  Why you love America

  it struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.

  i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.

  as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

  Living out of the states for the last decade has increased my appreciation for being an American. The freedoms that Americans have is undoubtedly the best part of being an American. Yes, there is controversy that some if not a lot of those freedoms are being taken away.

  But at the end of the day, the simple things like freedom of speech, a fair trial, bearing arms, and just all around pleasent to be around without looking over your shoulder, that's why I love being an American.

  I miss living in the states, I miss the beautiful mountains, the choice to jump into your car and go on a road trip to the ocean, or to the Rockies...

  Five year anniversary!

  no, not wedding anniversary, but five years ago today was the first time in twenty three years that we did not turn in field service time to our "book study overseer".

  poor guy, we really did and do care for him, but it was time to be done for good!.

  we had thought for a short while that we might try to slowly fade away, maybe even going to another congregation and then fade, but we just walked away from the one we had been in for a number of years.. we are very happy to have done so!!

  Coming right out and saying they are the direct mediators to Jehovah, not Jesus, since they believe they (the 144k) are to be king/priests in heaven, then they are to take over while on earth. Saying something that Jesus is concentrating on some other bullshit while he entrusting them with ruling directly over the flock.

  Hah! Man, if only... that would make a bunch of people go, wtf? maybe...

  And here I thought we all came here to bitch and complain about the WTBTS. Who cares what Anonymous does, all of ya bitchin at the legalities and "ethics" of doing something like this is pointless. It's going to be hacked, info will be spread and in whatever way it will do harm. 'Nuff said. Am I participating in something illegal? Are you? Can you prove it? Could I prove it? Do I care? Do you?

  I knew there were bigger things at stake with the WTBTS. The remark in the irc chat that the RBC is WTBTS version of Western Union is quite eye-opening.

  Two things the WTBTS fears: 1) media 2) IRS

  1) Bad publicity and the "truth" coming out on how they ARE Big Business.

  2) IRS audits them... and finds out and goes after them.

  Would You Listen To A Prayer From A JW And Say Amen If They Said A Prayer In Your Presence?

  my mom has had visits from various jws and they have asked her if they could say a prayer before they left.

  i respectfully listened to the prayers while i was visiting and might silently say amen if i felt the prayer was appropriate for my mom.. i'm just curious, how would you handle this type of situation?.

  No. I stopped saying amen at the hall years ago too. If someone asked, which they never did, I just say I said it silently to avoid the subject.
