  Did You Have a Favored Place to Sit in the KH?

  Ahh thanks snowbird. I was suffering from post natal depression as well. On the plus side, it made my decision to start fading a whole lot easier!

  As a young girl sitting with my family, it was about 3 rows from the front on the right hand side. Later, when I sat with my friends, we usually sat half way to 3/4 back either left or right. After I was married with a baby, it was at the back as near to the exit as possible. After I had my second child (we had moved by this stage and had joined another congregation) I was made to sit in the book room with no sound system and as far as I can remember, no heating either. Nobody wanted to hear a gurgling baby while the meeting was in progress. There was no point in me being there so I eventually stopped going until my baby was old enough to be told not to gurgle during meetings!

  Being A JW Is FUN!!

  some people think that it must be miserable to be a jw because they dont celebrate christmas or birthdays.. but they're wrong!

  being a jw is miserable because you cant do fucking anything.. crazy hair day - this was a fundraising day where kids come to school with blue or red died hair and give a $2 donation.

  i wasnt allowed to do this because it was too worldly to have "crazy hair" and it would be too hard to wash it out for tomorrow nights meeting.. school camp - this was unnessisary association with those devil worshipping 9 year olds.

  but yeah, once you miss out on all that stuff.. you've missed out. You cant go back and have a normal childhood with lots of friends and fun.

  Ain't that the truth! I used to dread having to explain why I wasn't joining in all the fun activities at school and being made to feel like a total freak!

  Me and Hubby are so glad we faded in time for our kids to enjoy at least part of a normal childhood. From the age of 7 our son took an active part in everything from Christmas parties, birthdays, school outings, after school clubs etc.. etc...., and over 20 years later he still has wonderful memories and loyal, close friendships that were formed during those early years.

  When I see some of the JW children I know, often sitting quietly and withdrawn with subdued expressions on their little faces, my heart goes out to them.

  Get the elders to leave me alone!!

  my dad read something online that i posted and told the other elders (he's the boe coord.).

  they've read me articles about homosexuality and tried to coerce me to stay with the family instead of living with my uncle for a week.

  i went to my uncle's anyway.

  Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but there should be someone in authority at your college who you could talk to, and if necessary he/she could refer you to an individual or an organisation who specialise in offering councelling and/or practical help to young students in your situation. Surely it is not unheard of for gay students to need advice and guidance from time to time while they are struggling to overcome difficulties at home?

  As far as I know there are no gay relatives in my family but I would like to make an observation if I may.

  I am a devoted animal lover who watches nature programs all the time. I am always coming across examples of homosexuality in the animal kingdom. How can anyone say it is unnatural to be gay when it happens all the time in just about every species that has been studied from gut worms to primates!

  I used to breed guinnea pigs and several of them turned out to be gay. One in particular was very handsome and would have made a superb stud, but he was only interested in other male pigs, the females just left him cold. He obviously had not read his bible lol.

  A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them. [1] [2]Animal sexual behavior takes many different forms, even within the same species. [3] According to Bagemihl, "the animal kingdom [does] it with much greater sexual diversity — including homosexual, bisexual and nonreproductive sex — than the scientific community and society at large have previously been willing to accept."   Being gay is a fact of life, whatever species you happen to be. It is no more unnatural than being left handed. Many faiths put humans on a pedestal as being created 'in God's image' and therefore above basic animal traits, but at the end of the day we are just living creatures with the same traits as most other species.

  Of course, the problem remains in trying to persuade brain washed JW relatives to accept this information, but there is no harm in trying.

  Witness Funeral--to go ot not to go?

  my 78 year old great-uncle is very ill and is expected to pass away within the next couple of days.

  he has been being receiving chemo for a few weeks (which he appeared to be responding to), but then he developed severe pneumonia and then had a massive heart attack a few days ago.

  he now has a blood infection, and his liver and kidneys have quit functioning.

  Yes, I know what you mean. I dread JW funerals too, but go out of respect for the person who has passed away, especially if they were a close family member. Unfortunately it involves gritting your teeth and sitting through the lecture from the platform. It seems the primary theme of any JW funeral is to ensure the captive audience have an earful of WT doctrines and to try and shame the ex JWs into returning to the clutches of the Borg.

  The life and times of the deceased comes waaaay down the list of priorities and must be fitted into a set outline issued by the Society. At the last funeral we attended, nothing was said about our deceased relative's life other than how much of her time she gave to knocking doors, attending meetings and assemblies, bringing bible studies into the 'Truth' etc. Her personal life experiences and achievements were barely touched upon!! Nobody would have known what she was like as an individual.

  Just try and switch your mind off from the drivel coming from the platform and think about your loved ones, which is the reason you are there. Your support will be very much appreciated by the people who matter, I am sure.

  A question for anyone who was a convert and not born in, did you ever have a moment where you learned something new or had an experience that made you think "um, is this such a good idea?"

  Yes Mickey! The very first meeting I ever attended I was told to shun a girl not much older than myself (in her mid teens) who was struggling at the back of the KH with a tiny baby and getting no help from anyone. The man who ordered me to shun her was her own father. I found the experience very upsetting as my natural instinct was to offer friendship and assistance to the poor girl. Her crime was, of course, to have a child out of wedlock. Even her own mother was ignoring her and the baby - her own granddaughter - throughout the two hours of the meeting. Unbelievably heartless and shocking!!!

  Although I was conditioned (for a while) to accept shunning as Jehovah's way of keeping the congregation clean, I never really got over that first introduction to the cruel and humiliating rule which I am sure helped prevent me from being totally brainwashed.

  Good for you, ssn587! I would love to have been there and watched you in action lol. I wonder how that JW felt in retrospect after the event. The incident must have unsettled him, being shown up for being an ignorant a**hole in front of so many people, just for obeying WT rules. You were polite and courteous yet managed to get your point across regarding how two faced the religion is. With a bit of luck it will jolt that JW into thinking for himself and realising how ridiculous this shunning rule is. I hope more ex JWs follow your example. Well done !!

  The shunning policy is ridiculously cruel and inhumane.

  Absolutely! I have always felt shunning was utterly wrong even as a Dub.

  Me and Hubby have been DA'd over 20 years but we talk to any JW we happen to bump into and so far nobody has outright shunned us to our faces.

  You jolly well hold your head up high. You are not a second class citizen and have nothing to feel ashamed about. You have a perfect right to speak to anyone you meet. Even if a JW tries to publicly shun you, do what other posters have said, give them a smile and say Hi, how are you? If they refuse to acknowledge you, they will be the ones to look rude, ignorant and stupid to any onlookers, while you will have nothing to reproach yourself about. How could anyone condemn you for being friendly?!

  Anyway, I sincerely hope you won't have to deal with too many shunners.
