As a child I was curious and afraid of apostates. I remember some picketing outside with placards shouting religion is a "snare and a racket." I asked my parents what that meant and didn't receive a good answer, just that they were crazy. Then I wondered what made them crazy.

they can't be any younger than 50-ish, surely.
They can change the meaning of generation again if they want and make up something else to fit their needs. It reminds me of that annoying song:

the new light on the generation gives us even further reason not to watch star trek re-runs.. the title "star trek - the next generation" misleads people about the real meaning of what is meant by a "generation".. evidently the lives of starfleet officers who served aboard uss enterprise ncc-1701 would overlap with those who served aboard the uss enterprise ncc-1701-d. since spock and mccoy's life overlapped with picard's, they were contemporaries, and thus of the same generation.. if the producers of the show were truly sincere in advocating the truth, they would have titled the show "star trek - the contemporary overlapping generation continued".. my dear brothers and sisters: let us be resolved never to be deceived the by the deceptive entertainment of this world!.

I was basically born-in, baptized at 19 (why didn't I run away and go to University!?!?), stopped field service 2 years ago, and recently began my fade from the meeting over the past few months.
If I wasn't afraid my son would abandon me when he was older, I would DA myself...he's super close with his Daddy.

just to give a brief background on myself, i've been a jw for nearly 12 years now.
i didn't grow up in a jw family, nor is anyone else in my immediate family a jw (except my wife and her family).

What are they going to say about family I wonder? Take your kids out in service to bond with them instead of going to the park? Too bad I was going to let family obligations get in the way of the Saturday convention I was assigned to!!!
it was so sad to see these children raised in a crazy religion and abused by their preacher (tony alamo).
what was more disturbing was how similar some things were to jws, such as blaming the victim instead of the abuser.. one child bride made an escape from tony and ran away from his house, running for 2 miles before she reached the home of a complete stranger and asked if they could help her.
they let her stay the night and gave her money for a bus ticket to her mother in california.
That would be nice if Oprah or Dr.Phil did a story on the Watchtower, it would plant seeds of doubt.
I remember watching a Dateline or something when I was young about JWs being in a "Pedophile Paradise" and I thought it was opposition from Satan. But then I kept seeing tv shows that mentioned former Witnesses who left the organization because their child needed a blood transfusion, and that made me do research.
It's amazing the religion still has followers and how Tony claims he's "just another one of the prophets that went to jail for the Gospel."
Thank you for the link Black Sheep. I can't believe the horrible things Desiree's parents are saying about her on the Ministry site. Tony Alamo took an 8 year old to be his spiritual bride, and started abusing her when she was 9!
LostnFound - I would wonder what was going on in their homes too. Tony is 76, so it would have been nicer if he got that sentence way earlier.
