My little sister

my little sister is 14 years younger than me.

she was always special to me, i took care of her, when my mother was working, i carried her around, i comforted her.

we are very similar in our interests for music and literature.. she is in secondary school, an unbaptised publisher.. since i study in the us, we only see each other about once a year.

Following Steve Hassan's methods may help improve your relationships with your JW family.

Your best response would be to ask simple questions, like why the sudden change of heart and that you love her unconditionally like how Jesus Christ taught Christians to love. If you still have the letter that your sister wrote to you, can you copy it and send it to her. You could even ask her where in the Bible did Jesus Chirst shun or not associate with non-jews.

i just thought of something: considering that from 2013 onwards, it seems, there won't be a watchtower library cd, and everything will be online, and therefore every trace of "old light" can be deleted with the push of a button.... .

is there a way to download a copy of the entire jw.org webstite, and keep a "certified copy" somewhere, like archive.org?.

perhaps this can be done monthly or every quarter or something.... .

Hi ILoveTTATT, How would that be a problem? You could refer to the old WTBTS propaganda on jw.org and verify that it hadn't changed by doing the comparison through the repository. The only tactics that the WTBTS could counter with would be to delete its propaganda periodically on jw.org (which is essentially what they do now with "New Light"), DF or DA JWs who visit the repository, or some other lame action.

I think I know of a way to get around copyright infringement litigation and prevent the WTBTS from re-writing their propaganda. A reputable and popular website like JWfacts, would need to act as a repository of information where people would upload .pdf files and ask for a comparison with a file(s) in the repository. If there were any differences between the files, the page(s) with the differences would be displayed and the different text from the repository file would be highlighted.

The technology to search for differences in Word documents already exists with Word, so it should be relatively easy to write a program to compare .pdf files for differences.

After copy-rights expired, the repository would allow downloading of available files.

What's your opinion of this idea?

I wonder if the Russian or Chinese governments would force a website in their country to bend to the WTBTS's legal department? Who knows maybe the Russian Orthodox Church would like to host a website in Russia that would contain up-to-date WTBTS propaganda.

Why do i feel guilty?

last night i had a few drinks and messaged one of my old friends.

i havent seen or spoken to him in a few years because when i became a witness i could not condone or be a part of his worldly behavior...so last night i came clean and i told him why ive basically shunned him the last few years and he said it made sense (he used to be a witness a long time ago).

he said he was pissed for a while but he got over it and all that....i apologised and expressed my own doubts and my situation and he said he understood.

Hi DS211, It sounds like you have a few WTBTS induced phobias in your mind. You have done nothing wrong. It is normal to question leaders. I even feel it is healthy, otherwise leaders may lead followers over cliffs like lemmings.

Why do you have to tell your wife that you expressed doubts to your friend? If she asks, just tell her you had a nice conversation with him about non-religious matters. Since I consider the WTBTS leaders like con-men and the WTBTS as a dangerous cult, I do not consider talking about the WTBTS as being religious.

I like the idea, but the owner of the website would need deeper pockets than most people have to fight legal challanges by the WTBTS of copyright infringement. Besides most "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) JWs wouldn't believe that any person or organization is as justworthy as the WTBTS, so whatever is on jw.org must be the "Truth".

Talk about depressed

my wife is preparing to spend hundreds on a lap top to take into the field service.

i carefully mentioned that the wts has gone from condemning the web to now using it.. her reply" no they never condemned it just said to people to be careful in using it".

my memories of convention speakers must be different and" this is the way things are now; its all downloaded from the web".. with that as a given then why isnt the wts issuing computers to any one who wants one?

If the WTBTS wants to reduce printing costs and for JWs to use tablets/computers during FS, how will the WTBTS keep track of propaganda placements? I wonder if Bethel did a 360-deg assessment of risk mitigation about JWs using tablets/computers to access the internet more? Did they anticipate that some "Spiritually Weak" (still thinking) JWs will leave or that more teenage JWs will leave? Or, was it just a cost vs benefit analysis of less paper and ink to purchase?

I sometimes fantasize that the WTBTS secretly wants JWs to awaken so that the WTBTS can unload more real estate.

TTATT family blow out

for those of you who have a minute to read this, here is a report from my family trip.. i was in florida for the holidays visiting my older sister and family, along with my parents which were also visiting.. although i've had conversations with my mother about the organization, my sister and her family had no idea of my position in regards to the (un)truth - perhaps because we live far away from each other.

i knew the day was coming.... on my second day there, the whole family was sitting around bs-ing about different stuff, and as usual my mother starts with the "world is getting worse by the day" conversation, followed by approving nods and smart remarks from the rest of the family.

i then politely told them that this was not true, that in fact the world has never been better.

Congradulations redvip2000 on sticking with your decision not to discuss beliefs with your JW family after your intial comments. That must have been very tough for you. Is there anything that you can give to your nephew to help him to stay unbaptized without causing you any adverse reprecussions? Send him an anonymous email like, "If you want to talk about your feelings without being judged, visit www.jehovahs-witness.net like I did."

Hi redvip2000, I'm glad that your family decided not to shun you for now.

You might have planted more seeds with them if you asked them more questions like: "Did you ask the elders whether the organization is inspired? or What did you learn from your research about ______ and did you just use WTBTS resources like Cubans only use their approved resources?"
