I know that you 'feel' that we don't know YET, but I can assure you that we have ascertained that no one has died for mankind. We just die, including this Jesus guy.

I didn't have an innate belief in satan claus. I learned about that dude through friends, pop culture, media etc etc. Same thing with god.
Insufficient evidence for god as far as I'm concerned. Leaving (or kicked out - take your pick) the witnesses didn't have anything to do with my deconversion however.
we spend much time trying to understand ourselves and other.
we study human behavior, psychological factors, why god created us.
bible prophecies, etc etc.

My internet 2 cents.
I think it is likely that a person by the name of Jesus did exist in history. However, I don't believe the story in the bible about that particular Jesus is based on facts. Especially the supernatural events attributed to him - walking on water, water into wine. etc, - highly, highly doubtful. Did he spit though? Yeah, most likely. Everyone spits now and then.

the message i had when i went to your door was essentially "hello, what ever your current belief is... is wrong.
The sad thing I realized that I was arrogant. Arrogant to believe that I had the right religion and they had the wrong one. Therefore arguing was a moot point. I was there to just rub it in their face - nicely of course - and convert them. Didn't matter if they wanted to argue or convince me, I was so thoroughly blinded by my arrogance that it just didn't matter. I thank the bevy of gods out there that I never was successful in converting a single individual.
Also, I'm pretty sure from the society's standpoint that it was good not to indulge in critical debate/argument. The less we employed critical thinking and arguing intelligently, the more likely we would continue in our arrogant bliss in having the right religion.

That's my take of 1975. I remember vividly how the majority of the congregation I was a attending reacted to 1975. In 1974, there were a lot of holidays to Hawaii, new cars, quitting jobs etc.
The semantic manipulation and revisionist history is astounding.
