I'm New - my story

Hi everyone, I too have been lurking for a few weeks and thought it was time I made myself known. I am not a JW but I am married to a man who is from a multi-generational family of JW's (although he has not been to meetings since he was old enough to object). Although I have never had any direct involvement with the organisation itself, I find my life is constantly infulenced by these people who judge, shun and avoid my husband and I (I guess they don't want to mix with "worldy people" such as us). Unless, of course, they want something, or it suits their purposes to contact us. This is the kind of constant double standard that, franky, pisses me off about these people. My husband has 2 baptised sister (1 disfellowshiped and busting her arse to get back in) and 2 baptised brothers (1 not attending since he married a "worldly girl"). Three other brothers are in but not baptised. Still, his family would sooner believe bad of my husband than any of the other because he refused to be a hipocrite and go along with something he never believed in.

I was reading a thread before about gossip - well I could not agree more!!!! All the brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles are CONSTANTLY talking behind each others back and they seem to delight in each others misfortunes and failures. They are always trying to outdo each other! Although - I must point out here that not ALL of this family are like that, some of them are wonderful people who are very caring and respectful. To the rest it's just a game of seeing who is the favourite with the "heads" of the family. This family is large and includes elders, circut overseers, pioneers, DF's DA's - the whole spectrum!!!

There are so many stories here that I can relate to and have seen example of within my family group. I have had a hard time being accepted because I am a hard-core atheist and I have had to learn to bite my tounge sometimes. I used to try to reason and talk to some of these people but I was alarmed at just how blind and brainwashed they are! They can stare a fact in the face and REFUSE to admit it because it's outside of the teachings of the Org. I find this very difficult to tollerate so now I try to avoid the issues unless they witness to me directly - then I let 'em have it both barrels!!!

I read alot here about people who have turned to Christian beliefs after leaving - how many have questioned the every existance of God himself after leaving? There seems to be a spiritual "aftermath" once people leave.....

Thank you very much for allowing me to vent and I look forward to joining in with you discussions.

hmm, 10 readers and not one person has said hi. Oh well, I guess I'll have to be the first.

Hello and welcome to the board, and having the courage to finally speak up.

I was born and raised a JW here in Oz. I drifted away a few years ago, but I'm not da'd nor df'd. I can understand that it would be hard for an outsider to fully understand what life is like for a JW, although through your husband you would have seen quite alot.

    Anyway, welcome again!

    Judith,

Welcome to the discussion board!! We look forward to your future contributions. It's interesting to see how the "tentacles" of the organization can sting, even when not a member....

    Judith,

Thanks for sharing, and welcome! Your family group sounds very much like mine. I am also from a multi-generational JW family and I was the one to walk away.

As for your query about questioning the existance of God upon exiting the faith .... My experience was a little different. For as long as I was associated with JW's I questioned the existance of God .. because so may of their teachings were illogical. It wasn't until after my exodus that I became conviced that there is some power greater than myself that is taking good and gentle care of me and mine. I am NOT religious ... and I would not call myself Christian ... but I do now believe in the existance of a Supreme Being/Universal Force/Higher Power/God.

Welcome to den. I'm sorry to hear about you having to even put up with the JW. As for god after the Borg. I think there are allot of different beliefs here but I'm very impressed to see everyone so tolerant of each other. I think after being a JW you realize that intolerance is the root of all evil. I really started questioning my beliefs when the elders could not logically tell me the difference between the WTS and the Pope. I think everyone here can agree that we all hate Hypocrites and JW are notorious for being hypocritacal.

Dear Lord, please save me from your followers.

Prisca, Not all of us are party animals and allnighters like you.

    Hi Judith,

    Welcome to this board!

I am a non-and-neverbeen-JW like you. The answer to your question if there is God upon exiting the Borg is YES!!!

You see, the JWs don't follow what the word of God says, they know what the word of God says, but they follow what the WatchTower Society and the elders say. That is a major sin: Knowing what is right and not doing it.

Despite all their talk that they believe that the Bible is the Word of God and the Word of God is the Will of God, they rather read and study the WatchTower and Awake magazines rather than read and study the bible by itself.

God exists, it is just that cults like the JWs are not exactly putting God in charge, they put their man-made organization at the helm of their lives believing that they speak for God.

So, Judith. Yes, God exists, but you don't need an man-made organization to speak for him. He clearly speaks for himself.

Now it is up to you if you want to seek God or not. You have the freedom to choose as he is not a dictator like the WatchTower Society or Reverend Moon and other cults.

    Hugs,

    Ajax

    Hi Judith!

I appreciate you being here on this forum. It's a unique insight into the goings on of JWs from an "outsider's" or "worldly" person's perspective.

    Hey, Prisca!

hmm, 10 readers and not one person has said hi.

Sometimes one doesn't have the time to post a welcome reply the first time through a thread.

    Hello, Judith!

    Welcome to the Board!
I had almost 30 years of involvement in some form or another with the Witnesses before I became an adult convert and then left 11 yrs later.
I disassociated myself in March of last year.

I'm an American female, married to a never-been-a-JW, and with 4 kids upon whom I inflicted this religion and its strictures until about 3 years ago. Fortunately, they are not too scarred, never having taken the Borg as seriously as their mother.

I hope you'll find it interesting and helpful to join in the discussions here, Judith.
