Uh, this bastard ruins two young boys lives, and all he gets is a frigging year in prison??!! How pathetic.........well, I hope they put him in general population............he'll find out soon enough how it feels to be molested. Why don't they castrate sex offenders??? This would solve the problem and would prevent them from doing it again!! Makes perfect sense..............

JW Beliefs of Yesteryear
by Double Edge inin janh's brillant post today: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=31893&site=3 .
he mentioned that the jw's use to believe in the rapture of the saints, a belief commonly held by some mainstream christian sects.
i started to wonder "why and when did they change that belief" and "what other beliefs were held by jw's that were held by other christians, but have now completely changed?

Oh one more thing I forgot............back then everyone in the congregation got to VOTE for who they wanted as elders, which was far more democratic than the Nazi-like method they have of doing it today.
Now, of course, they try and say that each elder is "appointed by the Holy Spirit" (ya, right) but it's generally whoever is the biggest ass-kisser gets to be an elder nowaday.............

Actually, I think C.T. Russell was a bit more open-minded than Rutherford.........Russell taught that the Jews would one day return to Palestine, they used to be able to celebrate Christmas and Birthdays, In Russell's day, everyone good went to heaven, and here's a funny one: Charles Russell taught in one of his Studies in the Scriptures that according to Daniel 12:4
".......make secret the words and seal up the book until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and knowledge will become abundant."
was a prophecy about technology increasing greatly to the point where we might even be able to travel up to 50 miles per hour! While we've obviously gone far beyond that, I think it was quite interesting that he came up with that before technology really took off........of course, someone, probably Freddie Franz, added the word "true" before the word "knowledge", so that they could once again, apply it in a "spiritual" sense to themselves.
I don't think in Russell's day you had to count time, or nobody bugged you if you missed meetings.........they still had bizarre teachings, but it wasn't nearly as ridged and dismal as it is now..............

Here's the best one: In the Book of Moron.........I mean "Mormom", they teach that God Himself was at one time a man, and that it's possible for all men today to become God!!!
Anyway, it doesn't matter, you're not going to make any converts here.......besides, this is a board to discuss matters related to the JWs, NOT Mormons.........if you want to argue with anyone about your religious beliefs, why not go to an ex-Mormon site? There's plenty around :-)

I believe that there's got to be other life out there - I mean why would Jehovah create the universe with billions and billions of galaxies, and then only put life on one single little planet like earth??? Makes NO sense to me at all. Interestingly enough, even Jews today believe that God had created other life forms on other planets long before he created man (maybe as a trial and error?? who knows?)........to believe that we're the only one's around, is about the same as believing 500 years ago that the earth is the center of the universe.......

Quantum, you've GOT to be kidding..............Joseph Smith and his family were all into folk magic and the guy was probably high as a kite when he had these "visions"...........perhaps you should go to your home page on the internet, type in the words: Joseph + Smith + fraud............you'll get over 1600 hits......

Paradise Earth; An interesting Question for JWs
by badboy in.
if there is no aging in paradise earth, expail something to me.. one of the reasons we age and die is because the mitochondrial cells convert items(food???
) into energy, this produces free radicals/toxins which damage the cells, the cells have to produce these toxins to do their work.. in a paradise earth, how will the body produce the energy without damaging the body's cells.. i am interested in any answers.. .

Silly boy, what a question! What will happen, is that in the New Order, all Witnesses, one by one will be "changed" until they become "The Stepford Witnesses". Everyone will be happy, the men will either pet lions or build a new Kingdom Hall (future name: The Association) each and every day, while the women all pick fruits and veggies, smile at each other and never have to worry about PMS again!
And golly gee, if you don't believe me, just take a look in any publication by the WTB&TS!!!

Missing the Target for 125 Years!
by JanH inmissing the target for 125 years .
the organization that more than 5 million jehovah's witnesses believe to be "god's channel" of communication to mankind, is strangely also the organization with a monumental record of failed predictions.
after examining dozens of watch tower society (wts) predictions we failed to find a single one that was right.

Good post, but for the majority of Witnesses, it wouldn't make any difference to them even if they did read this, because we all know that every single time the GB has "predicted" something, and it hasn't happened (100% chance of this happening), that they use the lame excuse "the light gets brighter and brighter" as a cop-out to all their failed "prophecies".
Of course, anyone with half a brain could read that scripture "the path of the righteous one is like the light that gets brighter and brighter until the day is firmly established", as talking about the CHARACTER of a morally righteous person - it has absolutely NOTHING to do with attempted future telling like these bozos would have us believe.
Actually, there was ONE thing that Brother Russell predicted would happen and it actually did: in one of his old books written in the late 1800s, he predicted that the Jews would one day return to Palestine as the scriptures fortold (I think in Isaiah). Unfortunately, Judge Booze Rutherford hated the Jews with a passion and promptly changed that 'prophecy' to mean that "spiritual Israel" would (somehow) "return" to 'the pure faith' and looked like an asshole of the first order when the Jews did, in fact, return to Palestine in the late 1940s.............then again, he was probably too high on bathtub gin to even notice. :-)

Apostasy Unforgivable?
by professor indo witnesses teach that apostasy is an unforgivable sin?.
i was taught this by my parents.
but, i am wondering if this is a jw doctine.
-
Mary
My understanding is that the "unforgivable sin" is someone who speaks against the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that anyone who spoke against the Father or the Son, was one thing, but anyone speaking against the Holy Spirit would never be forgiven.
Of course, off the record, the Society interprets this as anyone who speaks out against THEM or their interpretation of the scriptures, even when it's shown that they are wrong. A good example is Ray Franz......to the Governing Body, he is the worst sort of "apostate" and to their warped thinking, he will never be forgiven for trying to expose the lying and deceitfulness that goes on behind closed doors............
All the Witnesses that appeared on Dateline: they're considered 'apostates' which is why half of them have been disfellowshipped........little bit of a difference between what the bible considers apostacy, and what the WTS considers to be apostacy.....

The WTS Two 'Credible' Witness Policy.......
by ISP inbelow is an excerpt from the branch letter to all congregations.. 'thus, although they investigate every allegation, the elders in not authorized by the scriptures to take congregational action unless there is a confession or there are two credible witnesses'.
it reaffirms the two witness policy.no surprise there...... but why does it say 'credible'?
witnesses are witnesses are they not?
-
Mary
"......But why does it say 'credible'? Witnesses are witnesses are they not?......"
Oh good lord, NO! This letter is written in code. If you're accusing an elder of being a pedophile then only the following would be considered 'credible' witnesses:
Jehovah, Jesus, maybe some of the angels, District Overseers, Circuit Overseers, Missionaries, Regular Pioneers, some Auxilary Pioneers, if they kiss enough ass.
Witnesses that are NOT credible are as follows:
anyone below the rank of elder or elders' wife; someone who's 'only' a publisher who gets less than 10 hours of service in each month, anyone who misses more than 2 meetings per year, anyone who has education beyond high school, anyone who lets their kids go to college, anyone who has an IQ higher than Forrest Gump.
