some of you may know that my parents were expected for "dinner" on thanksgiving day.
well i really don't think its going to happen now.
i called my dad last night becuase my mother, now visiting my kids in south texas and bringing them here to see me, said they had "stuff to do on thursday".
Valis,
Sorry to hear of your troubles. I always enjoy reading your posts. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving anyway!!!!!

okay, okay, i know we haven't even gotten thru thanksgiving yet, but my inner child is getting excited about it.
me too!!! Yesterday I took some of my pictures off my wall and wrapped them up in Christmas wrapping paper with bows and ribbons and then hung them back up. they look like presents and add alot to Xmas decorating.

even when i was a jw i thought it odd that witnesses gave so much importance to holidays.
when i was studying, i was bogged down with how awful they were because they are pagan and how wrong it was to celebrate.
it seems to me like more attention was donated to the issue of holidays than what the meat of christianity is.
Wing commander,
JW's make celebrating holidays as evil as lying , slander and adultery. Its ridiculous. When I was a JW I remember discussions about people who left the org and gasp they celebrated Christmas ! It was like the worst thing they could do. EVEN as a witness I was surprised by such ignorance. Jesus taught LOVE and tolerance. Remember those that felt superior becaause of what they would NOT EAT because they thought it was UNCLEAN? They missed the point, as do JW's,and as do you Wing Commander. Your words do sound as if you have the heart of a pharisee. Your all about law ! And worse yet its not law from the bible but from the Org!!!!

well last week i got my first real shun.
most the time it would be people i know, they would just look away or pretend i wasn't there, you know not really a person anymore.
last week it happen, this time with someone who was one of my best friends.
Hi New Boy,
It gets easier !!! In time it will hurt less and less. I went to beauty school with a sister from my hall after I DA'd myself. Some sisters would come to the school to get their hair done by her. It depended on how close I was as to wether or not it bothered me. Now it doesn't bother me a bit. I see JW's from time to time at the store or out and about and I don't alter my course a bit. I haven't ever tried to say hi to see what reaction I might get . I am curious but not quite brave eneough to try that out.

INSTEAD, being a good and faithful JW the focus was on following a list of no no's . If you didn't do or participate in certain no no's than you are more superior than people who do.
The priorities are really mixed up. Do you think that Jesus would be upset by giving presents and celebrating Christmas? I really don't think so. I think he would be upset by rules of man coming before love.
just my 2cents

while i'm not a regular as much as i used to be (maybe get to the hall 10 times a year), i always give praise and thanks to jehovah and his son jesus as requested in the bible on the appropriate day.
i have never missed a memorial.
whether or not i agree with everything the gb or watchtower puts out or says, is irrelevant.
I agree with you as well. Most everyone seems to go buy a special dress just for the occasion and IMO are overdressed. BUT.................... What else do JW's have to get excited about ? There are no holdays to get dressed up for as well as any other occasion (like proms ect.) I see it as one day the young girls can buy a special dress! The JW world is so full of no no's for fun and frivolousness that I'm surprised someone hasn't put an end to this this.

i have small children.
i was raised a witness, so i never celebrated holidays.
now, i don't go to meetings, don't agree that the watchtower is jehovahs sole channel of communication.
Hi
I came into the org when my kids were infants. They never celebrated and I thought they handled it fine. We had I love you parties and my kids got gifts . BUT it didn't replace Christmas. I left a year and a half ago when they were 12 & 11 . We celebrated for the first time. My youngest said she always hoped we'd celebrate. They were soooooo excited. They even talked about Santa even though they knew he wasn't real and were kindof old for that. Guess they wanted that fun too. I had no idea that they how much it meant to them. I feel so much guilt!!! Its one of my biggest regrets about being a Witness. I wasn't raised a JW and Christmas is very special for kids. Its your decision but I have to say let them celebrate! Its cruel to be in the middle. They have no foundation or strong beliefs for being different and missing out. If your going to live like a witness then be a witness, at least your kids will get hogwash reasons why they are missing out and have to be different. Sorry to be hard on this issue but I strongly feel its a mistake you'll regret later on .
jurs.
i was invited to be a guest speaker at the saturday night aa speaker's meeting.
this meeting usually has a large crowd and they get somebody with longtime sobriety to come up and tell his story of "what i used to be like, what happened, and what i'm like now" as an example for others.
i'll have eight years in january, so i guess that makes me fairly longtime.. i told them:.
COMF,
I enjoyed your post very much as I'm sure your AA audience did. I chuckled over how field service solves all problems ! I think only a JW can appreciate that you are in no way exaggerating that absurd concept!

things are warming up this side of the pacific as we approach the summer season, so it's good to have a little relax and a nice cuppa.
time also to think of our poll for the weekend.
are you ready?
#2 and #11
I hoped they wouldn't be home and I rarely prepared so I would be thinking of what I was going to say.
