I love the reactions of people on this thread. Due to a few wackos, bomb a whole country. And you thought the religious nutjobs were violent, hate-mongering wackos? Not that I agree with the killing done by these nut jobs. Why disrespect by burning the book?

I don't belong here anymore
by sizemik inthese are some things i have been thinking about .
.. when i first found this site i registered immediately ... never was a "lurker" ... and i've been here about six months.. everyone was very warm welcoming and i felt at home very quickly ... very pleasant at the time, but as time has progressed i look back and feel a bit "love-bombed" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.. i have found that this site is a bit "cliquey" ... groups of posters frequent at similar times and enjoy their familiarity with each other and that's great ... but they also sometimes exhibit a coolness toward those outside their clique ... almost as if your 'post count' is the first thing by which you are "judged" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.
some posters develop a personal dislike for others and not only jump on their threads but even deliver the odd "slap" on unrelated threads to increase the discomfort for the object of their dislike ... not unlike a religion i once belonged to.. some posters even follow others around the board looking to counter or use snide or clever put downs at every opportunity ... a kind of intellectual "rivalry" that was common to those in that religion i used to belong to.. many posters like to use 'in-house' jargon and labels eg; "newbies" for those recently joined.

I agree with a lot of what you said.
However, you will find what you noted in just about every forum.

The classic features of a JW wedding are:
by highdose infirstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).
the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.
the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.

Isn't the wedding supposed to be a special day? There was only one JW wedding I enjoyed. It was a multi-cultural wedding so some different things got thrown in. It wasn't just the same thing as all the other weddings. Also, I brought a flask. That helped.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 04-03-2011 WT Study (TRIAL)
by blondie inface persecution?.
helped to resist peer pressure.
(a) why can we expect to face trials and.

MrFreeze
You just know the WT loves to flaunt the persecution like with Malawai. They think it makes them look good or special. They enjoy the suffering of their members. In all reality, it makes them look stupid. Think about what an outsider would say "it's just a 25 cent political card, why wouldn't you buy it?" It just makes the WT look dumb dumb dumb.

They really are pooping their pants over these latest "signs"...
by undercover ini've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

I am out
by lifeisgood ini don't post in discussion forums very much.. i joined this one a week or two ago, don't remember exactly.. tried to start a few threads to have real discussions.. but, instead of having real discussions, idiots just came in and posted childish nonsense.. so, i'm out..

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can't handle debate, why are you trying to debate the two most volatile explosive debates, politics and religion?

State your "epiphany moment " for leaving the WT
by caliber ini have found some powerful reinforcements when people have stated their " epiphany moment "... please share some.. my turning pointing began when i was badly hurt by a person i had always viewed as a literal brother.
i realized that if his.
love was conditional.... if it was the case with him , then how about those i had less affection for and trust in ?.

I haven't really had my heart in it for years. I went through the motions, mainly to please my mom. I told the elders I couldn't reg pioneer anymore. Before one meeting they said "can you stay after the meeting so we can talk about you coming off the pioneer list". I realized that those people didn't care about my circumstances. I worked full time. I could not pioneer. I couldn't reasonably get the hours. I had been putting in maybe 2 hours per month. I put maybe 10 or 12 on my slip. They still wanted me to pioneer. It was all for appearances in the congregation. During the meeting, I pondered over the talk I would have with the elders about me coming off the list during that meeting. I started to feel sick to my stomach. I decided to let it all out to them. I did and I have not been back to the Kingdom Hall since.
I thank them for not leaving well enough alone. It prompted me to action. I am so glad I left. Towards the end of my JW tenure, it would make me sick to my stomach to be at the meetings. I grew to hate the meetings and myself for living this lie and wasted life. I hate this religion.

Have You Ever Experienced Depression?
by minimus inmy mom does and has every ailment under the sun.. i know more people that are under meds for depression than not.. fortunately, i do not suffer from depression but i wonder how many do or have, especially if you were a witness..
-
MrFreeze
I think I may have clinical depression. Some of my family suffers from it. I've never taken any meds. I have had panic attacks before. You can't really describe it unless you have experienced it.

you have become the thing you hated.
by TheJigsUp ini was reading a thread on here the other day, and it occured to me.
the very thing i have claimed in the title.. reading you all bickering over a certain subject.
i assumed that some of you are only here to genuinely to create arguments, and i saw that some are genuinely lost and some of you dont believe they are lost but they are.. i saw you judging your fellow posters as if you knew something, but truth be told none of us do.

I try to respect others opinions, no matter how much I disagree. It's not my job to persuade you. Everyone must walk their own path. I'm here to walk mine. If you don't like that, then smooch my behind.
