Peacedog - You realize you're asking a cultist to contradict his cult masters, right?
Yes I do, but the question is does Debator know that?
years ago before i took the time and effort to study logic and argumentation, i went to a market and bought some toothpaste.
it was a little-known brand and it touted "baking soda" as its magic ingredient.
it was also cheaper than the name-brand toothpastes and that helped me in my decision.

Debator - The WT does not harmonize with the bible, they don't even have Bible studies. They have book or magazine studies. If you were to read Moby Dick, and while doing so you used a dictionary to look up a few words, would you then claim to be studing the dictionary? Well thay is what the WT does, they study their own publications and use the Bible as a reference book to "prove what they wrote". It is not honest schollarship to look at one sentence from one book, another sentence from another book(at times from differant authors) and say they are talking about one subject, or that they are proving anything the WT says. Why does the WT publish very few commentaries? - Because their teachings can not stand up when a Bible book is read/"studied" in context. I know the Wt has had a few but they were/are more humorous than anything else. Please be honest do you truely your whole heart, mind, soul, and spirit believe that the trumpet blasts in Revelation are refering to speaches given by the WT in an Ohio convention? Please answer that question, don't tell me that "we don't believe that anymore" or some other off the topic answer just answer it yes or no.
That will tell us a lot about your purported honesty
the november 2010 awake (the atheist issue) has a ypa article that seems strange to me.
it is about whether or not a kid should drop out of school.
the way that it's written makes it seem that dropping out of school, (not college) is ok under some circumstances.
baltar - I don't think anyone is over reacting, they are using Orewllian 'doublespeak". They say don't drop out of school but they then say to do so to do volenteer work(pioneering) is honorable. They never said spicificaly the end would be here in 1975, in those words, but they implied it would. They have a way out if questioned, but they would rejoyce if thousands of their youth would quit school and sell mags. They would play that up so much - "Look at the young ones, let them encourage other young ones", "the time is so close that even our youth see the need." etc...
I think this needs to be sent to every school superintendant, the Dept. of Edu., and possably even the UN council on education, just as a heads up as to the way the WT may be heading. Even if it does not amount to much it would put another well needed bad light on the WT.
i have always liked gray goose but i am working on some "belvedere" that is nice.. anyone got a favorite vodka?.
I use vodka to mix, although i am a whiskey and scotch fan. I never really tried vodka alone, is it really good that way? I like a good smooth taste, and I don't drink beer at all(Please don't hate me!) I just never developed a taste for beer. So honestly if I were to try vodka straight up, what should I try?
before i tell you my story i just want to say thank you to everyone on this forum for their sometimes funny, and sometimes sad, and sometimes very thought provoking posts, it has helped me a lot.. my family, which consists of a younger brother and a younger sister and my parents.
we began studying with the jw's as a family (mother's insistence) in the mid 1980's.. i was then 13, my sister 12, my brother 7, my mother thought she found the answer to all life's problems and became fully brainwashed, and hence if we wanted to be a happy family we had to all become jw's, and so because we were young and mainly to keep our mother happy we all became jw's.. all i can say is my parents life might have been, happier but mine was far from happy.
i left home as soon as i could i was 16.. my sister at 18 got married to a jw, and they bought a house and settled in to married life, when my sister had her first child at 19 her son was 6 weeks old when my parents moved into their home for a few weeks, while their new home was ready to move into.. during their stay in my sisters home they all got on really well despite a small house and no room to move.
That is so sad, your poor sister, and yes the children. Contrary to popular beliefe, aur actions do affect others.
As to your mom lying, the elders don't care. Even if the congragation asks the elders about it all they have to say is there was not two witness to the rape so they could not act upon it so they are covered. And as long as people are gossiping, lying, and slandering, as long as it does not insult the org., they don't care. It keeps the R&F minds off the lies from the borg.
Hugs to you and your sister, please continue to be a safe place for her and the children when they need it.
theres recently an article in a uk newspaper about a small boy whose family are at their wits end.
it seems he will just run amok, create chaos and danger.
hes been permently excluded from school because of hes terrible behaviour.
In the 60's Dr. B. Spock wrote that if you spank a child they learn violence which leads to more violent crime. So spanking was reduced and the violent crime rate plumited -Oops no it didn't, it went up.
Spanking is not violence, beating out of anger, hatred or selfishness is. Used only when nessasary, and along with age appropriate council spanking is useful and does not harm a child.

Farkel - Great example and great thread, logic is something missing in dub land.
Mary - I really enjoy reading your 'experiences" I wish I had the calm natuer your have when dealing with them. I don't raise my voice or call names as that is not my nature. However I do get frustrated and tend to just drop the subject. But reading yours and many others posts do help in my framing some responces. Thanks to all of you
i bet people has forgotten me but thats ok because i know they have helped me a lot on here.. .
anyways i think the last time i been on here i mentioned my jw sister not going to my wedding.
for those that do remember my story, the wedding was beautiful on the beach in key west, fl!
Please understand that right now they will show you love even if limited for now. They will make you think that this is the way it will always be. Do not be mislead, after you are reinstated ynu will be placed back on that treadmill of nothing is ever enough, with the "carrot" of eternal life dangled before you. They haven't changed, I am not trying to change you mind I just want you to realize what your in for. Please keep us informed, because if they really are changing that could be a good thing and we would like to know. I wish you all the best in your journey.
good news!.
the dutch kingdom ministry shows the following statement:.
this year (2010) 43.372 persons attended the memorial, 100 persons took of the symbols.. the 2009 attendance figure was 51.578.. this means that 8.206 went missing in one single year, a plunge of 16%.. i get the impression that the partakes figure is going up as they now avoid the term "annointed".. .
Hadit - In other words the number partaking indicates that there are MORE and MORE people who believe they are anointed when there should be less. Thus some of those who partake are not really anointed they are just delusional.
That is so funny, they are admiting that their followers are delusional.
every time i see jw's in service, they are not carrying bookbags but rather plastic holders and small fold over purses to hold them.. what ever happened to the big ol' bookbag in service?.
asilentone- you are so right, those big bags are a status symbol. When I was first diped, and started to piosneer, I was about to order myself one of those big bags, because I was really into reasearch. My father and another elder both told me not to because they were for elders.
I know a few elders who would fill their bag so full of papers, mags, books, etc that they could not find anything in them. But boy did they look so theocratic. Then there were the elders that had this huge bag, with a WT,KM, Bible, and a Flock book. Oh yea a pen and a highlighter. They didn't look as "important" but they hadwhat they needed which was the point of having a bag to begin with, but the overkill on those large bags is silly.
