I remember during one of our spring cleanings an older brother volunteered to mow the lawn. He went around back and when he came back into the front he had no shirt on. The moobs were strong with this one. Elder yelled at him "Brother G! Put your shirt back on!"

Funny experiences while a JW
by donny indo any of you have any funny experiences while you were part of the jw machine?
back around 1986 i was the ministerial servant in charge of running the sound board in the kingdom hall for our congregation.
we were the last ones to meet in the hall on weekdays (friday) and the first ones to meet on sunday.

At what point in the story did WT get it wrong, went off at a tangent?
by prologos inlooking at the bible narrative now, with open mind, the talking snake and all, it is a poorly contrived story.
all these clever people picking up and adding to the thread, the fabric its intriguing, certainly a valued literary work.
fiction.. using this story wt has woven another, parallel account that you would expect to harmonize with it, and hopefully attempt to connect with reality.. in your thinking, where did wt become unhinged, drifted off into total detachment?.

It is funny that when it comes to birthdays and holidays they want you to look at the origin. They use the example in the Babble Teach book that if you found a piece of candy in the gutter, you wouldn't clean it off and eat it. Yet, for some reason, we aren't allowed to look at the origin of the WT.

I know this sounds crazy but, what if?
by earthfire inso i've been thinking about my jw family members a lot lately, especially since i just saw them a couple of weeks ago at my youngest sisters wedding.
with all the current animosity towards apostates that seems to be more aggressive than usual it hit me when i saw this posted on fb today.
would it be possible for the gb to demand that jw's kill apostates?

MrFreeze
Ha! No they wouldn't do that. The JW religion is not about the Bible. It's about controlling people and making money.

Since you've left, are you still good friends with your bestest JW buddies?
by Julia Orwell inis it possible that someone has a jw friend who's very active in the congregation, knows you don't believe it anymore, and is still your friend?
i'm at the point where word is getting out that i'm not going to meetings anymore, and friends ask me if they'll be seeing me at the ca and i tell them i'm not going.
they want to know why, and what they can do to encourage me.

I still talk to a couple of them. Occasionally see them, maybe have a meal or a drink with them. The problem is I actually like them so I don't want to let them go. They must think there is still a chance to get me back to meetings or they would have not bothered with me anymore I think.

[endif]i had a diner with the neighbors... they don't know i'm a jw cause i don't tell people anymore about it.
somehow, the topic of cults came up and one of my neighbors said that the jw require 10% of their income to go to the church.

I feel the same way you do. I'm all for Jehovah's Witness religion bashing but I like it to be based on The Truth. (Get it, The Truth, did you see what I did there?)

"Do not be called teachers"--Doesn't Jesus OUTLAW all organized religion?
by humbled injw's and other churches all set up housekeeping in different theological areas.
some one person can't believe any more what their church is saying, gets a different "take" on god, and......starts trying to convince others to follow them and everything they teach.. nothing new about that.
but why are so many of us blind to this scenario: we allow that some people get to contemplate other thoughts and others are not allowed.only some lead and everyone else must follow or be thrown out.

Isidore, Pascal's Wager is the most flawed reason for religious belief that there is.
You missed the point of what I said. There is no more reason to believe that Vishnu or Zeus exists than there is the Judeo-Christian god.

Ok ladies help me out, coupons, does it make sense to spend $5. in gas to save .50 cents?
by jam inbecause it is on sale doesn,t mean it,s a saving, 5lbs of.
prunes is not a good deal.

If you are going to spending the money on it anyway, then it makes sense. Otherwise, don't go out of your way.

New Rooming Arrangement for some district conventions in the UK - what are they up to?
by 88JM inso i missed this letter below being read out last week - i got a look at it from the notice board this week.. from what i heard, this announcement was not received entirely positively as such, but there were apparently one or two for who this is a bit annoying.. staying at hotels for the district convention is nothing new here - many are used to staying at the same hotel/b&b/campsite every year, and get quite friendly with the owners.
but this year, it looks like not only do we have a new location for our district assembly (glasgow - the s.e.c.c.?
) but we are being told what hotel to stay at, supposedly to make things cheaper.. what i can't understand is, if this is really for the benefit of people, why didn't they do this years ago?
-
MrFreeze
The JW's tell you what to wear after assemblies, what hotels/motels to use, what food to bring, how to behave in hotels, not to leave convention site for lunch, not to buy from vendors outside the convention site, be in your site before the musical interlude. Yup, they sure don't micro manage. Not one bit. Can't leave anything up to the faithful.
Jehovah can trust the rank and file with delivering the important life-saving message, but can't trust JW's to come back to the convention when they go somewhere else for lunch.

600 people up and left the DC after the 'apostate' talk?
by Julia Orwell inan 'apostate' inactive jw in america i know on facebook went to the dc and said fully 600 people left between the end of the apostate talk and the lunch break.
have any of you who also went to the dc seen something like this happen?
.

MrFreeze
The Truth should be able to stand up to all scrutiny.
I listened to that talk and I have to say, according to the talk, the apostates have little to do with drawing away from Jehovah, but drawing away from the organization. That should flow up a red flag.
