Constant war in the Middle East is beneficial for the West- they sell us oil, and we save their asses by selling them guns, bombs & tanks. It's good business. Not so much fun for the people who actually live there though...

Iraq Descends Into Religious Civil War
by cofty inhalf a million refugees are on the move ahead of sunni jihadists in northern iraq.. the speed of the advance is startling.
the iraqi army seems to be impotent.
the government's attempt to declare a state of emergency had to be abandoned when insufficient mps turned up to vote.. the insurgents are just 60 miles from baghdad this evening.

Birthday celebration/participation
by Zana inmy wife is considering to let our kids participate, maybe even celebrate their own birthdays.
she says what can be so bad about just giving a little kid (who doesn't yet understand the bible) a day full of joy and happiness?
she herself actually delayed her own baptism as a teenager in order to celebrate one more birthday.

Just do it, lol. The JWs use Gen. 40:20-22 & Matt. 14:6-10 to justify being birthday Nazis; but just hit them with Romans 14:5.
As long as no-one is beheaded you are all good...

"100 years of kingdom rule" so what?? what does it mean??

What does it mean? LOL. What does anything mean? Why are we here? Is this life all there is?
It means the Watchtower will keep printing crap until everyone who remembers it dies off, and then they will find some more crap to print, to keep the ordinary JWs amused while they waste their lives in meaningless routine.

What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?
by Fernando inquite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.
the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.
if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

There certainly are a lot of external factors that can drag people down- such as family, employment etc. For me it was the fact that I was completely washed- up: I had to throw away everything I believed and start again- working through what was true & what wasn't, and whether my parents had led me astray as well- so it took humility and a willingness to learn- which I think is what is necessary. And sometimes, too I think just reason & rationality isn't enough- to have someone you really trust say 'This is BS- give it up!' can be the key to making a breakthrough to something better. LOL, that's my two cents, anyway.

So, then, what should we do with regard to the Internet? Shun it altogether? That may be necessary in some cases. The Internet junkie mentioned earlier did that in order to overcome years of addiction. On the other hand, using the Internet can benefit us, provided we let ‘thinking ability keep guard over us and discernment safeguard us.’—Prov. 2:10, 11.

For young people there is a 'need to breed'- the desire to pass on the genes to a next generation in a misguided desire for a form of immortality- that makes members of the opposite sex seem attractive. But beyond that, there really isn't much physical difference between men & women- especially as they get older.

Coping with becoming an atheist?
by Crazyguy inits been a very eye opening experience for me to find out that the god of the bible is as real as thor or ra.
i still believe a higher power created life but can see now how it doesn't really care about us.
so with this in mind realizing one has only 70-80 years to live and that may be just it, is very stunning..

IDK. All these questions seemed really important when I first discovered them... but the questions of god, the afterlife, and the meaning of life on Earth really don't have any concrete answers, so I think it's best to just concetrate on living life- while it's there.
It's like the guys in a firing squad- one of them has a blank bullet in his gun- but they never find out who, so they can never be absolutely sure that they were the one who killed the condemned man. Likewise, there might be a god who is a really nice guy with a beard who says 'Welcome to Heaven'... but the odds of that are pretty remote.

'Peace and Security' - What do you think?
by startingover13 inwoke up this morning to my cnn app alerting me that popel francis has called for peace in the middle east, and is making arrangements to meet with leaders in that region to promote tolerance and acceptance.
i've been out for almost a year now, inactive for almost two, but in that moment all of the jw teachings about the signs on the end, the cry of peace and security, and what would happen to those that aren't serving jehovah returned to me.
24 years of teachings are hard to forget, and reading the story on cnn.com didn't help the situation.

LOL, the Pope is just grandstanding- seeking publicity. Since when have the Jews & Muslims ever paid any attention to what Christians say? It might happen when Hell freezes over... and since there is no Hell either it will never happen, lol. Everything in the Bible was written for the people of those times- not for us. Check out the two Roman goddesses- Pax & Securitus.

What would this world be like today , if their was never , ever , any concept of a GOD or a Creator .?
by smiddy ingiven the fact that religion has been such a divisive force throughout history amongst all nations and tribes of the earth , i wonder how things might have been different had their been no god / creator / religion in the mix.. of course religion alone has not been the cause of all mankinds troubles & conflicts with each other , nationalism , polotics , racism , to name a few are also guilty of these problems.. but it seems to me that religion , beleif in a creator / god and its consequences of such a beleif are the cheif causes of mankinds troubles.. remember this is your thoughts if a creator , god , religion didnt exist in human conscience .. what are your thoughts ?.
smiddy.

but did not stop deists/ believers to greatly contribute to progress.
Yes, but not because they were believers... but in spite of it. It took the Catholic Church until 1992 to admit that Galileo had, in fact, been correct; and the Earth did orbit around the Sun- in spite of what the Bible said! And scientists used to believe that the centre of the Earth was composed of water- because the Bible said so. Religion has been a disaster for humans.
