Even though the organization is a secret society the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fit together thanks to people like you and others who put on their thinking caps.

CANDACE CONTI & THE NEW CONTRIBUTION DEMAND
by The Searcher inwhen the org lost the candace conti case, the court ordered (pending the appeal) that the org would have to deposit several million$ as security.
the puzzling thing is, the org got a bond company to put up the millions, thereby incurring heavy interest charges.
i've always wondered, 'why?????????'.

When the whole lot fails they won't be pointing at themselves, they'll be saying it is the fault of the r & f who didn't honor their pledges.
Without a question, the new arrangement of pledges will give them more money than they would have had otherwise, even if the brothers don't give the amount they pledged. (I would say donate but once you/ve pledged money in reality it could no longer be considered a donation). Even if they were to get the fully pledged money they could still play the games they do when trying to get more money from brothers at assemblies.

Ask them if they have had a change of heart, if so, ask them why. If you get a straight and logical answer then consider your position. They need to be upfront with you so you can work out wha is best.

If their increase is only 2% then the extra 2,104 congregations a year would be about right. As they normally share the halls, even if only 2 congregations were sharing the one hall then this would mean an extra 1,052 halls would be needed in a year.
It seems obvious that with 13,000 halls being planned or under construction the WTBTS is more interested in being a building business.

There is no biblical basis, just as there is no biblical basis for passing the bread and wine.
Disfellowshiped ones are not to be considered as part of the congregation. This would be reasonable if it just ended there (and biblical). However, the d'fd one can participate with the rest of the congregation in various forms of worship, such as singing and praying and as brought up in this case, also in participating in their form of memorial (unless you're sitting at the end of an isle).

I doubt many Pillipino's have insurance, they are very poor people and survive on little.
Over the years Government support structures for the needy and those involved in disasters has changed. Charities can apply to the Government for funds and need to support their claim/s. Charities that go on large donation campaigns will also provide funds to other Charities, again they would need to demonstrate that the money will be used beneficially.
I never realized until a couple of months ago that the WTBTS has recieved money from Charities, there is no reason to think that they have not also applied and recieved funding from Governments. With all the manpower that they can provide as well as organizing and supervising they would be in a very good position to demonstrate that they would make good use of the money. They do not provide assistance for just JWs, they do provide a little to the general public and this may be to demonstrate that they are helping anyone and therefore qualify for funding. It would be very interesting to see what they say in their applications and whether they are honest in stating that most of the money provided would be for the benefit of JWs.
Now, whenever I read the self promotional reports from the WTBTS as to the goods and services they have provided they never state how much funding they have recieved by other Charities or from the Government, so it is just assumed that it is all supplied by the WTBTS.
Just look at the report above by Almond. There is plenty of building material being provided by the WTBTS but not one mention as to where the funding came from for the materials.

Change to Contributions for World Wide Work..Why Not ??
by Poztate ina letter is soon to be read out at all congregations changing the rbc box from a voluntary thing to a mandated contribution sent in each month based on pledges.
i am sure the thrill of this will soon wear off as congregations are hounded if they fall short of pledges.
i am sure it will be a "local needs" talk at least every second month.. however if it only partially works i can see this happening in another year or so.. brothers (tear comes to his eye) the www is every bit as important as the kingdom hall building funds.

Maybe something like that. They would likely say that they were very grateful for the pledges but the contributions to their other needs have been falling short and could the brothers consider the great need and contribute more.

Old Goat, sorry to hear about your eye sight, thanks for posting your memories.
I agree with you Terry about Russel. He does come accross as a gentle and sincere person. However, when you look at the treatment of his wife everything becomes clearer as to his true personality, the same with the court cases he was involved with as well as his financial structures.
