not sure if you remember me but i have posted here a few times and i read the boards whenever i get a chance (not very often now because baby no.

i have a question for you all reguarding my cousin-in-law, hope you can help me.

he is baptised but fell in love with a worldy girl and was pretty much living with her for a year but still attending meeting (the old double-life).

I guess he really wants a way to get out and stay out. I think his logic is that if he is disfellowshipped he won't have to bother with the people in his town who know he was a witness and feel it necessary to pressure him. He also constantly worries that they will find out that he was living "in sin" before he was married but if he is disfellowshipped then what will they care if they do find out? I don't think he is too worried about his parents because they live so far away and he has little contact with them since the wedding anyway....

I have a question for you all reguarding my cousin-in-law, hope you can help me. He is baptised but fell in love with a worldy girl and was pretty much living with her for a year but still attending meeting (the old double-life). He has since married her and has faded himself out. This was pretty easy because once he got married he moved to the other side of town and I am not sure if the elders know where he lives now. His parents are very strict but live a long way away so they don't know what is going on but they do know that he no longer attends.

Is he officially disassociated but simply fading or would he have to make some kind of formal announcement/declairation? Also, he spends a lot of time looking over his shoulder, worried that he will run into an elder who will put the pressure on to return and maybe find out about his double-life. He says he wants to be out for good and will never go back. But, how can he stop the do-gooders from trying to get to him? He once said to me that it would be easier if he was disfellowshipped because then he knows they would not bother him anymore.

What is the best thing for him to do? Also, can he be disfellowshipped while he is inactive or would he have to return first? So, if he stays away, can they still kick him out?

Hi Nathan

They simply don't return it and when the library chases them they pay the replacement costs and do the same thing all over again when the next copy comes in. While ever they are doing this the book is out of circulation and their work is done!!!

Hey Beck - I'm in Brisbane (and it's bloody hot today!)

Hope you manage to get hold of a copy - I just went to a council library and ordered it from another branch. There is only one copy in the system up here. Not surprisingly there are no copies of Franz - the librarian told me that everytime they get a copy in someone (probably a JW) takes it out and never returnes it! Talk about censorship!

Yes, I have read this - it touches a bit on MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) which I think takes away from the issue. It's not bad - quite harrowing and pretty funny in places. Written by an Australian woman - worth the read but like I said, I have a problem with the whole MPD thing so it was not earth-shattering for me.

i believe the watchtower has all "watchtower" and "awake" from the beginning available on cd-rom.

how can i get hold of one and can we be sure that entries have not been changed to suit todays teachings - ala "big brother" and the "ministry of truth"?

i would love to get a copy of this... any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice guys! I don't think I will be joining the Borg just to get a CD, however - I would not last very long as I am a smoking, swearing hard-core atheist!!!!!

I might contact Brooklyn but I am a bit worried I wil be hassled to have a bible study or suddenly get a flock of JW's at my door!!! Maybe someone with one would be willing to burn a copy for me? If there is a copyright issue(?), I will find another way....

I'm New - my story

hi everyone, i too have been lurking for a few weeks and thought it was time i made myself known.

i am not a jw but i am married to a man who is from a multi-generational family of jw's (although he has not been to meetings since he was old enough to object).

although i have never had any direct involvement with the organisation itself, i find my life is constantly infulenced by these people who judge, shun and avoid my husband and i (i guess they don't want to mix with "worldy people" such as us).

Thanks for your comments and welcome. My first instinct is to jump right into a debate about "happy accidents" and thermodynamics as I have done so many times before, but these discussions often become heated and I don't think this is correct forum - I get a real sence of live and let live here and a respect for beliefs of all kind and I would like to perpetuate these sentements. So, thanks again and I look forward to more of the same....
