On a point of note, what IS the Christian message, to your mind? I fail to see how it may be distorted by this single passage/gloss.
Little toe,
Concerning this gloss the Christian message is not the existence of three Persons that make up the nature of God. Such a message is Antichrist and not truth. Because of this teaching most believe we will become non-human beings at death and go off somewhere else to exist for all eternity. The real message is as John stated:
1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.. . . 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Eternal life does not mean we must undergo a change in nature as non-humans. This same truth that we are to proclaim includes the fact that Christ will return here to rule as a Human Being.
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
So it is at such a time and at such a place that we will exist and be like Him.
Joseph
