Stupid people are afraid of metal. Give them a nice, simple R&B or country song or their brains will explode. People with low IQs invariably call metal "noise", because their malfunctioning brains can't operate fast enough to differentiate among the instruments or between the notes. Don't misunderstand; I agree there is some low-brow, crap metal out there. But when you play something truly profound for a flaming idiot and all they come back with is "It sounds like Satanic noise", you're dealing with a certifiable moron.

For a group that loves truth so much

JWs despise truth. They love The Truth tm . The honest, provable, Biblical, scientific, historical truth will land you in the back room being interrogated by men who should be in Styrofoam helmets.

Do the Harold Campings of the world make witnesses question their own beliefs?

now that harold camping has been proven wrong again, er, the rapture is taking place at another date because he is an imperfect man, one question that comes to my mind is whether this kind of fiascos ever make active jehovah's witness connect the dots and realize they have been deceived as well.. also, i wonder if active witnesses ever get to think that if unbelievers were right about not believing camping, maybe they are also right about something else?

perhaps relying on reason is not that misguided after all?.

i would love to see your opinions on this.. .

WBTS will probably sue Camping on the basis of copyright infringement. Let's face it, while they didn't invent it, JWs have a long-established and extensive history of establishing bogus years. When 2nd Adventists had quit setting dates, JWs kept the tradition alive. While many end-time cults came and went, JWs hung in for the long run. For this upstart, Camping, to come along and flood the market with his cheap knock-off, date-setting, "everybody's going to die but us" religion is blatantly an attempt to horn in the JW success.

Does anyone know what happens to full-time JW's(DO's, CO's, Missionaries, Special pioneers, etc) when they reach old age?

i am just wondering since these people never work a secular job.

is there some sort of an arrangement from the society to care for them?

presuming they don't even have children of their own to look after them when they are old..

a super-zealous elder once told me in a very grave tone, "you know, mr. falcon, when someone becomes an apostate and leaves god's organization, they usually do very well physically and materially.

" hence the reason he claims that they feel "vindicated".

now i do also remember hearing such statements in the past from other witnesses.

You can tell how stupid people are by their inability to recognize a double entendre. When you get a visiting speaker with a name like "Hugh Jorgan", "Harry Bush", "Peter Cummings", etc. and only about 5% of the people in the room are stifling a laugh, that means 95% of the people are flaming retards. If you notice, they're looking around in confusion.

Shunning is a fundamental necessity for cults. It's part of the information control. Brand outsiders as "of the Devil", brand outside information as "of the Devil", brand ex-members as "demonic", brand every other religion as "demonic".

Every major issue of the Society for the last several years has been about controlling information. The Internet has been demonized, higher education has been demonized, promotion of the "faithful and discreet slave" has been pounded relentlessly. Many of the long-standing rules - reading "apostate" materials, talking to ex-members, accepting religious literature, reading the Bible without Watchtower input, examining the history of the Society, researching correct translation of Koine and Hebrew verses, etc. - are all about information control.

Any cult that is going to flourish needs to keep its members ignorant and defensive. Once non-members of the cult are perceived as "the enemy", the cult members herd themselves. 7M people around the world can't be controlled by some old geezers in NY. So, you give special titles to some of the more hard-core cult members who are good and brainwashed -e.g. "elder", "circuit overseer" - and tell the peons those guys are hand-picked by God.

Delegating authority doesn't reduce the centralized power, but multiplies it and spreads it wider. The elders are the eyes and fists of the Governing Body, but are perceived as representatives of God. Without their "God" mask, these construction workers in polyester suits wouldn't get any respect at all.

this man seems to get to the nub of most problems, and as a jewish man, i think he could be a way to a mainstream audience, it seems to me that despite all our petty differences we are all preaching to the converted, the majority of us hate the jw philosophy, how can we warn people of the terrible damage this cult can do to the individual and the community!.

Does anyone think Jehovah would make a good friend?

i remember reading the my book of bible stories when i was younger and it constantly referenced to abraham being jehovah's friend.

if jehovah made himself into a real being for a day, but he still had his almighty powers, what kinda friend do you think he would be?

i honestly think that he would suck as a friend, especially when he didnt get things his way..

I know this thread is intended as atheist bait, but I'll bite. The only one identified as "Jehovah's friend" in the Bible is Abraham and God did him pretty good. It seem the rest of humanity, Jehovah tolerated at best. What you don't want to be is Jehovah's enemy; that's when things go horribly bad for you.

I walked out of an Elder's Meeting

well here goes... i apologize in advance if this turns into a long and disjointed rant, but i just have to begin typing in order to keep from exploding.

i realize that what im about to say could seriously jeopardize my anonymity, but i think ive reached the point that i just dont care.

i want this to be over.. let me explain what caused me to rip up a letter and get up and walk out in the middle of an elders meeting two weekends ago.. our boe has been embroiled in a nasty fight for the past 2 years over a certain brothers business dealings.

My first JC, I had been falsely accused of something. Of course, I never found out by whom. I didn't even know what a judicial committee was or what was going on. Suddenly, 3 arrogant, stupid old men were yelling at me and demanding answers to questions out of left field. When I answered them, they'd tell me how they knew I was lying because Holy Spirit was bearing witness to them. I told them I didn't know what spirit they had, but it wasn't holy.

That incident is actually how I found out about the "Flock" book, when one of them started waving it in my face, bragging about how much authority they had that I didn't even know about, because it was in their secret book. I told them they were nuts and had been misinformed about me, and refused to talk to them anymore. Then, I want home and found the Flock book online and downloaded it.

Them invoking the Holy Spirit for both their appointment and supposed insight were my first hints that elders are nothing but old douchebags who really want people to believe they're more than they are. On that day, I started realizing nothing in the organization was run by God. It also struck me as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit for them to claim it was causing them to act the way they did. I'd hate to be in their shoes when Jesus asks them about that incident (and doubtless many others like it and worse).

JWs are their own worst enemies. No "apostate army" could ever wreak as much havoc on the congregations as the losers who get appointed into positions of authority. The rank and file are bad enough with their complete cluelessness; add liberal amounts of arrogance and unchecked authority to get an elder.

i working in an old peoples home and i can understand that after a long life they die, but not in this horrible way of not knowing their family lost somewhere in their mind.. worse than that is the thought of children dying it angers me extremely that a god of love would allow this on the basis of his own ego!!!.

Contrary to popular church belief, God's not in charge of the world. He didn't save the apostles and he's not going to save anybody else. People who believe in faith healing, angels protecting pioneers, etc. are deluded. God doesn't even grant what we ask for in prayers, so don't bother. Prayer is a form of worship, not a grocery list; remember that. Don't ask God to find you a job that works with your meeting nights. Don't expect miracles just because you're a good person or do what you think you're supposed to do. There is no reward in this life. This life sucks and it's not fair; that's the whole point: Without God running things, this is what we get.

Churches have a couple of major things wrong that screw up everybody's understanding:

We are created in God's image.
Everything is God's will.

First of all, Adam and Eve were created. We were born - born of imperfection, even. We are not hand-made by God and that's why some people are born with horrible defects, or with diseases.

Nothing here is God's will. It's all random and the odds are against us. God doesn't make us be born and he doesn't make us die. He doesn't make us better when we're ill and he doesn't test us with problems. He's completely hands-off. This isn't ancient Israel and there are no apostles who will be granted whatever they ask for in Jesus' name.
