Yep, sure - next time! It's on microfilm at State Library, some local/uni libraries may have, too. I'll check if Wollongong has it.

I wonder how 'God' is being generous to those children starving around the world right now, or to those children being sexually abused, or to the people who have just found out they have an incurable disease ...

Do You Know Of Malcontent ExJWs That Bitch About Life Because.....?
by minimus inthey were jws and blame everything on their jw past???
i know of people that never tried to get ahead or prosper themselves because they were witnesses.
never bought a house or a brand new car because they would rather rent and drive around in a jalopy that would break down.

mmm - I don't actually know any moaning, bitching LOSERS (horrible word) - unless I am one! I figure that I lost 6 years of my adult life to the WTS & that is 6 years I am never going to get back. I am 6 years behind most people my age financially, career-wise, relationship-wise. It sux. I don't sit around moaning about it (only sometimes ...)
But for older Witnesses like a couple I know who sold their house, went window cleaning etc for 20 years because they really believed in it, unlike those Witnesses who buy houses & go on holidays & are only serving time, it is a very different thing & I think they have a right to bitch a little ...

Smart JWs
by greendawn inmost of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.
to them it is a social club not a religion.
have you seen or heard anything on this?
-
JW83
Yes, definitely! My best friend in the org is like that - she doesn't really believe it, goes to uni, is a pretty independent woman, but still lives at home (she's about 25 now) and her family & friends are lovely, so she stays ...

Did You Ever Think You'd No Longer Be A Witness?
by minimus indid you ever dream that you'd be posting here too?
-
JW83
I was raised in it too & thought I was a better Witness than my family! I was suckered right in, & I believed in it pretty much until after my last meeting, when I just walked out the door & never went back in. By that stage I thought I couldn't live forever in paradise with JWs (I'd rather kill myself) and I thought Jehovah was a BAD GOD! It only took a few weeks before I was a huge apostate, though. It must have been lying under the surface my whole life.

This is taken from Daily Telegraph, Sydney, 22.9.42, after a convention had not been allowed to go ahead.
Mrs Inez Stoop, a JWs tract distributor, said yesterday: 'Do not ask me why the conference was not held. You are from a newspaper, and all newspapers and their reporters are of the Devil. You will be burned in eternal flames when the Day of Judgment arrives. Away from my sight, for you are unworthy to loosen the latchet of my shoes.'
Mrs Stoop was accompanied by a small man with a parcel of tracts.
He said in a high-pitched voice: 'Who pays you to torment us? I know. Money from Russia - that's what it is. It's all prophesied in Daniel.'
Mrs Stoop brushed the small man aside and said: 'Bide your peace. Our time is not yet come.'

by JW83 inthis information is taken from thesis by peter strawhan, 1984, re jws in australia in ww2.

jws contributed 10,000 to war bonds from cash accumulated during ban, reported to knorr july 1943. rees: ?of course the fact that we took out the bonds has not been publicized, but we have seen to it that the government officials such as security, army, manpower, etc, know of it.

Hi, sorry, I did send a pm to sf.
Rees is Phillip D Rees, head of WT in Aus from about 1944. Peter Strawhan's thesis is the property of Flinders University, SA, & you can purchase a copy for about $70. He also wrote an article published in 'Historical Studies', Vol 21, No 85, October 1985, pp 550-564, entitled 'The Closure of Radio 5KA, January 1941', which may be available online (but definitely through university lending) but doesn't add anything. The archives he referenced have to be viewed physically - they are in South Australia. That is what historians are for!! ;)
Hope this helps!

Are the Demons Really Everywhere?
by professor inour witness family was obsessed with demonism.. at a very early age, i was introduced to strange stories of demonism.
a brother in the congregation had brought home a souvenier doll from a tropical island as a gift for his daughter.
the daughter would talk about how the doll would come to life, but the stories were dismissed and attributed to the child's imagination.

I remember my dad always telling a story about a bible study he went on, where the (witchy) couple had a mask or something on the wall, & when he (or someone!) touched it, it was hot. And we all believed it!
