No resurrection for animals. I wonder why do the Elephants have some understanding of death? Example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3818833.stm

Some observations from the KM Elder School I wanted to share with you.
by miseryloveselders inmy school was a couple weeks back, and it was interesting to a degree.
to be honest with you, it reminded me of a police crime scene investigation with yellow tape.
what i mean is, in one respect it was business as usual.

Yep, actually someone else on page 2 of this thread already mentioned it. Just noticed it now. My father, who is an elder for many years, is even lost for words on this new strong stand on education.

I attended the servant school a few weeks ago, and they had self evaluation questions at the end of most of the parts. Similar to the self evaluation questions you see in the magazines. In the part on Education, the speaker asked this question near the end of his part:
"Am I secretly hoping to prove wrong the Faithful and Discreet slave?"
I thought that was particularly pointed, and showed the mindset they have. We told you what to do, are you trying to prove us wrong?

Believingxjw do you believe in a global flood?
I ask because if you do then speciation had to have happen. Noah could not have fit all species of animals alive today in the ark.
I consider snakes and lizards as totally different types of animals (species, kind or whatever word you want to use), but I am not sure how you will interpret "kind" in the bible. But there is alot of evidence for the evolution of lizards into snakes. Take a look at the video below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vgPujX2RYw
here is some info on a skink with tiny (seemingly useless) legs, http://www.arkive.org/kasners-dwarf-burrowing-skink/scelotes-kasneri/
That said we can all have our own opinion on these things. I personally cannot justify with any evidence that evolution just stops changing an animal at some point. I see animals like the mud skipper and you have a fish living on land. I look at Skinks and I see a lizard with useless tiny legs that then moves about like a snake. I see the Hoatzin bird that in its youth has front claws that is uses to climb (later looses when it gains wings, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKwwdcfc4Ck). My point is that seemingly identifiable traits that we could use to group creatures like fish = living in water, is not a given. There is some fluidity to all the animals forms/traits we see today. I then go and look at the fact that alot of species just died out. In fact they estimate that 99% of species that every lived are extinct. Why would a God create thousands of species to eventually go extinct?

Did born-in's have the capacity to "test their faith"?
by sabastious in2 corinthians 13: 5a - 5 examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.. this verse just comes at me like a locomotive.. to examine something is to truly use my mental capacities and to look at something objectively.. how do i accomplish this, even now?.
i was raised in an organization that controlled my information and used fear of rejection as well as my need for approval to "inculcate" the "truth" into me.. by that right, i (and all born-ins) do not have the ability to examine our faith (as a jw).. there will always be an artificial pull either for or against the society (whether we are aware of it or not).. free will has been comprimised; therefore our "faith to our creator" has been tainted and cannot be judged as worthy or unworthy.. of course many of us have regained our ability to discern and look at things objectively.. but i believe that we will never be able to truly look at the watchtower organization without a slant.. not to say the conclusions we come to regards to the organization are not valid (because they are and have been validated).
my point is that the organization has no right to judge and ostracize any born-in for leaving and even for speaking out.. they broke us, and now they are demonizing us for the things we did in that broken state.

I am a born-in too, 3rd generation, and agree you cannot test your faith. To truly be able to test your faith you would need to be able to read all sides of the issues and then make a decision on what you think is right. We all know this level openness does not exist in the org, my parents would never let me read anything that is contrary to the orgs thinking. I cannot really speak for other religions since I only know the JW one, but I have always been under the impression that most other religions are more open in this way.

Well without giving too much details, my wife does sort of know I have "some" doubts. We actually had a somewhat open discussion about it at one time, but we have never talked about it again since then. I think at this point she thinks these doubts are nothing more then any believer gets from time to time. Hopefully that discussion we had does not come back to bite me.

Great suggestions!
I have thought about the moving to another congregation route, but I guess either way they are going to want to meet with me at some point. Playing the sick card is very good idea too (I have not thought of that).
Unfortunately, all my ties are in the org. All my family (Some are COs, Elders, and Pioneers) abd friends are in the org. In addition, so is my wife. My family would be described by many here as hardcore JWs. Basically I have no shot at fading out easy, so I need to weigh this greatly.

Wow and this is what scares me from coming out of the closet with my beliefs. Wish you well.
