few back, but I'm just wondering if you can flesh this thought out for me a little bit. I guess I don't get it.
I think the issue is: we've got it easy and are spoiled. Others have countered that they don't want that kind of thinking to belittle the kind of damage done by the WT.
So... I guess I don't see what you're saying, that's all.
the christian greek scriptures are full of "the end will come soon" rhetoric.
they hoped to be reunited with each other after death or to be among those paul spoke of who would in effect escape death altogether by being raised to the heavens at the coming of the lord.. they waited and waited.
they sacrificed much and died horrific deaths.
I'm afraid the planet Earth would make a pretty good monument to that, don't you?

Seriously, that's wonderful. And I really can't say I've got anything but fond memories of my parents. The source of my social retardation is simply growing up a JW.
As a Witness, anything outside of the fold was ugly to me. It was different and wrong. Such bigotry! But Im fighting my JW background, slowly looking at the world through my own eyes, not the ones the society gave me. And Im learning that theres nothing so evil and ugly about creative, unique people listening to themselves and their own consciences.
So I think I'm getting there. Slowly.

Andi, I haven't been stopping by the board for long, but this is far and away the most important post I've read yet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing it. I sincerely hope I am on the road to recovery. I've only been out a month and I'm trying my best to be patient with myself while I learn how to live in the real world. Thank you again

in my personal experience, i don't think so.
i believe they are just like anyone else and don't "stand out" in respect to their honesty, as they like to claim.
The witnesses aren't better than anyone else, they just like to brag that they are.
Where they have helped people to make changes for the better morally, and there's no question they have, their record is no better than that of many other organizations and volunteer groups. And at what cost has it come to those who have become Witnesses? And how genuine is it when forced by coersion, peer pressure, and loss of personal freedom?
on 2 recent occasions i have been joined for breakfast by 2 separate individuals, both ex-witnesses.
stunningly - to me anyway - both were absolutely appalled when, for my "choose any 7 items for 1.99" brekky i opted to include black sausage.
just love the way those black bits mix into the egg-yolk, mmm!

Perhaps you should print out the latest WT article on business dealings or lying/cheating. They can be very self-righteous and I enjoy throwing that back at witnesses (like the many articles they've written to defend the WT against labels, like when they are called a "cult". I like to use those when others discredit everything I say becuase I'm "apostate").
