Quendi would be right about this. Although the GB (and the writers) would know about this history they deliberately choose to withhold it from their publications and have takne measures to distance themselves from Russel.

Not just false teaching--but worse: plagiarized false teaching from the GB
by Terry inas october 22, 1844 slowly faded into october 23 a great weeping swept the countryside as 50,000 true believers in the accuracy of william miller's.
prediction (of christ's return to earth) faced the stark reality of total soul-crushingly great disappointment.. .
how had they come to this bizarre conclusion and what would they now face by way of recrimination and disconfirmation?.

Did you feel pushed into pioneering?
by Xanthippe inso i have been replying to letters from a jw friend who suddenly started writing to me after i've been out for nearly 25 years.. i have mentioned things like the poverty that pioneering causes from my own experience, worrying about having enough money to buy food.. i also said that the scrimping would have been worth it if we had been saving to buy a home or go on lovely holidays.. instead we ended up with nothing materially and we were living in a tiny rented flat when we left.. when i think of all the places i wanted to visit with my husband but couldn't because we were pioneering and had no money and now it is too late because my husband has died at the age of 54. we did get to visit some beautiful places but we ran out of time.. what i was trying to say to her was - life's too short.
stop waiting for the new system, get on with your life.
stop exhausting yourself in that religion.

I am sorry to hear of your husband's death at a relatively young age and I am glad that you did end up getting some opportunities to travel. I think you're trying to look at your past with some objectivity. It was your choice even though you did feel pressured into it. Try to keep a focus on the good things that you experienced from your pioneering. It might include learning to live on less, being able to spend much more time with your husband than you would otherwise have had the opportunity to do etc. I remember spending my final school holidays going out into service as often as I could. I was very positive to begin with and thought it would help me grow spiritually and spending time with the other pioneers whom I believed were highly motivated. Neither of those things happened. I found it depressing and new I couldn't keep up any enthuisiam for it. What surprised me the most was the lack of 'sisterhood' amongst the female pioneers. They avoided working with each other and had formed their own very small groups, there was little support between them and I found it very negative. I didn't want to do it and was obviously a disappointment to my 'elder' father but at lease my younger sisters felt they had a choice. As it is, most of us don't make the best choices when we look back on it later in life.

That was another great read Terry. As a witness I used to marvel at the fact that the WTBTS were able to interpret so much detail from the scriptures and was completely unaware that they were simply tweaking their own understandings from other religions, such as the adventists.
This comment from the large conference held that you mention above is so applicable
"The [sanctuary] doctrine is, to me, the most colossal, psychological, face-saving phenomenon in religious history. [...] We personally do not believe that there is even a suspicion of a verse in Scripture to sustain such a peculiar position, and we further believe that any effort to establish it is stale, flat, and unprofitable. [...] [It is] unimportant and almost naïve. "

Their idea comes from Revelation 17:17
"For God put [it] into their hearts to carry out his thought, even to carry out [their] one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished"
ctrwtf - their teaching is that the UN will only destroy false religion, not their own religion. Their religion will be attacked later. Here are some quotes that were provided by Blondie
*** re chap.35p.255 par.13***
They have “one thought” in that they want to preserve their national sovereignty rather than accept God’s Kingdom. This was their purpose in subscribing to the League of Nations and the United Nations organization in the first place—to preserve world peace and thus safeguard their own existence. Such an attitude ensures that the horns will oppose the Lamb,
*** re chap.35 pp.257-258 par.20***
They will feel that it is in their nationalistic interests to turn upon the great harlot. They may come to view the continued existence of organized religion within their boundaries as a threat to their sovereignty.
*** w09 3/15 p.18 par.14***
We understand that some time after false religion has been destroyed, there will be an attack on Jehovah’s servants, who have been proclaiming his judgment messages. (Ezek. 38:14-16)
*** w94 3/1 p.20 par.11***
As foretold at Revelation 17:12-17, the time will come when Jehovah starts his strange act by putting it into the hearts of “the ten horns”—militarized members of the United Nations—“to carry out his thought” of devastating the world empire of false religion. How will this come about? There are numerous ways that “the ten horns” of Revelation chapter 17 may, in the words of verse 16, come to “hate the harlot and . . . completely burn her with fire.” True, nuclear arms have proliferated and are still proliferating in many danger spots on earth. But we must wait and see how Jehovah will put it into the hearts of political rulers to execute his vengeance

The New Diary of Winston Smith
by WinstonSmith inwe had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

I can't believe that they have done this. They keep saying that they are no part of the world. Youtube makes it's money out of advertising and the JW video's have plenty of that plastered either on/before the video or on the same page. It would be like having the Watchtower printed in a commercial magazine or newspaper.
There are two other JW org Youtube sites, in two other languages. One of them has a lot more videos posted.
