Newbie
by Stubborn Disbeliever ini'm new here, so i thought i'd start with an introduction and summary of my life, for the most part.
i have a tendancy to ramble ridiculously, so bear with me :) and this will be all over the place as thoughts take over the keyboard.. i was born a 5th generation jw.
i never really "felt" it, but was book smart about it.

Jeremiah book study material for this week makes a horrible point!
by stillin inwhile discussing how jeremiah was an encouragement to some of those around him, and how christians today can likewise be encouraging to depressed ones, the book plainly says, "when it is appropriate, offer encouraging words.
you will not have a divine revelation to offer to the one needing encouragement, yet you can include positive thoughts from the word of god, thoughts that focus on what the future holds.".
i'm sorry but this to me seems to be what is at the core of the problem with witness friendships.

amazing to me......
positive thoughts are great, true kindness, even better!!
what about all the other qualities that should be shown?
like true love, thoughtfullness, understanding, forgiveness, mercy, compassion, manners, honesty, actually caring..............
the list could go on and on for pages.......
just thinking, mrs thor

by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis isn't a jw experience, but for those of you that have been following my life, i thought i'd have a drink and share this strange event in my post-jw life.. for you wonderful newbies, you can catch up on highlights of my story in the few threads i've started here.
i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.

Hello and welcome Captain Blithering!!
I agree with you about disfellowshiping...so cruel in my opinion.
I also agree with Balaamsass...bad fruit!!
and with Emery...about the control.....
and with AM Number 1....about humility to say "I don't know".....
Love is everywhere, you just have to look!
I wish for peace and happiness for you and your wife!!
Love, Mrs. Thor

Well... I got my 'invite'
by Jim_TX inas most know, it's that time of the year when the jws go out 'in force' and bang on doors trying to leave their litter-ature for the memorial - aka 'memorial invite'.. this morning (saturday), i was at the local coffee shop - which is normal for me.
my wife was at home chilling on the sofa, in her nightie.. i got a text message around 9:30-ish saying that jws had been at our house.. when i got home, my wife said she was sitting on the sofa when she heard a light 'tap tap' on the door.
we have a doorbell.

We got ours left on our front porch yesterday. Even though anyone in our old hall who knew us would have known when we would be home or not. We put it in our recycling bin.

Public talk today on evolution today - real doozy
by Comatose innotes:.
bible says god created us.
scientific principle says - simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

I'm reading a good book on this subject written by a biology professor named John Janovy, Jr. It's called Intelligent Designer: Evolution for Politicians. He claimes that scientific illiteracy is a public health hazard. I'm about half way through and it is interesting. Maybe some on here would enjoy reading it....

why do I write?
by Separation of Powers ini must admit, i feel rather like winston smith from orwell's 1984. i sit here in front of the image of a blank piece of paper on my computer screen.
i am alone in my study, alone, but like winston, i am hesitant to write on this blank piece of paper, fearful that i am under the watchful eye of the telescreen.
it is a form of paranoia, i guess, a paranoia that is synonymous with being in the organization; an organization that worries more about perception than substance.

Welcome to you Separation of Powers!
I'm glad you decided to write!

Hi and welcome thinking_ability!
My family (husband, wife, daughter, son and his girlfriend) all left the organization at the same time almost six years ago. The only thing I wish we could have done better is to have left sooner. So I would say to you to really think about everything that inpact your children and get out ASAP!
I hope you find your way,

Hello raindrops and welcome!
Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!!! It is such an exciting time in life! (and you should be surrounded by positive, loving people)
Thankfully she is young enough so you can take a little time to think things out. I wish you success and happiness in your future with your husband and baby! I don't think you would ever regret putting the three of you first in your decision making.
