We used to live in Beaverton, but moved out of the area in 1998. My son still lives in Portland, though, and I spend a couple of weeks out there every year. I miss Oregon!

Did John Denver hate Jehovah's Witnesses?
by free2beme inmy mother once told me a story of how john denver supposedly hated jehovah's witnesses more then life itself.
my legend, these are two examples i heard while in the witnesses .... 1. at a john denver concert, he once asked all jehovah's witnesses in the audience to leave.. 2. johnny carson once asked him if he did this, and when he said he did, johnny carson asked him to leave the show in rehearsal and re-booked someone else.. ... awhile back i started looking on the internet for information on this and could not see any proof of this and wondered if anyone ever heard this before or was it just something that was in our area.
i have a feeling it is something others heard of.

What about the Glen Campbell rumors? Apparently, he did study with the Witnesses for a very short time. But I remember how everyone in my congregation was really excited because a certain family from our congregation had gone to the district assembly in Houston and had watched him being baptized. They even took pictures, and people could hardly wait until they got home. Well ... turns out that not only hadn't they seen GC baptized (he was never baptized), they hadn't even gone to Houston. They were visiting their daughter in another state. They were dumbfounded when people practically attacked them asking for pictures of GC. :D How these rumors get started is beyond me. The Witnesses are the absolute worst at spreading them, too. My brother, who's a CO, was and still is a huge John Denver fan. He went to a couple of concerts and so did his friends. If John Denver ever did something like that, he didn't do it at any of the concerts people I know went to.

Cannabis vs Alchohol and Other Man Made Pharmacuticals
by OpenFireGlass inwell for starters i do have a prescription for cannabis (insomnia / depression).... why would i want to take pharmacuticals for insomnia/depression?
i mean, what if i get prescribed/addicted to a pill, that one day i might not be able to afford?
(if you/i grow cannabis it's more/less free)... now the moral issue... who is more likely to beat the shit out of their kids?

I've suffered from insomnia and depression for many, many years. I've been on several different antidepressants over the years, and I've tried everything for my insomnia--from biofeedback to prescription meds to acupunture. The only thing that really helps me fall asleep is weed. Because I use it right before I go to bed (in bed, actually), I don't have to worry about munchies because it knocks me out in about 20 minutes to half an hour. It hasn't harmed my motivation--just the opposite, in fact, because when I'm more rested I have more energy to devote to work and home projects. I've never been able to smoke (my lungs hate it), so I bought a vaporizer, and it works great. I can use a smaller amount of "product" than otherwise, too, which is good because it is pricey. No aftereffects. No hangover the next morning, and no drowsiness like I get some sleep medications. Yeah, alcohol can put you to sleep, too, but the older I get the worse I feel after I drink too much, not to mention the calories, the effects on blood sugar, chances of harming your liver, etc., etc. I think it's completely hypocritical that cigarettes (a known addictive substance that kills its users) are legal and alcohol is, but pot isn't. It's stupid, and the amount of money spent fighting the "war on drugs" and the number of people in our prisons for this "crime" is insupportable. Legalize pot, and life would be a lot better for everyone concerned. But I bet the big pharmaceutical companies wouldn't like that much, would they?

Talk about showing your age. Wait until you hear this one. My mom was a teenager in LA back in the 1940s--just converting to the religion. Nelson Eddie, who was a HUGE star back then, started studying and going to meetings at a neighboring congregation. He liked the religion, but he got so disgusted with the way the brothers fawned all over him that he stopped studying. For those of you who have never heard of them, Nelson Eddie and Jeanette McDonald were big matinee idols in the 30s and 40s. My parents loved them, and I grew up listening to their records. :-) http://jukief.blogspot.com/ Alan's parents gave us a cassette tape. On one side it has Fred Franz singing Kingdom Melodies (what a hoot) and on the other side Nelson Eddie singing Kingdom Melodies. Guess who was a better singer? :D
