being a jehovah's witness at any time and at any level is a major head f*ck.

the reason is that it obscures what is important and causes you to focus on what doesn't matter.. i've moved on from my jw experience.

it's a shame that i found myself a born in, taught to focus on things that don't matter.

I loved the way you explained it all. As a fresh ex-jw I do feel the urge for revenge and know in time it will leave me, your post helped.

You know what else doesn't matter? Any family who doesn't understand or appreciate that being a family is more important then being a cult. Even if they are duped, it doesn't matter. Don't waste your time on the duped. If its meant to be, they will come to you. If it doesn't, surround yourself with people who love you for who you are.

I whole heartedly agree with that, as long as we are talking about adults, parents with kids (kids that are stuck in the borg) will do anything to help their little ones, as they are so vulnerable.

i was with a group of my co-workers.

we work with people who have addictions.

one woman in our huddle was going off about how everyone in the room as tried weed.

Hi!! New Here and need to express some feelings

i'm so glad i happened to stumble across this website cause i really need to express what i've been holding inside for quite some time.

i'm 27 and was born and raised in the "truth".

i'm married and my husband was also raised as a jw, been married for almost 7 years and have two kids who have just started kindergarten and preschool.

I had massive guilt trips with this religion.

I've read the books people have told you about and they have helped me so much.

I also have done a lot of deep research on this religion and PROVED to myself that it's one BIG lie and such a dangerous cult.

Take your time to prove it to yourself.

We are all here to help each other, it's great to have you onboard :)

...and if it all possible watch the video from 1985 entitled, "Witnesses of Jehovah". It maybe be on youtube in parts, and it's an hour long, but worth every minute!!!!! I was so sick after watching it that I refer to that moment as a real turning point for me....I had that "punched gut" feeling after watching it. My late mother watched it as well.

so what silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?.

back in my early 20's, i had a pair of comfy old jeans that started to tear in about 3 places on the leg.

it was the fashion at the time so not only did they feel great to wear, they also looked 'in', not that i cared for that, but it was a bonus .

I went to my friends place that night to hang out.
When I walked in his mother started yelling at me!
"How can you wear those jeans, that is very worldy!"
"Do you think that christians should wear such things?"
"I don't like you wearing those jeans in my house!"
I started thinking, 'oh shut up you whinge bag, they're just jeans' ... but of course I didn't say that, I simply said: "I'm only wear them at home and here in your house (of course I wore them everywhere) so don't worry no worldy person we see me wearing them" ... it didn't work, she was still upset that I wore such 'worldy' things.
Then who happens to walk in? My bible study conductor, geeze... she started again, he, agreed with her but was not that forceful about it.
Well she wasn't too happy that she didn't win that argument, so she started on her son (my friend) about the music he listens to. My Bible study conductor (also my friends BSC) goes into my friends room without my friends knowledge and he rummaged through his CD collection. Ah-ha! Pay dirt, he found an Aerosmith CD. The BSC came out with the CD while my friends mother was still blasting both of us (for jeans - bad music). He said what is this? (holding up the Aerosmith CD) My friend who has lost the plot by now (his mother was such a screamer and whinge, he would go through this crap almost daily with her) He grabbed the CD off the BSC's hands and snapped it into pieces with his bare hands, CD case and CD! My friend then stormed out, man it was always something at his house. I really felt for him.

Being told off for not wearing a jacket while handling the mics, mind you not by an elder but by a cow of a sister.
I never took her advice and continued doing my dorky privilege 'jacket-less'

One night i brought the movie Aliens over to watch at my best friends house, my friends father was an elder, when he walked in and saw that movie he was shocked, told us off (looked demonic he said) and stormed out, we continued to watch it and enjoyed it to the end.

So spill you guts, lets all have a laugh (or cry) over stupid/silly counsel from our past.

i'm a new member here but i have read this forum from about 6 months ago.. i was born in jw, all my family is jw.. one day i decide to make a research about the prophecies because i thought that would help me strengthen my faith.

i always like the prophecies.

i've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.

i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.

you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

Email I sent to mom after huge fight today

well my mom and i got into a pretty bad argument today over the phone.

it basically came down to the fact that she couldn't handle what i was saying about the organization, etc and all she could come back to me was that i "hated her?

I just loved the way you worded that email. As I was reading, I too was getting angry and feeling your anger.

I too lost years off my life (30 years wasted) in this stupid cult!!!

I know I would of been a happy more balanced person if I never was dragged into this shitty religion, brainwashed to believe that God appointed a bunch of a$$holes in NY as his mouth piece on earth! Get stuffed to the lot of them, I don't believe in hell but I really wish there is one so those so called 'anointed' wankers can burn there for ever!!!! ... sorry getting all angry again, must calm down . . . . .

as i see it, there are three looming threats that all have the potential - individually or combined - to bring the wbts to its knees, at least in the united states, anyway.. 1. youth retention.

the young people aren't buying it.

the watchtower will argue that faithless young people are giving in to demonic persuasion and leaving the truth.
