A holiday first
by corpusdei inlast night, for the first time in the almost 15 years since i ripped myself free of that gods beshitted cult, i got to hand out halloween candy to little kids trick-or-treating.
makes being a new homeowner that much more awesome.
halloween.

All alone in the night
by corpusdei inhumanity is a very lonely species.
we aren't unique in our ability to experience loneliness, by any means, there are many animals the world over that form and depend on groups for security and community.
what sets us apart, the fundamental irony that makes us so alone is the scope of our capacity for loneliness.

Idle question about Abraham and Human Sacrifice
by corpusdei ini don't have my usual resources in front of me, so i can't fact check this, but there's been something bothering me.
one of the things mentioned quite often as evidence of the wickedness and evil practices of the false religion that surrounded ancient israel is the practice of child sacrifice (baal and molech being the frontrunners as i recall).
but ...... didn't god tell abraham to kill his own son isaac as a human sacrifice?

Hypocricy of JW stance on shunning those disfellowshipped from the congregation?
by corpusdei ini was doing some research on an tangentally related topic when i came across this gem, from the 7/1/1986 watchtower, in a paragraph discussing the cost of integrity:.
certainly when a person becomes a christian witness of jehovah, he suddenly finds out who are his true friends.
some will perhaps shun or boycott him because he has abandoned his former religion, even though they themselves do not practice any religion properly.

I'm sorry I knocked on your door
by corpusdei inthey say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
nowhere is that more evident, i think, than in the kingdom hall.
like so many others that i knew, i thought the watchtower society had it right, that their answers were the correct ones.

Judas and Unforgivable Sin
by corpusdei ini'll be the first to admit that i haven't done the research on this one, and i can't remember the answer from my jw days - but there's something bothering me about the scenario of judas and his betrayal of jesus.. considering that the betrayal of jesus by judas was foretold in prophecy, it was essentially set in stone.
it was going to happen, it was an absolute because divine prophecy is correct.
judas had to betray jesus in order to fulfil prophecy.. now, i've always personally believed that a person does not sin by an act that they cannot avoid, but this seems like kind of the motherload of standing on the traintracks.

WT Article: What Should Children Learn
by corpusdei ini was just perusing the latest watchtower (available here) and noticed something that made me chuckle a little.
in one of the first articles talking about what children should learn, they quote exodus 22:22-24:.
what the bible teaches: you people must not affliict any... fatherless boy.

Analysis: Did God Condone the Slave Trade
by corpusdei inthis is an analysis of an article published by the watchtower bible and tract society, entitled "did god condone the slave trade".
of necessity (and partly because of my tendency to ramble) i do go beyond the article itself into a wider exploration of the subject matter in places.
the article itself can be found on the wtbts website, here, and a pdf version can be found here.
